Chapter 6 - Bab 6: The Enchanting Sunset

The evening was creeping in, tinged with the last glow of sunset. Team Arou's training had finally ended.

Arou carefully sheathed his sword, while Shion and Rei cleared the remaining ether energy from the area.

Airi stayed a little apart, cool and composed, her gaze fixed straight ahead.

Nova stood in front of her, a faint smile on his lips. He exuded an easy aura, but his eyes were sharp.

"Good work," Nova said, his voice light but clearly audible.

Airi looked at him coldly, slightly startled.

"…"

Nova stepped closer, his gaze unwavering. Without hesitation, he ran his hand through her hair, gently letting his fingers graze the strands.

Airi froze, eyes wide, her body stiff.

"So… you're really beautiful," Nova said, his smile teasing, playful—but his eyes carried a hint of seriousness.

Airi swallowed, suppressing a mix of anger and curiosity.

"…What do you mean?" she asked coolly, trying to maintain her composure.

Nova withdrew his hand, smiling a little wider.

"No other meaning than what I see. Your focus on the battlefield earlier was incredible… and I noticed every little detail," he said casually, though his gaze was intense.

Arou watched from afar, both confused and amused.

"Uh… Nova, are you serious?"

Shion and Rei glanced over, expressions a mix of surprise and amusement.

Airi remained icy, but a faint blush betrayed that Nova's teasing and praise had affected her.

The cracks in the sky pulsed faintly, a quiet rhythm as if the world itself was breathing.

For the first time, Team Arou felt a light, playful moment amid the usual tension of training.

Nova grew more mischievous, Airi stayed cool but subtly changed, and the team's dynamics slowly came alive.

The sun dipped lower, casting long shadows across Arou's backyard, still dusted with traces of battle.

Arou adjusted his sword, Shion and Rei watched quietly, and Airi sat rigid, expression unchanging.

Nova settled beside her, a mischievous grin still playing on his lips.

"You know, Airi…" he said, casual but teasing,

"If you smiled more often, the world would feel brighter."

Airi shot him a sharp look, holding her breath.

"…Hmph," she replied curtly, maintaining her icy demeanor.

Nova raised an eyebrow, grinning.

"You're always so serious. But if you want, I could teach you how to smile… just for me."

Airi clenched her jaw, cheeks tinged red.

"Nova… stop it," she said coldly, almost commanding.

Nova ignored her and continued.

"You know… your hair looks beautiful in the sunset. The world should get to see it more often," he said, brushing her hair lightly. Airi quickly swatted his hand away.

Shion watched from a distance, suppressing a smile.

Rei rolled her eyes, trying to stay serious but clearly distracted.

Arou stifled a laugh, both annoyed and entertained by the odd dynamic unfolding.

Airi stood, sword ready, clearly exasperated.

"Enough! I'm sick of your chatter, Nova!"

Nova chuckled softly, still smiling.

"You're fed up? Good… that means I got a reaction out of you," he said, relaxed, his aura unaffected.

The sunset dimmed further, the sky's cracks faint but visible. For a moment, their small world was filled with laughter, teasing, and the slowly blossoming energy of their team.

Nova sat back beside Airi, leaning slightly closer, mischievous grin intact, eyes attentive, playful spark in them.

"You know, Airi… being serious all the time must be exhausting," he said lightly, brushing her shoulder gently.

Airi turned sharply, eyes cold, holding her breath.

"Don't bother me," she said shortly, though a hint of something unsettled slipped through.

Nova was unbothered, smiling wider. He leaned in, bringing his face closer to hers, almost whispering.

"Ah, I just want to make sure you stay beautiful, even when angry. You know… a little smile from you could change everything. Even the cracks in the sky seem to pale beside you."

Nora, standing a few steps behind Nova, tapped his shoulder silently, eyes shining, as if saying, "Go on, make her react."

Airi's breath caught, cheeks flushed. Her sword remained at her side, body tense, but she couldn't look away. Shion and Rei exchanged glances, clearly enjoying the scene while keeping a safe distance.

Arou leaned against a tree, half annoyed, half entertained, seeing the unusual tension: Nova teasing, Airi cold but reacting, Nora cheering quietly, the rest of the team amused yet alert.

Nova patted her shoulder again, grin still playful.

"If you smiled even a little… I'm sure the entire battlefield would pause just to see it. And I want to be the only one who gets to."

Airi lowered her gaze, holding back both anger and embarrassment. Her heart raced faster than usual. She wanted to ignore him, but it was hard when Nova's eyes locked onto hers with such intent.

A few seconds of silence passed, only the wind and rustling leaves breaking it.

This moment quietly shifted the team dynamic; discipline and tension blended with lighthearted interaction, creating a new, oddly enjoyable tension for everyone watching.

Nora gave a discreet thumbs-up behind Nova, smiling widely.

"Good job, Nova. Keep going—let her feel a little romance."

Nova smiled, holding his gaze on Airi a beat longer, then slowly withdrew his hand.

Airi's cheeks were red, her breathing uneven, but she couldn't hide that something had stirred inside her—a realization that Nova's teasing was harder to ignore than she expected.

Shion and Rei looked on from afar, stifling laughter but clearly impressed by the tension.

Arou took a deep breath, leaning against the tree, half annoyed, half amused, realizing the team's rigid training atmosphere had shifted into something… strangely captivating.

Night fell. The lights inside Arou's house were dim, the backyard quiet except for the team's light footsteps.

Nova stood beside Airi again, his mischievous grin unyielding.

"You're always serious… but you know? I'm curious what your smile looks like when you're truly relaxed."

Airi turned her head coldly.

"There won't be one," she replied.

Nova reached out, lightly brushing the tips of her hair.

"Ah, that's a bit dull. But don't worry, I can fix that."

Nora tapped Nova's shoulder from behind, smiling.

"Ha! Keep going! Make her react."

Nova leaned in slightly.

"You know… your cheeks, when they turn red, are fascinating. I could watch them for hours and never tire."

Airi glared, cheeks deepening in color.

"Nova…!"

Nova only laughed softly.

"Hah, see? You reacted. That means I succeeded."

Arou stood a little way off, leaning back against a tree, holding in laughter.

Shion and Rei exchanged glances, suppressing their own smiles.

Airi swiped her hair away, trying to distance herself, but Nova stayed beside her.

"Nothing wrong with looking at you. In fact… you're more captivating than I imagined."

Nora, pleased behind them, whispered,

"See? She's reacting. Right on target, Nova."

Airi remained outwardly cold, but her heart raced.

Nova patted her shoulder again.

"Fed up? Good. Means I got you."

The sunset faded, golden light wrapping the yard.

Nova rose to stand near Airi, gaze serious, playful smile still tugging at his lips.

"You know, Airi… as sunset comes, I realized something," he said softly, leaning in slightly.

Airi looked at him coldly.

"What is it?"

Nova smiled, taking a slow step closer.

"That even the sunset pales beside you. Your eyes, your hair… the way you stand… everything makes the world feel different."

Airi swallowed, cheeks flushed.

"Nova… stop with your chatter," she said, voice trembling slightly though she tried to sound stern.

Nora, behind Nova, tapped his shoulder with a grin.

"Go on! Let her feel a little romance."

Nova leaned closer, their distance shrinking.

"But I won't stop. I want you to know… this sunset feels perfect because you're here. You make everything brighter… warmer," he said, voice softer than usual.

Airi lowered her gaze, holding her breath, but her eyes couldn't leave his.

Shion and Rei watched from a distance, suppressing laughter but clearly caught up in the tension.

Arou took a deep breath, leaning back against the tree, half annoyed, half entertained.

Nova reached out, gently brushing Airi's hair behind her ear.

"You… are stunning. Even when angry, you're beautiful."

Airi swatted his hand away, but her face reddened further.

Nora smiled behind them.

"See? She's reacting. Nailed it, Nova."

Nova held her gaze a moment longer, a playful smile in place, eyes full of attention.

"If you smiled even a little… the world would stop just to see it. And I want to be the only one who gets to."

Airi averted her gaze briefly, breath catching, heart racing. But she refused to smile.

Nova leaned back slightly, satisfied, letting the warmth of the sunset and the tension between them fill the yard.

The cracks in the sky pulsed faintly above, but for now, their little world belonged only to them.
