Chapter 238 - Chapter 238: The Petricite Trap

"What exactly happened?"

Yuumi's eyes were wet with tears. She truly had not figured out what was happening right now.

Caleb slowly sighed. He had not expected these people's killing intent toward him to still be this strong.

He had thought about things too simply.

One wrong step led to every step after it being wrong. This time, Caleb had made a mistake by choosing to return through Yuumi's portal.

But the other side had not made a mistake. After confirming that Jayce and Viktor had returned safely, and after the two Mecha suits had arrived as well, they had quickly set up a petricite prison here.

This was a trap. Even someone as strong as Kai'Sa could only feel the magic in her body being constantly drained away.

Demigods were more or less connected to certain laws between heaven and earth, but before this almost ocean-like amount of petricite, Kai'Sa's attacks could neither take effect nor be sustained.

Even when Caleb used various powerful abilities and nearly emptied his mana bar, he had never once experienced a situation where his body could not absorb magic.

Inside the petricite, Caleb could finally understand why Noxus had attacked Demacia for so long yet still failed to conquer it.

What kind of existence was the Petricite Grove, exactly? It could actually let the Demacians build city walls from it?

Caleb let out a faint sigh. This time, the nobles had truly made a desperate gamble.

If they killed him, then even if Zaun rebelled, it would probably be crushed under Piltover's iron hand.

After all, the two Mecha suits had likely both fallen back under Piltover's control by now.

This massive amount of petricite was enough to restrict him. After that, whether they blocked the ventilation openings or executed him publicly, with the help of petricite, they might even be able to obtain Ryze and the World Runes.

Caleb could only place his hopes on his bluebird bracelet, hoping it could call Janna over to protect him when the time came.

After all, if he appeared in Zaun, or even in Piltover, Janna should still protect him with Monsoon.

But the next scene made Caleb's heart go cold.

Through that faint trace of light, Caleb could see huge clouds of green poison gas pouring into the petricite prison.

"Am I really going to die here?"

Caleb gently closed his eyes. The last time he had seen something else this green had been during the battle against Urgot deep in Zaun.

Damn oligarchs. They had so much wealth, yet they still were not satisfied.

Caleb did not care whether the Ferros family was behind this or not, nor did he want to care.

But after this, Piltover's "powerful elite" would probably only become a term that had once existed.

Assuming Caleb survived.

"Is there really any need to be this cautious with him?"

Garen frowned as he and Fiora watched Piltover's people pump poison gas inside.

"No amount of caution is too much."

The ones who had come were not only the Dauntless Vanguard led by Garen and Fiora, but also a massive petricite statue standing guard.

The purpose was that even if Caleb broke out of the prison, they would seize the opening while he was weak and kill him on the spot.

During this process, Mel from Noxus did not show herself. After all, Demacia's first emperor, Jarvan I, had died at the hands of Sion, the first Noxian.

His crown had now become Sion's lower jaw.

"Everyone, please treat this seriously. This man has abused magic and filled the Twin Cities with unrest."

"He even brutally murdered Councilor Morey, who served the Twin Cities for over a century."

Salo was responsible for hosting these two and reimbursing the Dauntless Vanguard for coming here.

Ever since he had felt his life threatened last time, he had spared no effort in joining the faction that wanted Caleb dead.

Garen glanced at Fiora, who held a rapier beside him, and felt a little more at ease.

If he was the one leading this group of Dauntless Vanguard soldiers, then Fiora's ability to kill a single target was Demacia's most outstanding.

Piltover's nobles were ruthless enough. They had paid nearly two years' worth of tariffs and an enormous price just to obtain this custom-made petricite prison and have these people hold the line.

Even if they had to face Zaun's counterattack afterward, they still had confidence, relying on Piltover's advancement.

After all, the manufacturing process of Hextech Gemstones and the mass production of Hextech crystals were both core technologies controlled by Piltover.

Even this poison smoke had been mixed with ground petricite particles.

Caleb could sense his life slipping away. The first to go to the death realm would probably be Yuumi.

After that would be himself and Ryze. Last would be Kai'Sa, who had already become an Ascended.

He wondered whether Ixtal and Shurima would avenge him.

In Caleb's final thoughts, only Shurima's clear starry sky remained, along with the Freljord's endless wind and snow.

He had not even had time to see that mysterious Ionia...

Bang!

A tremendous sound not only interrupted Caleb's life flashing before his eyes, but also startled the nearby Dauntless Vanguard.

"What are you doing? Starting a rebellion?"

Salo was scared half to death. After confirming there was no problem where he was, he turned his head and roared.

"Get out here!"

Garen tightened his grip on the greatsword in his hands and warily looked around.

"Are you sure there's something wrong with that thing?" Ekko looked at Jinx with some concern.

Both of them were covered in modular armor, so they were truly different from before.

"Didn't you see that whole setup? If Caleb is inside, then no matter how many times you rewind time, you won't be able to save him."

Hearing this, Ekko could not help gripping the weapon in his hand a little tighter.

Even the Governor, who seemed capable of anything in his mind, could indeed have been trapped if a prison like that had appeared near the teleportation point.

The hoverboard's speed rose another level, and Ekko rushed toward the Dauntless Vanguard's formation at high speed.

"Bye-bye!"

Jinx's Super Mega Death Rocket covered the petricite prison and the poison gas.

Caleb saw a trace of flame slip in through the ventilation opening, and then the entire room was ignited.

The huge pressure difference caused the petricite to crack as well. In the end, unable to withstand it, it opened a small hole.

Without the slightest hesitation, Caleb covered the entire inside of the petricite prison with a gale again.

Although that tiny bit of magic, squeezed out from the marrow of his bones, was quickly absorbed as well.

At first, he had not even been able to use Arcane Shift or Shadow Step. But now, at this moment, that little bit of magic managed to squeeze out a faint breeze.

But whether he made that effort or not no longer mattered, because the fire wave had already blasted one wall open.

Caleb dragged Kai'Sa with one hand and Yuumi with the other, struggling as he crawled out of the prison cell.

"Hurry! Kill him!"

Salo's shrill scream nearly broke his voice. Garen glanced at Fiora, then turned to deal with that strange mohawked kid.

Behind him, the Dauntless Vanguard also formed a battle line and began dealing with Jinx in the distance.

After all, anyone with even slightly good eyesight could see something suspicious about that missile of hers.

And it was also at this moment that a pair of crimson eyes emerged from the smoke.
