Friday arrived with a sense of quiet relief.
For Sofia Mirano, the week had felt longer than usual. Not because the work was overwhelming—though it certainly was demanding—but because every day seemed to bring something new she hadn't expected.
New responsibilities.
New pressure.
And new moments with Leo Rivera that she hadn't quite figured out how to interpret.
She stepped into the lobby of Rivera Group early that morning, her heels echoing softly across the marble floor. The receptionist greeted her with a polite nod as she headed for the elevators.
Her phone buzzed.
Lucy.
Sofia smiled before even opening the message.
Lucy:
Happy Friday!
Lucy:
Please tell me you're not working late tonight.
Sofia stepped into the elevator and typed back.
Sofia:
Not tonight.
A second later, Lucy responded.
Lucy:
Good. Because we are going out.
Sofia raised an eyebrow.
Sofia:
We are?
Lucy:
Yes. I need to show you something important.
Sofia smiled.
Lucy always had something exciting planned.
Sofia:
Fine. What time?
Lucy:
Seven. And dress nicely.
Sofia laughed quietly.
Sofia:
Lucy… I always dress nicely.
Lucy:
Not secretary nicely.
Sofia shook her head as the elevator doors opened.
The office floor was already active when she arrived.
Sofia settled at her desk and began organizing the morning schedule.
Leo had several meetings today, but nothing that seemed too intense. Compared to the rest of the week, it almost felt… manageable.
Just as she finished reviewing the files, Leo's office door opened.
He stepped out, looking as composed and sharp as ever.
Dark suit.
Perfect posture.
That quiet authority that seemed to follow him everywhere.
His eyes immediately landed on her.
"Good morning, Miss Mirano."
"Good morning, Mr. Rivera."
Sofia walked into his office with his coffee.
Black.
No sugar.
No cream.
She placed the cup gently on his desk.
Leo took a sip and nodded slightly.
"Thank you."
She placed the day's schedule beside the coffee.
"You have a call with the London office at ten, and the finance team meeting was moved to two."
Leo scanned the schedule briefly.
Then his gaze shifted back to her.
"You seem… less nervous."
Sofia blinked, slightly surprised.
"I suppose I'm getting used to the environment."
Leo leaned back slightly in his chair.
"Good."
For a moment, his eyes lingered on her again, thoughtful.
Then he returned to his laptop.
"Let me know when the London call connects."
"Yes, sir."
The day passed quickly.
Meetings came and went.
Reports were reviewed.
Calls were made.
Sofia moved through each task with calm efficiency.
But every now and then, she caught Leo looking at her.
Not in a way that felt uncomfortable.
Just… observant.
Like he was still figuring something out.
By the time the workday ended, Sofia felt a rare sense of freedom.
No late reports.
No emergency meetings.
Just a normal evening.
She packed her bag and checked her phone.
Lucy had already sent three messages.
Lucy:
Don't forget tonight.
Lucy:
And wear something nice.
Lucy:
Not your office clothes.
Sofia smiled as she typed back.
Sofia:
I'm going home first to change.
Lucy:
Good.
An hour later, Sofia stood in front of her bedroom mirror.
Lucy had been very clear.
"Not secretary nicely."
So Sofia chose something different.
A soft cream-colored dress that fell just above her knees, paired with a light jacket and simple heels. Her hair, usually tied neatly for the office, now fell loosely over her shoulders.
She looked… different.
More relaxed.
More like herself.
Her phone buzzed.
Lucy.
Lucy:
Are you ready?
Sofia:
Almost.
Lucy:
Good. I'm waiting at the café.
The café Lucy had chosen sat on a lively street filled with warm lights and soft music drifting from nearby restaurants.
When Sofia arrived, Lucy immediately waved from a table near the window.
Lucy's eyes widened as Sofia approached.
"Wow."
Sofia laughed.
"What?"
"You look amazing."
Sofia rolled her eyes playfully and sat down.
"It's just a dress."
Lucy leaned forward dramatically.
"No, this is what I mean. This is Sofia outside the office."
Sofia smiled.
Lucy always had a way of making her feel comfortable.
They ordered dinner and began talking about their week.
Lucy pulled out her tablet and showed Sofia a new dress design she had been working on.
The sketch was elegant.
Deep blue fabric with delicate silver accents along the neckline.
Sofia studied it closely.
"Lucy, this is beautiful."
Lucy grinned proudly.
"I thought so too."
They continued talking, laughing quietly together.
But as Sofia glanced toward the café window, something unexpected caught her attention.
Across the street…
A familiar black car slowed near the traffic light.
And behind the wheel—
Leo Rivera.
For a moment, Sofia wasn't even sure it was him.
But then he turned his head slightly.
And their eyes met.
Just for a second.
Leo looked genuinely surprised.
Because the woman sitting in the café window didn't look like his perfectly organized secretary.
Her hair was loose.
Her dress soft and elegant.
Her smile relaxed and warm.
She looked… different.
Beautifully different.
The light turned green.
The car moved forward.
But Leo's gaze lingered just a moment longer before the car disappeared down the street.
Sofia slowly looked back at Lucy.
Lucy tilted her head.
"What?"
Sofia hesitated.
"I think my boss just drove past."
Lucy's eyes widened dramatically.
"Your CEO boss?"
Sofia nodded slowly.
Lucy leaned closer to the window, trying to see outside.
"Well," Lucy said with a mischievous grin, "I hope he noticed you."
Sofia didn't answer.
But deep down, she already knew.
He had.
And Leo Rivera wasn't going to forget what he had just seen.
