The world of the Awakened ran on golden light and divine systems, but beneath the Eclipse Mansion, the air tasted of cold starlight and old iron. Kaizer Gold stood at the edge of the rift, his shadow stretching long into the violet energy bleeding from the Obsidian Market.
"Hold the line," Kaizer said. His voice was a low vibration that seemed to rattle the very stone of the estate.
Behind him, the five members of the Abyssal Guard lay in a forced stasis. Their bodies jerked occasionally as the Holy Fever tried to turn their souls to ash. Ahead of him lay the JAA's greatest secret. With a single step that silenced the heartbeat of the earth, Kaizer vanished into the void.
The Siege: The Dread-Fortress
Above ground, the Tokyo sky had turned the color of a fresh bruise. Vorg the Ravager didn't descend like a warrior; he fell like a collapsing mountain. The High-Rank Warlord stood nearly thirty feet tall, his skeletal frame draped in banners made from the wings of fallen angels. He swung a mace of solidified gravity, and the shockwave turned the mansion's gatehouse into dust.
"Human whelp!" Vorg's voice was a grinding of tectonic plates. "The Shard calls to its masters. Give up the Anchor, or I'll sow your fields with the teeth of your dead."
The Sentinel stepped forward. The armored shadow looked like a child's toy next to the Warlord. Beside him, Malphas drew his black claymore, his heavy cape snapping in the Abyssal wind.
"We do not move," Malphas said. His voice was a hollow echo of absolute loyalty.
Vorg laughed, a sound like stones crushing together, and brought the mace down. The impact was felt on every seismograph in the city. The Sentinel's shield shattered instantly. His obsidian armor cracked, leaking violet essence.

But the mansion wasn't just a house anymore. It was Sovereign Territory.
"Sentinel," Malphas hissed, reaching out to touch his comrade's cracked armor. "The Master gave us a home. He gave us names. He gave us... Sovereignty."
Deep in the foundation, the Shard of Malice pulsed. A vein of pure Underworld energy surged through the floorboards and into the Sentinel's feet.

The Sentinel didn't just repair himself; he expanded. His armor fused with the stone of the estate. His legs became pillars of obsidian, and his shield grew to the size of a castle gate, etched with the jagged runes of the Abyss.

Vorg's second strike hit the shield and bounced back. The Warlord recoiled, his skeletal eyes widening. The Sentinel had become the mansion, and the mansion had become the Sentinel. The door was locked.
The Zero Division Vault
While his shadows bled for his home, Kaizer was three hundred feet above Tokyo, inside the Floating Pagoda. He didn't use the doors. He moved through the space between shadows that even the JAA's divine sensors couldn't track.
He reached the Archive of the Forsaken, a vault sealed with seven golden locks. Inside, he didn't find treasure. He found a man chained to a pillar of light.
The man was a flickering spirit, his face etched with centuries of agony. This was Takeshi Sato, the "First Hero" of Japan. History books called him a martyr. The truth was far worse.
"You're the Traitor," Kaizer said, stepping out of the dark.
Takeshi looked up with milky, blind eyes. "A human... with the heart of a King? Run, boy. They didn't kill me. They used me. I am the battery for their System. Every quest, every level-up... it's all processed through my suffering."
Takeshi hadn't stolen the Merchant's soul for power. He had wanted a Void-Blade to kill himself and end the System. He was the Judas of the Gods, not because he betrayed them, but because they had betrayed humanity.
The Clash of Disciples
"A touching story," a melodic voice echoed through the vault.
The air grew heavy with the scent of lotus flowers and rotting meat. A man dressed in Egyptian funerary silks stepped from the light. He had the head of a jackal, and his eyes were twin suns.
Anubis. The Second Disciple.
"The Bureau doesn't like leaks," Anubis said, raising an ankh-topped staff. "The Traitor must be erased. And you, Contractor... you're a glitch. I'll weigh your heart against the feather, and I think I'll find it heavy with sin."
At that moment, the vault's ceiling cracked. A projection of Vorg's malice leaked through from the battle at the mansion, a shadowy claw reaching for the Shard in Kaizer's pocket.
Kaizer stood at the center of the storm.
"Truth?" Kaizer laughed. It was a sharp, dangerous sound. "I don't care about your feather, Jackal. And I don't care about your System."
He activated the Devourer's Hunger, but he didn't aim it at Anubis. He aimed it at the chains holding Takeshi.
The vacuum was immense. Kaizer literally bit into the divine energy of the Gods. The Soul-Fire from Anubis was sucked into Kaizer's left hand, while his right gripped the Eclipse Talon and severed Vorg's claw in a spray of purple sparks.
"You'd free the Traitor?" Anubis roared, lunging forward. "You'd collapse the world's power for one ghost?"
"I'm not freeing him," Kaizer said. "I'm claiming him."
Kaizer grabbed Takeshi's spirit by the throat. Instead of killing him for the Merchant, he used his Authority to rewrite the ghost's contract.

The vault began to collapse as the System registered a critical error. Anubis was thrown back by the feedback. Kaizer turned toward a spectral mirror where the Merchant of Souls was watching.
"Merchant!" Kaizer shouted over the roar of the crumbling dimension. "I'm not giving you his head. I'm giving you something better. I'm giving you proof of the Gods' treason. Use it to blackmail the Celestial Bureau. That's worth ten thousand souls. Do we have a deal, or do I come back there and eat your faces?"
The Merchant's hundred faces shifted through fear and greed before settling on awe.
"The Nectar is yours!" the Merchant shrieked, tossing a vial of black liquid through the mirror. "The deal is struck! The Eclipse is beyond the Law!"
The Aftermath
Kaizer caught the vial and swapped places with a shadow back at the mansion. He arrived just as the Dread-Fortress slammed his massive shield into Vorg's chest, sending the Warlord reeling back into the rift.
Kaizer poured the Nectar into the mouths of his Abyssal Guard. One by one, they sat up. Their eyes were no longer human; they were infused with the Nectar of the Void.
Kuro, Vane, Mina, Raiden, and Sera stood and knelt before him. Behind them, the massive forms of Malphas and the Dread-Fortress stood like gods. At Kaizer's side, the vengeful spirit of Takeshi Sato waited.
Kaizer looked up. The golden light of the Gods was fading, replaced by the violet shroud of the Eclipse.
"The JAA will be here by morning," Rin Kusanagi said from the shadows. She had been watching the whole time, her sword trembling in her hand. "You stole their First Hero. You humiliated their Gods. Kaizer... you aren't just an S-Rank anymore."
Kaizer looked at the blue window floating in his vision.

"I know," Kaizer said, sheathing his blade. "I'm the reason they're afraid to turn off the lights."
