Chapter 15 - Meeting the Master

The shop smelled faintly of coffee and freshly opened snacks, a mundane calm that belied the currents of Qi weaving invisibly through the city. Tae-Hyuk stood behind the counter, quietly rearranging a few items when Seo-Yeon approached, carrying a bag of groceries.

"Tae-Hyuk," she said softly, setting the bag down. "Where are you headed? You've been… distant lately."

He glanced at her, calm, unreadable. "I'm going out for a stroll. Nothing serious."

Seo-Yeon raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. "A stroll? You're never this casual. Don't tell me you're sneaking into trouble again."

Tae-Hyuk offered a faint smile, brushing a lock of hair from his face. "There's nothing to worry about. I'll be back by evening. Just… enjoy your afternoon, Seo-Yeon."

She studied him, sensing that something lay beneath the words. "You always say that."

He tilted his head slightly, with calm eyes. "Don't worry, I'll stay out of trouble."

The streets of the city stretched endlessly, tall buildings casting long shadows in the late afternoon sun. Tae-Hyuk moved with quiet precision, each step measured, until he reached the rendezvous point where Dae-Hyun waited, calm as ever.

"You are punctual," Tae-Hyuk said.

Dae-Hyun inclined his head. "I take my responsibilities seriously. Master Li Shan will expect us to arrive on time. Are you ready?"

Tae-Hyuk's lips curved faintly. "Ready enough. Let's go."

The two moved silently through the city, weaving through alleyways and rooftops. Tae-Hyuk's senses remained alert, observing every subtle shift of Qi around them.

"You're unusually composed for someone meeting a Wudang master for the first time," Dae-Hyun remarked.

"I've met many masters," Tae-Hyuk said calmly. "Some arrogant, some humble. I find arrogant people easier to read."

Dae-Hyun chuckled softly. "I've heard my master can be… difficult. He doesn't accept outsiders lightly. Especially someone he cannot control or predict."

Tae-Hyuk's eyes glinted faintly. "I prefer it that way."

The Wudang compound appeared suddenly, an oasis of old architecture amid the modern city. High walls enclosed the training grounds, and faint currents of Qi rippled through the air like visible wind.

Inside, disciples moved in synchronized formations, practicing stances and Qi manipulation. The moment Tae-Hyuk and Dae-Hyun entered, dozens of pairs of eyes turned toward them. Whispers ran through the rows of students, curiosity, skepticism, and a hint of awe.

At the center, Master Li Shan sat cross-legged on a raised platform, his silver hair falling gracefully around his shoulders. His robes shimmered faintly, and his sharp eyes scanned Tae-Hyuk as if weighing every ounce of his presence.

"You are the one my disciple brought?" Li Shan's voice carried through the courtyard, sharp and commanding. "Dae-Hyun, explain why I should acknowledge this man presence."

Before Dae-hyun could find a reply to his master, Tae-Hyuk stepped forward calmly, Qi coiling around him. "I am Jin Tae-Hyuk. I have no intention of challenging your authority. I seek knowledge… but not at the expense of my own principles."

A murmur ran through the disciples. Several tilted their heads, sensing the controlled power Tae-Hyuk radiated.

Li Shan's lips curved into a faint, arrogant smile. "Principles, you say? Bold words for a stranger who walks into Wudang without invitation. Do you presume to teach us, or do you simply wish to test my patience?"

Tae-Hyuk's eyes remained calm and unflinching. "I am here because your disciple invited me. But I will not hide my abilities to please you."

Li Shan, obviously furious, sent out a force of Qi, trying to suppress Tae-hyuk with his Qi, but it had no effect on Tae-hyuk.

"Interesting" Li Shan's smile deepened, his gaze sharp as a blade. "Very well. Let us see if your skill is worthy of our attention."

The disciples around them shifted nervously. Some straightened instinctively, sensing the tension as though the air itself had thickened.

Dae-Hyun stepped slightly closer to Tae-Hyuk, voice low. "Master… he is not ordinary. Be careful."

Tae-Hyuk inclined his head slightly. "I am aware."

In that moment, the faint shimmer of Qi around Tae-Hyuk intensified. The air seemed to hum with energy as the two figures, the master and the visitor measured one another. The disciples held their breath, watching a silent storm build.

Tae-Hyuk's eyes met Li Shan's, calm and calculating. A single thought crossed his mind; "Let's see what the glorious Wudang has become."
