Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: After the Blast

A deafening explosion tore through the night.

The abandoned facility collapsed in seconds, flames bursting outward as debris scattered across the ground. The shockwave rippled through nearby buildings, shattering glass and sending a cloud of dust and fire into the sky.

For a moment—everything went silent.

Then… chaos.

---

Kabir's ears rang as he hit the ground hard. Pain shot through his body, but he forced himself to move. Smoke filled the air, making it hard to see, hard to breathe.

"Anaya!" he shouted, his voice hoarse.

No response.

Panic gripped him. He pushed himself up, ignoring the pain, scanning through the burning wreckage. Flames danced around him, metal creaked, pieces of the structure still collapsing.

"ANAYA!"

Still nothing.

His heart pounded faster. This wasn't right. She was faster than him, stronger—she should've made it out.

Unless…

"No," he muttered. "No, no, no…"

---

A few meters away, under a pile of broken concrete and steel—something moved.

A hand.

Anaya.

She gasped sharply as she forced her eyes open. Everything around her was blurred, ringing, distant. Blood trickled down her forehead, her body barely responding.

Memories flashed again—

The man.

The message.

Phase 2.

Her eyes widened.

"Kabir…" she tried to speak, but her voice barely came out.

She pushed against the debris, struggling. Pain surged through her body, but she didn't stop. Slowly, with every ounce of strength left, she managed to free herself.

She stumbled forward—just as Kabir spotted her.

"Anaya!"

He ran toward her and caught her before she fell. Relief hit him instantly. "You're okay… you're okay…"

She grabbed his arm tightly. "Listen to me…"

Kabir frowned. "We need to get you out of here first."

"No!" her voice came out stronger this time. "Phase 2… it's already started."

Kabir's expression changed. "What do you mean?"

Anaya looked back at the burning ruins. "That explosion… it wasn't to kill us."

A pause.

"It was to erase everything."

Kabir understood immediately. "All the data… the facility… proof…"

"Gone," she said.

The truth hit hard.

This wasn't a failure—it was a calculated move.

---

Suddenly, Kabir's device beeped.

He pulled it out quickly. Multiple alerts flooded the screen—far more than before. His face went pale.

"This can't be…"

Anaya steadied herself. "What is it?"

Kabir turned the screen toward her.

Dozens of red markers.

No—hundreds.

Spread across the entire city.

Hospitals. Power grids. Transport systems. Banks. Communication towers.

Everything.

Anaya's breath stopped. "This… this is impossible…"

Kabir shook his head slowly. "No… this is Phase 2."

---

Far away, in a hidden control room—

The man stood in front of a massive digital screen, watching the city light up piece by piece.

Controlled chaos. Perfect design.

A slow smile appeared on his face.

"Let's see what you do now, Anaya…" he whispered.

He pressed a button.

And across the city—systems began to fail.

Lights flickered.

Signals dropped.

Panic began.

---

Back at the ruins, Anaya looked up at the skyline. Parts of the city were already going dark. Sirens started again—but this time, they sounded… different.

Bigger.

More desperate.

Kabir clenched his jaw. "He's not attacking one place…"

Anaya completed it, her voice cold:

"He's attacking everything."

A heavy silence followed.

This wasn't a fight anymore.

This was war.

Kabir looked at her. "We can't stop this alone."

Anaya's eyes hardened, stronger than ever despite the pain.

"Then we don't fight alone."

Kabir paused. "You're thinking what I'm thinking?"

She nodded.

"It's time to bring the truth out."

---

But just as they were about to move—

Kabir's device glitched.

A message appeared.

Unknown source.

Only one line:

"Tick tock… 6 hours left."

Anaya's grip tightened.

"6 hours… for what?" Kabir asked.

Anaya stared at the screen, her instincts screaming danger louder than ever before.

Her voice dropped to a whisper—

"I don't think we want to find out."
