Cherreads

Chapter 6 - No Direction.

Leaving Abossey Okai felt right.

But it didn't feel easy.

Kofi walked through the busy streets of Accra with no destination in mind.

Cars passed.

People moved.

Life continued.

But for him…

Everything felt uncertain.

He had just left his only source of income.

No savings.

No backup plan.

Nothing.

Just himself.

"Maybe I made a mistake…" he muttered.

The thought stayed with him as he walked.

The city looked different now.

Before, it was full of opportunity.

Now…

It looked like a place that could swallow you whole.

The Struggle Begins Again

The next few days were hard.

Very hard.

Kofi went from place to place again.

Looking for work.

"Any work available?"

"No."

"Please, I can do anything."

"Leave your number."

The same answers.

Over and over.

Rejection became normal.

Sometimes he would stand outside shops for hours.

Waiting.

Hoping someone would call him in.

But no one did.

Money Runs Out

Days passed.

Then weeks.

The little money he had left…

Started disappearing.

Food became limited.

Some days, he ate once.

Some days…

Not at all.

Hunger became something he had to manage.

Not avoid.

One afternoon, he sat by the roadside, watching people eat from a nearby food joint.

The smell alone made his stomach tighten.

He looked away.

"I didn't come here for this," he said quietly.

But reality didn't listen.

The Weight of Survival

Nights were the hardest.

Lying down with nothing in your stomach…

And everything in your mind.

Questions kept coming.

What am I doing?

Why is everything so hard?

Why is nothing working?

Kofi turned to the wall.

Frustrated.

Tired.

"This is not how I planned my life," he said under his breath.

But life doesn't follow plans.

A Breaking Point

One evening, after another long day of rejection, Kofi sat alone.

Quiet.

Still.

He didn't feel angry.

He didn't feel sad.

He felt empty.

For the first time…

He thought about giving up.

Not completely.

But enough to stop trying so hard.

"Maybe this is just my life," he said.

The thought was dangerous.

Because once you accept that…

You stop fighting.

But Something Remained

Kofi closed his eyes.

Took a deep breath.

Then slowly…

He shook his head.

"No," he said.

His voice was low.

But firm.

"I didn't come this far to stop here."

It wasn't confidence.

It wasn't strength.

It was something simpler.

Refusal.

Refusal to give up.

A Small Opportunity

The next day, something changed.

Not something big.

Not something life-changing.

Just…

A small opportunity.

He heard about a job.

Not permanent.

Not stable.

But something.

And at this point…

Something was enough.

Kofi stood up.

Dusted himself.

And moved.

Because one thing had become clear to him.

Life was not going to be easy.

Nothing was going to come to him.

If he wanted anything…

He had to keep moving.

Even when it didn't make sense.

End of Chapter 6

Kofi had nothing.

No direction.

No stability.

No guarantees.

But he still had one thing left.

The will to continue.

And sometimes…

That's all a man needs to keep going.
