The city streets were alive with the distant hum of traffic and neon lights reflecting off glass towers, but Tae-Hyuk sensed something that the ordinary eye could not see.
He stood in the narrow alley behind the shop, movements measured, breathing steady. Hyun-Jae mirrored him a few feet away, attempting to replicate the stance Tae-Hyuk had taught him.
"You must control your center," Tae-Hyuk instructed, voice low but precise. "Your Qi flows outward. Every motion affects the environment. Even a concrete wall, a metal railing, every surface can become an advantage or a trap."
Hyun-Jae's brow furrowed as he shifted his weight, sending a faint shimmer of Qi through his body. It was imperfect, but visible to Tae-Hyuk's trained eyes.
Not bad… Tae-Hyuk thought. But you're still too predictable.
The alley's calm shattered as a commotion erupted nearby. A group of street fighters, reckless and eager to test their skills, had cornered an unsuspecting street vendor. Crates of produce tumbled, and shouts echoed off the walls.
Tae-Hyuk's eyes narrowed. "Observe," he said to Hyun-Jae. "Do not intervene until you understand the flow."
Before the attackers could strike, Tae-Hyuk moved. His steps were fluid, almost imperceptible, a blur of controlled motion. A flick of his wrist sent a discarded crate sliding into an assailant's path, tripping him. Another attacker lunged forward, only to be caught by a calculated sweep of Tae-Hyuk's leg, sending him sprawling without serious injury.
Hyun-Jae's eyes widened. "He's… like the wind. Or water. He doesn't even touch them directly, but..."
"Yes," Tae-Hyuk said, voice calm. "Control comes from understanding, not brute strength."
The remaining fighters hesitated, sensing something they could not see, an unseen authority in Tae-Hyuk's movements.
From the shadows, the four boys from earlier had arrived, curious about the commotion outside the shop. They peeked into the alley, unnoticed at first.
Sang-Ho whispered, "What is he doing? Look at the way he moves…"
Joon-Woo scowled. "It's… nothing we've ever trained for."
Tae-Min's eyes narrowed. "He's controlling everything… even the environment itself. How?"
Dae-Hyun, calm as always, observed quietly, his intuition recognizing patterns in Tae-Hyuk's energy. "It's precise. Controlled. Not raw power. Technique, discipline... Who is this man."he thought.
Tae-Hyuk's strikes were decisive yet restrained, ensuring the attackers were incapacitated but unharmed. Within moments, the alley returned to silence.
He exhaled slowly and turned to Hyun-Jae. "Now you try. Use your Qi to influence your surroundings. Do not strike the target directly, control, redirect, manipulate."
Hyun-Jae hesitated, but he summoned a little bit of courage and he stepped forward, summoning his energy. He shifted crates, nudged debris, and redirected the flow of movement. It was clumsy but effective.
Better, Tae-Hyuk thought. Still far from mastery, but progress.
The four boys watched silently, awe growing in their eyes.
"He's teaching the boy… in real combat," Sang-Ho muttered.
"And he's not even trying," Joon-Woo said, disbelief in his voice.
Dae-Hyun's gaze lingered on Tae-Hyuk. This is someone extraordinary… someone our master must meet.
Meanwhile, in the faint glow of the city, Tae-Hyuk sensed the energy of hidden forces, the faint threads of the Demonic Cult brushing against the city like whispers in the wind. They did not act openly, but their presence was undeniable.
Tae-Hyuk exhaled, stretching his senses. "The world is more dangerous than you imagine," he said, voice calm but edged with authority. "And the shadows are never empty."
Hyun-Jae's breathing was heavy but steady, eyes shining with determination. "I… I understand. I'll keep learning."
Tae-Hyuk inclined his head slightly. "Good. But remember: control first, power second. Everything else comes later."
The four young observers lingered a few more moments, their respect growing silently, before retreating back to their own path, minds racing with the demonstration they had just witnessed.
And in the quiet of the alley, Tae-Hyuk continued his training, the city itself becoming both teacher and battleground, preparing him for the challenges the shadows would soon bring.
