Chapter 7 - Chapter 6:After works.

By the time Thursday arrived, Sofia Mirano had begun to settle into the rhythm of Rivera Group.

The mornings were fast.

The afternoons were faster.

And everything seemed to revolve around the quiet, controlled presence of one man.

Leo Rivera.

Sofia stepped out of the elevator that morning with her usual calm expression, though inside she still felt the familiar flutter of anticipation that came with seeing him.

She told herself it was simply because he was her boss.

Nothing more.

Her phone buzzed just as she reached her desk.

Lucy.

Lucy:

Morning!

Lucy:

I have another design idea and I need your opinion later.

Sofia smiled and typed back.

Sofia:

You ask for my opinion on everything.

The reply came instantly.

Lucy:

Because you have taste.

Sofia laughed softly.

Lucy:

Also… any updates on the mysterious CEO?

Sofia sighed dramatically.

Sofia:

Lucy…

Lucy:

I'm just checking.

Sofia slipped the phone back into her bag just as Leo's office door opened.

He stepped out, tall and composed as always, adjusting the cuff of his suit jacket.

His eyes landed on her immediately.

"Good morning, Miss Mirano."

"Good morning, Mr. Rivera."

Sofia stood and walked into his office with his coffee.

Black.

No sugar.

No cream.

He accepted the cup with a small nod.

"The investor reports are ready?" he asked.

"Yes, sir. I placed them on your desk."

Leo glanced at the stack of files.

Efficient. Organized.

Just the way he liked things.

"You've adjusted quickly," he said.

Sofia blinked slightly, surprised.

"Thank you."

He took a sip of the coffee before adding quietly,

"You're becoming indispensable."

The words were simple, but they caught Sofia completely off guard.

"I'm glad to help," she replied softly.

Leo said nothing more, but something thoughtful lingered in his gaze before he returned to his work.

The day moved quickly.

Meetings.

Emails.

Phone calls.

Sofia handled everything with growing confidence, moving between departments and Leo's office with quiet efficiency.

But by the time the evening approached, most employees were already preparing to leave.

One by one, desks emptied.

Lights dimmed.

Conversations faded.

Until only a few people remained.

Sofia was still working through a stack of documents when she glanced at the clock.

7:12 PM.

She exhaled softly.

The quarterly report still needed formatting before tomorrow morning's meeting.

She could finish it… but it would take another hour.

Her phone buzzed again.

Lucy.

Lucy:

Don't tell me you're still at work.

Sofia typed quickly.

Sofia:

Still finishing something.

Lucy:

You work too much.

Sofia:

So does my boss.

Lucy responded immediately.

Lucy:

That's because he's a CEO. What's your excuse?

Sofia smiled and put the phone away.

About twenty minutes later, Leo stepped out of his office.

His tie had been loosened slightly, and he carried another set of reports in his hand.

He paused when he saw Sofia still at her desk.

"You're still here."

Sofia looked up.

"Yes. I'm finishing the quarterly report."

Leo glanced at the clock.

"It can wait until tomorrow."

Sofia shook her head lightly.

"I'd rather finish it tonight."

He studied her for a moment.

Determined.

Focused.

Very different from most employees who rushed out the moment the clock struck five.

Leo nodded slightly.

"I'll review the financial summary while you finish."

With that, he returned to his office.

Another forty minutes passed.

The office was now almost completely silent.

The city lights outside the windows glowed softly against the dark sky.

Sofia finally leaned back in her chair with a quiet sigh.

Finished.

She gathered the final pages and walked to Leo's office.

He looked up as she knocked.

"Yes?"

"The report is ready."

She placed the document on his desk.

Leo opened the folder and scanned the pages quickly.

The formatting was clean.

The numbers aligned perfectly.

He closed the folder.

"Good work."

Sofia felt a small wave of relief.

"Thank you."

For a moment neither of them spoke.

Then Sofia noticed something.

The sound of rain.

Soft at first.

Then stronger.

She glanced toward the window.

Rain was pouring heavily across the city.

Leo followed her gaze.

"Looks like you'll be waiting a while for a taxi."

Sofia sighed softly.

"Probably."

Leo stood and walked toward the window.

The rain streaked down the glass in long silver lines.

"You don't have a car?"

"No. I usually take taxis."

He turned back toward her.

"I'll drive you."

Sofia blinked.

"You don't have to—"

"It's on my way."

His voice was calm.

Direct.

Not a suggestion.

An offer.

Sofia hesitated for a moment.

Then nodded.

"Thank you."

A few minutes later, they were walking through the quiet lobby of the building together.

The rain outside was still heavy, tapping loudly against the glass doors.

Leo opened a large black umbrella as they stepped outside.

The air smelled fresh and cool.

Sofia stayed close beside him under the umbrella as they crossed the parking area.

For the first time since she started working there, she was seeing Leo outside the office.

Without the desk.

Without the meetings.

Just… him.

He unlocked a sleek black car and opened the passenger door for her.

Sofia slid inside, slightly nervous but strangely comfortable.

Leo walked around to the driver's side and started the engine.

The city lights reflected across the wet streets as they drove.

For a few minutes, the car remained quiet except for the sound of rain.

Then Leo spoke.

"You work very hard."

Sofia looked at him.

"I enjoy what I do."

"And working here?"

"Yes."

She smiled slightly.

"It's challenging."

Leo nodded.

"Good."

Another moment passed before he added quietly,

"I value people who take their work seriously."

Sofia felt warmth rise in her chest again.

"Thank you."

When the car finally stopped outside her apartment building, the rain had softened to a gentle drizzle.

Sofia turned to him.

"Thank you for the ride."

Leo gave a small nod.

"You're welcome."

She opened the door, then paused.

"Good night, Mr. Rivera."

"Good night, Miss Mirano."

Sofia stepped out and walked toward the building entrance.

But just before she went inside, she glanced back.

Leo was still there.

Watching to make sure she got inside safely.

She smiled faintly before disappearing into the building.

And as Leo drove away through the quiet rain-soaked streets, one thought lingered in his mind.

Sofia Mirano was becoming more than just his secretary.

And he wasn't entirely sure how he felt about that.

Yet.
