Chapter 6: The Truth Hidden in Darkness
The silence in the castle felt heavier than before.
Liora sat on the edge of her bed, her fingers tightly gripping the soft fabric beneath her. Her mind replayed everything that had happened outside the gate.
The Shadow Beast.
The battle.
The light.
And most of all…
Him.
The way his eyes changed when her light touched him.
It wasn't just pain.
It was something darker.
Something frightening.
Her chest tightened.
"Did I… hurt him?"
She slowly looked at her hand again.
Nothing.
Just her normal hand.
But she knew now.
It wasn't normal anymore.
A soft knock suddenly echoed at the door.
Liora blinked.
"Come in…"
The door slowly opened.
The small shadow wolf entered again.
Her eyes softened.
"You came back…"
The little creature jumped onto the bed beside her.
She gently patted its head.
"You know… I think I made him angry."
The wolf tilted its head.
She sighed.
"He saved me… but I hurt him…"
Her voice became quieter.
"Why do I feel so bad…?"
The wolf nudged her hand gently.
She smiled faintly.
"You're comforting me?"
The wolf wagged its shadow tail.
For a moment…
Her heart felt lighter.
Meanwhile—
The Shadow King stood alone in the throne hall.
Darkness surrounded him.
His hand touched the faint mark on his chest where her light had struck.
The wound had healed.
But the feeling remained.
Burning.
Unfamiliar.
His eyes darkened.
"Light magic…"
It was the one power he should destroy.
The one power capable of ending him.
And yet…
He didn't.
Why?
The shadows around him stirred.
They whispered.
Destroy her…
Kill her…
End the threat…
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"…No."
The shadows trembled.
He turned away slowly.
"This is not the time."
But deep inside—
Even he knew.
That decision might cost him later.
Back in her room—
Liora finally decided to rest.
But sleep didn't come easily.
After a long while, exhaustion pulled her into darkness.
She dreamed.
A dark sky.
A burning kingdom.
Shadows covering everything.
Screams filled the air.
She stood alone in the center.
Then—
She saw him.
The Shadow King.
Standing above everything.
Watching the world burn.
His eyes glowing.
Cold.
Heartless.
"Stop…" she whispered.
But he didn't move.
Darkness spread from him.
Destroying everything.
"No… please…"
She ran toward him.
But before she reached him—
He turned.
His eyes locked onto hers.
"You cannot stop me."
Her heart froze.
The ground shattered beneath her.
She fell—
Liora woke up suddenly.
Her breath came in short gasps.
It was just a dream…
Right?
Her chest still hurt.
Her heart still raced.
Why did it feel so real?
She slowly got up from bed.
She couldn't sleep anymore.
Her eyes moved toward the door.
His warning echoed again.
Do not wander the castle alone.
She hesitated.
But curiosity pulled her again.
"I'll just stay close…"
She opened the door quietly.
The hallway felt silent.
Different from before.
She walked slowly.
Carefully.
The shadows didn't attack this time.
Instead…
They moved away from her.
She followed the corridor.
Then—
She noticed something strange.
A faint light coming from a nearby room.
Light?
Her heartbeat quickened.
She moved closer.
The door was slightly open.
She gently pushed it.
Inside—
Her eyes widened.
It was a hidden chamber.
Ancient symbols covered the walls.
And in the center…
A large mirror made of black crystal.
The air felt heavy.
Strange.
She stepped inside slowly.
"What is this place…?"
As she approached the mirror—
The surface began to ripple.
Her reflection appeared.
But something felt wrong.
Her reflection… wasn't moving exactly like her.
Her heart skipped.
Then—
The reflection smiled.
She froze.
"I've been waiting for you."
Her breath caught.
"W-who are you?"
"I'm you."
The reflection's eyes glowed faintly.
"No…"
Fear crept into her chest.
"You carry light… but darkness lives inside you too."
Her heartbeat quickened.
"What do you mean?"
The reflection raised its hand.
Dark shadows appeared behind her.
"You are not just his salvation…"
The reflection's smile widened.
"You are his destruction."
Her breath stopped.
Suddenly—
The mirror cracked.
A powerful force filled the room.
"Liora."
A familiar voice echoed.
The Shadow King appeared instantly.
The mirror shattered.
The reflection vanished.
Silence fell.
He looked at her.
Anger flickered in his eyes.
"I told you not to wander."
Her voice trembled slightly.
"I didn't mean to… I saw the light…"
His gaze shifted to the broken mirror.
His expression darkened.
"You should not have seen this."
Her chest tightened.
"What was that?"
Silence.
Then—
"A forbidden chamber."
"Why forbidden?"
He didn't answer immediately.
Then—
"Because it reveals truth."
Her heartbeat quickened.
"What truth?"
He stepped closer.
His eyes locked onto hers.
"The truth… that may destroy everything."
Her breath caught.
Before she could ask more—
He grabbed her hand gently.
"Come."
She followed silently.
The tension between them felt heavier now.
More complicated.
More dangerous.
As they walked—
She couldn't stop thinking.
His destruction…
Why did the reflection say that?
She looked at him.
He walked calmly.
But something in his expression felt darker than before.
For the first time…
She realized.
The Shadow King…
Might not be the hero of this story.
He might be—
The villain.
