Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Shrine That Sees Beyond Fate

The academy had grown quieter.

Not in noise—but in intent.

After the assassination attempt, nothing was said openly, yet everything had changed. Eyes lingered longer. Conversations stopped when certain names were mentioned. Movements became calculated.

And at the center of it all—

Lucien Kael von Kurothar.

But this time—

He did not wait.

"You're leaving the academy?"

Aurelia's voice carried clear disbelief as she stood across from him in the eastern courtyard.

Lucien adjusted his gloves calmly. "…Temporarily."

Freya, leaning lazily against a pillar nearby, let out a short laugh. "So you're finally going on the offensive."

Lucien didn't deny it.

"For now," he said, "reacting isn't enough."

Aurelia crossed her arms. "And where exactly are you going?"

Lucien's gaze shifted slightly.

"To find the ones who are watching."

A brief silence followed.

Freya's grin widened. "Now that sounds interesting."

Aurelia, however, frowned. "…You don't even know who they are."

Lucien looked at her.

"I don't need to."

That answer… unsettled her more than she expected.

Because he wasn't guessing.

He was certain.

That same day, without grand announcement or escort, Lucien left the academy.

No guards.

No noble procession.

Only silence.

But he wasn't alone.

The road beyond the capital stretched far, cutting through forests and valleys untouched by the empire's dominance. It was quieter here… older.

As if the land itself remembered something long forgotten.

Lucien walked calmly, his perception field active.

Everything within his range was clear.

Every movement.

Every presence.

Every fluctuation of mana.

And yet—

"…Strange."

There was a gap.

A place where his perception did not reach.

Not because it was blocked—

But because it simply… wasn't there.

As if the world itself refused to acknowledge it.

Lucien's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…So this is it."

The forest thickened.

The air changed.

And soon—

He saw it.

A shrine.

Old.

Ancient.

Untouched by time.

Its structure was simple, yet it carried a presence that far exceeded anything within the empire. Wooden pillars, worn by centuries, stood firm. Paper talismans fluttered gently despite the still air.

And at its center—

Someone stood.

A girl.

Dressed in traditional shrine maiden robes, her long black hair flowing softly behind her. Her presence was calm… too calm.

As if she had always been there.

Waiting.

Lucien stopped a few steps away.

"…You're not hiding."

The girl turned slowly.

Her eyes met his.

Deep.

Endless.

Like staring into something far beyond human understanding.

"…There was no need to," she replied softly.

Her voice was gentle.

But carried weight.

Lucien studied her silently.

"…You're the one interfering with perception."

She nodded slightly.

"Yes."

No denial.

No hesitation.

A quiet confidence.

Lucien stepped closer.

"…Who are you?"

A brief pause.

Then—

She answered.

"…Tsukiyomi no Mikoto."

The name carried power.

Not just a name.

A title.

An existence.

Lucien's eyes narrowed.

"…That's not a human name."

A faint smile touched her lips.

"No."

Silence followed.

Heavy.

Then—

"You are different," Tsukiyomi said, her gaze unwavering. "Not from this world."

Lucien didn't react.

But—

The system did.

[Alert: External Entity Interference Detected]

[Analysis Failed]

[Warning: Unknown Authority Identified]

For the first time—

The system couldn't understand something.

Lucien spoke calmly.

"…You can see that?"

She tilted her head slightly.

"I can see what lies beyond fate."

That answer—

Confirmed everything.

She wasn't just powerful.

She was something else entirely.

"Why am I here?" Lucien asked.

Tsukiyomi took a step forward.

"Because you chose to come."

Lucien's gaze sharpened.

"…And if I didn't?"

Her expression remained calm.

"You would have eventually."

A quiet wind passed through the shrine.

But it carried no sound.

Only presence.

Then—

She raised her hand slightly.

And for a brief moment—

The world shifted.

Lucien's perception field collapsed.

Completely.

Gone.

His eyes widened—

Just slightly.

"…Impossible."

For the first time since his reincarnation—

Something had overridden his system.

Completely.

Tsukiyomi watched him.

Not with hostility.

But with interest.

"You rely on it too much."

Lucien's expression hardened.

"…It's part of me."

She shook her head gently.

"No."

A pause.

Then—

"It is something placed upon you."

Silence.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

Lucien's thoughts sharpened instantly.

"…Placed?"

The system flickered violently.

[Error]

[Error]

[Restricted Information]

His eyes darkened.

"…So it's true."

Tsukiyomi stepped closer.

Her presence overwhelming, yet calm.

"You are not the only one who has been chosen."

Lucien's gaze snapped toward her.

"…What did you say?"

For the first time—

A crack formed in his composure.

She met his eyes.

"There are others."

That single sentence—

Changed everything.

Not unique.

Not alone.

Not special.

Or rather—

Not the only one.

The system pulsed again.

[Synchronization Progress: 40%]

[New Directive Emerging…]

Lucien's mind raced.

"…How many?"

Tsukiyomi didn't answer immediately.

Instead—

She looked toward the distant sky.

"…Enough to shape the fate of this world."

A long silence followed.

Lucien exhaled slowly.

Then—

"…Why tell me this?"

Her gaze returned to him.

"Because you will face them."

A pause.

Then—

"And because…"

For the first time—

Her calm expression softened slightly.

"You are the only one who might break it."

The air grew heavier.

Denser.

As if the world itself was holding its breath.

Lucien looked at her.

"…Break what?"

She didn't answer.

Not directly.

Instead—

She turned away.

"…Return to the academy."

Lucien's eyes narrowed.

"…You're not done talking."

She shook her head slightly.

"No."

A pause.

Then—

"You are not ready to hear the rest."

That answer—

Was more frustrating than silence.

But Lucien didn't push further.

Because—

He understood.

This wasn't the end of this meeting.

It was the beginning.

As he turned to leave—

Tsukiyomi spoke once more.

"…Lucien."

He stopped.

"…Do not trust the system completely."

A pause.

Then—

"Because it was never meant to serve you."

The moment he stepped out of the shrine's boundary—

His perception field returned instantly.

The system stabilized.

But—

Something had changed.

Irreversibly.

[Synchronization Progress: 42%]

[Hidden Layer Detected…]

[Access: Denied]

Lucien's expression darkened slightly.

"…So this is the truth."

Not power.

Not destiny.

But control.

As he walked back toward the empire—

His steps were steady.

But his thoughts—

Were no longer the same.

"They're watching me."

"Others like me exist."

"And this system…"

His eyes sharpened.

"…is hiding something."

Far away—

In an unknown location—

A figure opened their eyes.

"…He has made contact."

Another voice responded.

"…Then it's too late to stop him."

A pause.

Then—

"…Prepare the next candidate."

Back under the evening sky—

Lucien stopped walking for just a moment.

Then—

A faint smile appeared.

Cold.

Sharp.

Determined.

"…Good."
