Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Six Hours to Collapse

The city was unraveling.

Within minutes, chaos had spread like wildfire. Traffic signals malfunctioned, causing massive collisions. Hospitals lost power backups. Communication networks flickered in and out, leaving people disconnected and vulnerable. Panic wasn't just rising—it was exploding.

And above it all… a countdown had begun.

6:00:00

---

Anaya and Kabir stood on a nearby overpass, watching the city spiral into disorder. Sirens screamed from every direction, but they were scattered, uncoordinated—just like the mastermind wanted.

Kabir clenched his jaw. "This is beyond us now. We need backup—real backup."

Anaya nodded. "Authorities won't be enough. They're already overwhelmed."

Kabir looked at her. "Then what are you thinking?"

A pause.

Anaya's eyes hardened.

"We go public."

Kabir blinked. "You mean… expose everything?"

"Everything," she said. "The mastermind, the network, Phase 2. If people know what's happening, they won't panic blindly—they'll fight back, adapt."

Kabir hesitated. "And you?"

Anaya didn't answer immediately.

Because she knew what "everything" meant.

Her past.

The experiments.

What she really was.

---

Meanwhile…

Inside a secure government command center, alarms were blaring nonstop. Screens showed multiple system failures across the city. Officers rushed from one station to another, trying to regain control—but every fix triggered another failure somewhere else.

"This is coordinated!" one officer shouted.

"No—it's controlled," another replied.

A senior official stepped forward, his face grim. "Find the source. Now."

But before anyone could respond—

Every screen in the room went black.

Then… one by one, they lit up again.

A single message appeared:

"6 hours. Stop me… if you can."

Silence fell.

This wasn't just an attack.

It was a challenge.

---

Back on the streets, Anaya and Kabir moved fast, heading toward a hidden relay station—one of the few places still capable of broadcasting citywide.

"If we can access this, we can send the truth out," Kabir said.

Anaya nodded, but something felt off. Too easy. Too direct.

As they entered the station, the lights flickered again.

Kabir froze. "You feel that?"

Anaya whispered, "Yeah…"

A trap.

Before they could react—

Gunfire erupted.

They dove for cover as bullets tore through the walls. A new group of operatives surrounded the building, more heavily armed, more precise than before.

Kabir returned fire. "He's not just watching anymore—he's hunting us."

Anaya moved strategically, taking down enemies one by one, but something was different this time. They weren't just trying to stop her…

They were targeting Kabir.

"Kabir—MOVE!" she shouted.

Too late.

A sharp shot rang out.

Kabir staggered.

Time slowed.

Anaya's eyes widened. "No…"

Kabir dropped to one knee, clutching his side, blood seeping through his fingers.

The attackers retreated suddenly—as if their mission was complete.

Silence fell again.

Anaya rushed to him, catching him before he collapsed. "Kabir! Stay with me!"

He tried to speak, but his voice was weak. "I'm… fine…"

She shook her head. "No, you're not!"

Her hands trembled as she tried to stop the bleeding.

Kabir grabbed her wrist gently. "Listen…"

She looked at him, fear breaking through her strength for the first time.

"They're not trying to kill me," he said weakly.

Anaya froze.

"What…?"

Kabir forced a painful breath.

"I'm bait."

The realization hit like a shockwave.

This wasn't random.

This wasn't chaos.

This was personal.

---

Somewhere in the shadows…

The man watched through a live feed.

His expression calm. Controlled.

Perfect.

"Every move you make, Anaya…" he whispered,

"I'm already ahead."

---

Back at the station, Anaya held Kabir tightly, her mind racing faster than ever before.

The countdown ticked in her head.

4:12:37 remaining…

Her past.

Her enemy.

Her partner—bleeding in her arms.

Everything was collapsing at once.

Kabir looked at her, his voice barely audible. "You have to go…"

She shook her head immediately. "No. I'm not leaving you."

"You have to," he insisted. "If you stay… we both lose."

Tears welled in her eyes—but her expression turned fierce.

"I'm not losing you."

A long pause.

Then slowly—

Anaya made a decision.

One that would change everything.

She reached into her pocket… and pulled out a small device.

Kabir frowned weakly. "What is that…?"

Anaya looked at it—then at him.

Her voice dropped to a whisper:

"Something I swore I'd never use again."

Kabir's eyes widened slightly.

"Anaya… what are you—"

She activated it.

---

Suddenly, her entire demeanor changed.

Her eyes turned cold.

Empty.

Controlled.

Not the Anaya Kabir knew.

Something else.

Something dangerous.

She stood up slowly.

And without looking back, she said—

"Trust me."

Then she walked into the darkness… alone.

Kabir lay there, unable to move, fear creeping into his chest—not from the enemies…

But from what Anaya had just become.
