Nami rubbed her chin, carefully recalling the various methods Reno used to recruit the women.
She was enticed.
Makino was intimidated.
Kaya was repaying a favor.
Her sister Nojiko was due to her own instigation.
Nami decisively ruled out enticement.

"Can you tell us why?!!!" Makino, considering herself the older sister, gently asked with a smile, voicing the women's confusion.

Carmen glanced at Reno, a bold smile appearing on her face, and said unreservedly, "Because he is strong."
"Only the strong are worthy of my allegiance."
To defeat Sanji and become the best chef in the East Blue,
Carmen traveled all over the East Blue, with no fixed abode, searching for Sanji for ten years.
