Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Ones Who Watch

Some cages aren't built to keep monsters out…

They're built to watch what happens inside.

Arjun didn't speak.

But his mind—

it was already running ahead.

Faster than his body ever could.

"An experiment…"

That word echoed.

Again.

Again.

Again.

"What if we're not survivors…?"

"What if we're subjects?"

The thought felt wrong.

But also—

too real.

Arjun clenched his fists.

"No…"

But even he didn't sound convinced.

The man beside him watched silently.

Like he had heard that thought before.

From others.

From many others.

"You're thinking too much," he said finally.

"Thinking gets people killed here."

Arjun let out a dry laugh.

"Not thinking gets you controlled."

Silence.

Before either of them could continue—

A loud explosion echoed.

Not from outside.

From inside the safe zone.

BOOM!

The ground trembled.

Dust fell from above.

People screamed again.

But this time—

the panic was different.

"Inner wall breach!" someone shouted.

Arjun's head snapped toward the sound.

"Inner wall…?"

The man cursed under his breath.

"They're moving it…"

"What?"

"They're letting it deeper."

Arjun froze.

"What the hell do you mean—letting it?!"

No answer.

Because at that exact moment—

the Hunter appeared again.

Not near the outer barricade.

Not near the broken gate.

It was already—

deep inside.

Too deep.

Arjun's heart dropped.

"That's not a breach…"

"That's a path."

The Hunter didn't attack immediately.

It stood still.

Looking.

Scanning.

Like it was searching for something.

Or someone.

Arjun felt it again.

That gaze.

That focus.

Locked onto him.

"Why me…?" he whispered.

The man stepped in front of him instantly.

"Don't stand still!"

But Arjun didn't move.

The Hunter wasn't rushing.

It wasn't attacking randomly.

It wasn't behaving like before.

It was—

waiting.

"Move!" the man shouted again.

Gunfire erupted from the towers.

Snipers.

Precise.

Calculated.

Bullets hit the Hunter—

shoulders.

legs.

neck.

It staggered.

But didn't fall.

Instead—

it slowly turned its head upward.

Toward the tower.

Arjun saw it clearly.

That moment.

That connection.

"This isn't random…" Arjun muttered.

The man beside him said quietly—

"I told you…"

"They're evolving."

"No…" Arjun shook his head.

"This isn't evolution."

"This is communication."

Silence.

Then—

everything snapped.

The Hunter moved.

Fast.

Too fast to follow.

It came straight—

for Arjun.

"DOWN!" the man tackled him.

CRASH!

Concrete shattered.

Metal bent.

Arjun's ears rang.

But one thing stayed clear.

It was targeting him.

"WHY ME?!" he shouted.

The Hunter turned again.

Slow.

Controlled.

Its eyes locked onto Arjun.

"Arjun…" the man said quietly.

"This isn't normal."

"No shit!"

The Hunter stepped forward.

Unstoppable.

Arjun forced himself up.

Pain shot through his side—

but he ignored it.

His grip tightened around the metal rod.

"If it wants me…"

"Then I'll make it regret it."

The man grabbed his shoulder.

"You're not fighting this alone."

Arjun looked at him.

"Then don't hold back."

The man smirked.

"Good."

Gun raised.

Ready.

The Hunter lunged.

Arjun moved first.

He ran straight toward it.

The Hunter swung.

Arjun ducked—

barely.

He rolled.

Came up again.

And struck.

CLANG!

The rod hit its side.

This time—

it reacted.

Not pain.

Recognition.

"What are you…?" Arjun whispered.

The Hunter tilted its head.

Then—

it made a sound.

A voice.

Broken.

Distorted.

"…You…"

Arjun froze.

The man behind him went still.

"That's… impossible…"

The Hunter stepped closer.

"…Different…"

Arjun's grip tightened.

"What do you mean?"

Silence.

Then—

"…Same…"

Everything stopped.

A voice echoed from above.

"Enough."

Arjun looked up.

The tower.

The figure stood there.

Watching.

Commanding.

"Bring him to me."

Silence.

Heavy.

Absolute.

Arjun's heart pounded.

That order—

was for him.

The Hunter stepped back.

Not attacking.

Just obeying.

Arjun's mind went blank.

"He controls it…"

The man whispered—

"Now you understand…"

Arjun didn't respond.

Because now—

he finally saw it.

The monsters outside…

were just the beginning.

The real danger—

was inside.

And it had just chosen him.

---

The order echoed in Arjun's head.

"Bring him to me."

---

It wasn't loud.

It didn't need to be.

---

Because somehow—

it felt absolute.

---

Unquestionable.

---

The Hunter stepped aside.

Not attacking.

Not resisting.

---

Obeying.

---

Arjun's chest tightened.

---

"That thing…"

---

"It's listening to him…"

---

The man beside him didn't deny it.

---

"Not just listening," he said quietly.

---

"It's responding."

---

Arjun's heartbeat slowed.

---

That wasn't normal.

---

That wasn't possible.

---

Or maybe—

---

this world had already moved past what was possible.

---

"Who is he…?" Arjun asked again.

---

This time—

the man answered differently.

---

Not hesitant.

---

Not careful.

---

Just honest.

---

"A king."

---

Silence.

---

"A ruler of this place?"

---

The man shook his head slowly.

---

"No."

---

A pause.

---

"Something worse."

---

Before Arjun could react—

---

Heavy footsteps approached.

---

Not rushed.

---

Not chaotic.

---

Disciplined.

---

Arjun turned.

---

A group of armed guards walked toward them.

---

Uniform.

Formation.

Eyes cold.

---

Not scared.

---

Controlled.

---

They stopped a few feet away.

---

One of them stepped forward.

---

"You're coming with us."

---

Not a request.

---

An order.

---

Arjun didn't move.

---

"What if I don't?"

---

The guard didn't hesitate.

---

"You don't have that choice."

---

Silence.

---

Arjun glanced at the man beside him.

---

"Say something."

---

The man didn't look at him.

---

Didn't help.

---

Didn't interfere.

---

"Go," he said quietly.

---

Arjun's jaw tightened.

---

"So that's it?"

---

The man finally met his eyes.

---

And for the first time—

---

there was something there.

---

Not fear.

---

Not weakness.

---

Warning.

---

"If he wants to see you…"

---

A pause.

---

"You go."

---

Arjun exhaled slowly.

---

His options—

---

none.

---

Fight?

---

Pointless.

---

Run?

---

Impossible.

---

Stay?

---

Suicide.

---

He looked back at the guards.

---

"Fine."

---

A pause.

---

"But if this is some kind of game—"

---

The guard cut him off.

---

"It is."

---

Silence.

---

That answer hit harder than expected.

---

Arjun didn't say anything else.

---

He stepped forward.

---

The guards surrounded him instantly.

---

Not aggressively.

---

But precisely.

---

Like they had done this before.

---

Many times.

---

As they began walking—

---

Arjun noticed something.

---

People were watching.

---

Not openly.

---

Not directly.

---

But enough.

---

Eyes from corners.

Shadows.

Windows.

---

Fear.

---

But not just fear.

---

Recognition.

---

Like they knew where he was going.

---

And what that meant.

---

"Where are you taking me?" Arjun asked.

---

No answer.

---

The guards kept moving.

---

Toward the center.

---

Toward the tower.

---

With every step—

---

the air grew heavier.

---

Thicker.

---

Harder to breathe.

---

Arjun's instincts screamed.

---

This wasn't right.

---

This wasn't normal.

---

This wasn't survival.

---

This was something else entirely.

---

They reached the base of the tower.

---

Tall.

Silent.

Oppressive.

---

The entrance opened automatically.

---

Dark inside.

---

Too dark.

---

"Go."

---

The guard stepped aside.

---

Arjun didn't move immediately.

---

He stared inside.

---

Nothing visible.

---

No light.

---

No sound.

---

Just darkness.

---

Waiting.

---

Watching.

---

He swallowed.

---

Then stepped in.

---

The door closed behind him.

---

With a heavy—

---

THUD.

---

And just like that—

---

he was alone.

---

A faint sound echoed.

---

Not footsteps.

---

Not breathing.

---

Something else.

---

Something… deliberate.

---

Then—

---

a voice.

---

From the darkness.

---

Calm.

---

Controlled.

---

"And finally…"

---

A pause.

---

"You're here."

---

Arjun's heart stopped.

---

Because that voice—

---

it wasn't unfamiliar.

---

Not completely.

---

Like he had heard it before.

---

Somewhere.

---

In fragments.

---

In echoes.

---

In memories that didn't feel like his.

---

"Who are you?" Arjun asked.

---

Silence.

---

Then—

---

a step.

---

Slow.

---

Measured.

---

Closer.

---

A shadow began to form.

---

Tall.

---

Still.

---

Watching.

---

And then—

---

two eyes opened in the darkness.

---

Not glowing.

---

Not monstrous.

---

But something far worse.

---

Human.

---

Aware.

---

Interested.

---

"Let's begin."

To be continued....

Things are no longer about survival…

Now it's about control.

And Arjun has just stepped into something far bigger than he understands.
