Kaelen's POV
She walked to the middle of the room, her bare feet silent on the polished wood. Dropping to her knees, she placed both hands flat against the floor.
For several heartbeats, nothing happened. Then her body went completely still, every muscle locked in place.
"There is suffering here." Her voice had transformed, becoming empty and far away. "Deep suffering. Ancient anguish that has seeped into the very bones of this house."
My throat constricted. What the hell did that mean?
"I see a woman," the delicate continued. Her eyes remained open but saw nothing in this room. "She's crying out. Her voice is raw from it. The screams rip from her until there's nothing left inside her."
My jaw clenched. I recognized the agony she was describing. I knew exactly which memory she had stumbled into.
Stop. Just stop this now.
