Chapter 15- Talk With Violet (Part 1)

"What is happening outside?" Alex asked as he walked around the table. The general excused his subordinates as he focused on the group that walked around him. He already knew they were agents who worked for the agency, and so they were extremely important individuals, perhaps even more important than him.

"Sigh, it's honestly not looking good." The man said as he rubbed his temples. "Everything is going wrong all at the same time. We aren't able to kill any of these Undead fast enough to gain any control over any area. Our bullets don't work effectively on them."

"I see…"

"We are completely trapped here, and we can't leave this city or evacuate anyone. Even if we could evacuate the city, there is no place to go. Every other city has been attacked already." He said. 'I wonder if this is the divine punishment we brought upon ourselves for being rotten from the core.'

"Killing them with bullets won't work."

As the cold silence settled on the entire tent, Rein spoke as he stared at Victor. "Your soldiers won't have a chance that way."

"And who are you?" Victor asked.

"It's not necessary to know who I am," Rein replied. "Have any of your soldiers told you about the system?" He asked.

"The system?" Victor frowned. "Wait, are you talking about the weird things some of my men have been seeing since earlier?"

"Yeah, floating boxes with words in them."

"How did you… Wait, aren't those just hallucinations?"

"They're very much not. That is your ticket to surviving. That system allows you to gain power by killing those Undead." Rein said as he walked around the table.

"... What kind of dark magic is this?" The man asked. "Are you certain of what you're saying?"

"Of course. Even these two could confirm it." Rein said as he pointed at Violet and Alex.

"Yes, I have also been able to gain it when I killed one of the Undead. I felt like my body became stronger when I did."

"But, why did you get such a thing? Where does it come from?" Victor asked.

"Well, nobody knows," Rein replied. "These soldiers, call them back. As for the rest, you should make them aim for the head and only the head. I'm sure more and more of them will get that power." Rein explained.

"..." Victor looked at him, as if trying to read him, but all he could see were cold eyes. "I never thought an Agent would end up helping the military. I thought you lot only cared about your personal interests."

This wasn't the first time Victor had to deal with agents. He knew how cruel and emotionless they were. They were cold-blooded murderers, and he could not arrest or stop them as they were under the flag of the strongest organization in the world. They had enough influence to travel to any country in the world, do whatever they want, and leave without facing any consequences.

"And who said it isn't in my personal interest to help you?" Rein asked as he smiled and then turned to look at Violet. "Feel free to tell your superiors about this information. I'm sure it will help you a lot."

Then, he walked out of the tent, leaving the confused group behind.

After a second of thinking, Victor shook his head and picked up the phone. "Call those four back and send an order to all troops. Aim for the head when shooting, and if you receive a weird hologramic message when you kill one of these creatures, report back to me."

"What are you planning to do now?" Victor asked as he looked at Alex and Violet.

"We still aren't sure. But we definitely won't be sitting around. We will try to help and clear the city." Alex said.

"..."

"Your help is very much appreciated. We need every hand we could get."

"We won't be moving immediately, so we will tell you once we are about to leave," Alex said.

After that, the two walked out of the tent, chased by the confused Teo.

"You should stay here, Violet. It's really dangerous outside." Alex said.

"No, I'm not planning to idle around. As Rein said, this system is the key to facing these monsters. I want to get stronger as fast as possible."

'To help Rein. I need to get much stronger.' Violet thought to herself. Her entire career, she has only been able to help Rein through the communication device, giving him assistance in his missions.

However, Violet always dreamt of being his partner in missions physically, although it wasn't her area of expertise. Now that the world was changing, she could finally do exactly that.

Seeing the determined look on her face, Alex was completely speechless.

"No, you will die. You don't get it." He said.

"I would rather die than do nothing. I don't want to be useless." She replied as she turned around to leave. "I will take care of myself, thanks for your concern."

"Violet…"

Seeing his friend walk away, Alex felt completely lost. Then, he saw her approach Rein, and his face darkened. He wasn't stupid; he knew why Violet wanted to fight so badly. This was for him, of all people.

'Curse you… Curse you, bastard.' He clenched his teeth. His eyes flared with a mysterious, dangerous light before he looked away.

'We will see. We will definitely see, you fucking bastard.'

"Those soldiers. Most of them will die." Rein said as he started walking with Violet. "They won't last long, even if they get the system."

"Why do you think so?"

"The Undead aren't the biggest problem; it's the mutated animals. They're far more dangerous, and they aren't easy to kill. They also grow way faster than the Undead. They will definitely cause a lot of damage to the army." He said.

"...So what should we do?" Violet asked. She could tell Rein was planning something, so she wanted to know.

"For now, you should focus on hunting monsters and getting as strong as you can. I have a feeling things won't be simple in the next few days."

"What do you mean, Rein?"

"I still don't know. For now, I want you to show me your system. I need to know what you're working with." He said.

"Mhm, I only killed a few Undead, so it didn't increase by much. Let's go back to the tent, I will show you."

After the two walked back to her tent, Rein sat down and crossed his arms as Violet sat facing him.

"Ok, first of all, did you get any Runes from killing these Undead?"

"Runes? Oh, you mean these rocks?" She said as if she realized what he meant and then pulled two from her pocket. "I didn't know what they did, and I didn't want to do anything before talking to you."

"Hmm, let me see," Rein said as he grabbed the stones. 'One Skill Rune and one Artefact Rune. Not bad.' He mused.

"Yeah, these things give you either supernatural abilities like this stone. These supernatural abilities are called skills, and they're completely tied to you."

"Oh, did you get ones like this, too?"

"Yeah."

"What did you get?"

"The main ability I got is…" Rein said as he suddenly threw the rocks in the air. As they started falling down, they suddenly stopped mid-air above his hand, floating magically. "Gravity Manipulation. I can manipulate the gravity of objects or myself freely."

"Oh my god! That is amazing, Rein!" Violet's eyes shone with a bright light as she watched the floating rocks. "That sounds really strong."
