Chapter 18 - 18

I just don't want to see you die or get hurt. Alright, enough of that, we should head back now. Listen to me, don't come here alone unless absolutely necessary." Eddie started walking back.

"If I come, I'll ask you to come with me." Ada's attitude towards Eddie had changed, at least becoming a bit more sincere. It was Eddie who taught her how to identify the weaknesses of bio-weapons; these zombified monsters weren't truly terrifying, only the fear of the unknown was.

Chapter 29: Annette's Astonishing Discovery!

After returning to Raccoon City with Suzuki Yoko, Eddie still had a special small magnetic card. This card had a large capacity, capable of storing a vast amount of knowledge. It also came with a program that could secretly steal reserves from Umbrella's computers, requiring only Suzuki Yoko's remote control.

Ada left to find her next target. She wouldn't leave until she obtained samples of the T-Virus and G-Virus.

Beneath the Arklay Mountains, Umbrella's secretly established The Hive Laboratory was hidden. From here, secret passages led to the Executive Training Center.

Spencer, though old and frail, still had a sharp mind. He wore glasses as he reviewed the data uploaded by Sergei. The experimental data Eddie provided was indeed excellent and very helpful for his immortality project. It seemed Alex's report was not wrong; Eddie truly had a talent for research.

"Eddie? A good pawn indeed, but it's a pity you're Marcus's man. What a shame, what a shame!" Spencer shook his head from his wheelchair. Precisely because he had ordered Wesker and William to kill Marcus, no matter how talented Eddie was, he couldn't be given a position of importance.

"Should I eliminate him?" Sergei didn't hesitate. He was loyal only to Spencer, who had given him a chance at employment. Otherwise, as a retired general, he had no other survival skills and would have been discarded by time.

"No, keep him. Let him test data for other biological weapons." Spencer shook his head. Killing such a talent would be a waste. Since he hadn't been discovered, let him continue to shine.

The Hive Laboratory housed a large number of scientists conducting research and development. Just today, a team led by Hunk, the Grim Reaper, escorted a large frozen cabinet to Raccoon City.

The latest research data from the French Branch was delivered, hailed as the pinnacle of the Tyrant series: a product of the Nemesis Project, the Nemesis!

Because Spencer was in Raccoon City, the French Branch sent the sample, hoping for more resource allocation and also to mock their counterparts. These fools were still stuck in the prototype stage.

In the underground laboratory in Raccoon City, Annette finished her vaccine research and went to William's room. At this point, William practically ate, drank, and slept in the laboratory, and his room was covered in a layer of dust.

The sensitive Annette, enhanced by the serum, discovered an unusual spot. It was a secret compartment. She had originally intended to tidy up the room but instead found this hidden space.

For reasons she couldn't quite grasp, Annette opened the secret compartment. Inside was a diary, which appeared to be William's past life records.

"April 1988, Chairman Spencer instructed Albert and me to act together to seize Professor Marcus's research findings. That old fool probably had no idea we had already pledged allegiance to Spencer. A stubborn old man, he didn't even leave behind the latest T-Virus research data. Damn him!"

Annette was incredibly surprised after reading this passage. She never imagined her husband would murder a distant relative of his friend, and his own mentor at that! This was utterly inhuman!

Her sense of indebtedness to Eddie grew. Annette couldn't imagine what she would do if Eddie found out. Would she side with William or with Eddie? Her mind was in turmoil.

Knock, knock, knock. It seemed someone was approaching the room. Annette quickly put the diary back and nimbly leaped onto a three-meter-high ventilation duct, leaving through it.

Meanwhile, after returning to Raccoon City, Eddie said goodbye to Suzuki Yoko and then returned to his laboratory. His cell phone rang. "What is it?"

On the other end was a crisp female voice, Wolf Mom Karena. "Eddie, we still need another month to return to Raccoon City. Be careful yourself. Also, if you have time, please transfer some funds to Sri. Thanks."

"I understand. I'll send her the money. You be careful too." Eddie nodded.

"Don't worry about me. Just take care of yourself and don't die. Wait for me to come back. Christine Yamata and the others can be trusted now. Everything else is fine." Wolf Mom Karena delivered good news.

"Good, when you return, I have good news for you." Eddie smiled. He always had patience for this capable woman.

"Sri said she wants to visit you in Raccoon City. What do you think?" Karena suddenly asked a question.

Eddie, however, didn't catch the underlying meaning. "No, Raccoon City isn't safe these days. Have her go somewhere safer, maybe travel to the East."

"Alright, you said it. I'm really looking forward to your surprise." Karena chuckled heartily. Test passed, not bad!

After hanging up the phone, Eddie returned to the laboratory. This time, he was there to finish the weapons he was making. If all went as expected, he would be transferred to the S.T.A.R.S.. He wondered if he would be assigned to the same team as his girlfriend, Jill.

Just as he finished reinforcing a special weapon, the laboratory door opened. Annette walked in, her iconic high heels clicking, her expression somewhat downcast.

"What's wrong, Annette?" Eddie was a bit bewildered. Was she going for a romance novel plot?

"I'm sorry!" Annette whispered.

"Sorry for what? What are you saying? Are you going crazy from not eating enough?" Eddie took out a burger he was carrying and offered it to her.

Annette shook her head. "Eddie, I'm going to tell you something, but you can't get angry. Promise me you won't get angry or lose your temper, okay?"

Eddie was very curious. He crossed his arms and said, "Alright, I promise you."

Annette took a few deep breaths before beginning. "I just read William's diary. He and Albert Wesker were instructed by Spencer to participate in the murder of Dr. Marcus in '88. I'm sorry, I never thought he would be involved in this."

"Oh, I see." Eddie nodded, then began to pack his weapons and simultaneously retrieve some medical data, mixing a special nutrient solution.

Eddie's reaction surprised Annette. Was that all? "Aren't you angry?"

"What good would my anger do? Too many people are involved in this. If I got angry, would you divorce him?" Eddie teased.

Annette was a bit embarrassed. "What, what are you saying?" She lowered her head, not enraged, but rather a little shy.

Eddie, however, tilted his head and said in a strange tone, "What are you thinking? What I meant was, if you divorced him, I wouldn't have any psychological burden killing him. I'm not killing him not because I don't want to, but out of consideration for you."

Annette was touched. This friend was truly exceptional. "Thank you, but I hope I can compensate you. I'll do anything you want, or what do you want?"

Eddie smiled and walked over. "You said it, don't regret it!"

Chapter 30: Assuming Office! Bravo Team!

When Eddie arrived to take up his post with the Tactical Force, Svetlana, the special training instructor, was still training the Tactical Force. Even Wesker was in the training team, being trained despite being the captain.

In the office, Chief Brian greeted Eddie. "Welcome, welcome, welcome Eddie to your new post."

"Don't be so formal. I'm just here for a bit of a resume boost. What's my position?" Eddie skillfully took a passed envelope.

Brian also skillfully took it and placed it under his keyboard. "Your position is Evidence Researcher for Bravo Team. You'll use medicine to reconstruct crime scenes. Enjoy this trip."

Clearly, Brian knew Eddie was just playing around and had no intention of working hard. The other party was a senior research director at Umbrella. By maintaining a good relationship with him, he could earn more extra income.

"Then I might have many things to trouble the Chief with in the future." Eddie nodded and smiled.

"Haha, no problem, no problem. If anything comes up, you can tell me, and I'll definitely handle it perfectly for you." Brian laughed heartily, also making a money gesture, meaning that money could get things done.

"Then I'll go say hello to my teammates first. By the way, I'm curious, why would you hire a Russian to be an instructor?" Eddie was puzzled as to why Svetlana would appear in Raccoon City.

"That's sponsored by the Umbrella Corporation. It's said that Svetlana was a champion in the World Fighting Championships." Brian explained, it wasn't a secret anyway. Since someone else was paying, he was naturally happy to oblige.

Eddie was thoughtful. Could it be that Umbrella's higher-ups had planned this long ago? Was it Spencer's plan or Sergei's?

At the Training Facility, the month-long special training concluded. Wesker clapped his hands. "Everyone, today we welcome a new member, a senior researcher from Umbrella. His professional knowledge can help us medically reconstruct crime scenes to find the true culprit. Eddie, please give a brief self-introduction."

Jill was very surprised. She didn't know why her boyfriend would be transferred from Umbrella. Despite the surprise, her beautiful eyes were full of smiles. She certainly wouldn't refuse to be with the man she loved.

"Everyone, I previously worked at Umbrella. Chief Brian invited me multiple times to join the Tactical Force, wanting me to use my knowledge to reconstruct crime scenes. Now I've been transferred here, so please guide me in the future. I forgot to mention my name, I'm Eddie Cai!" Eddie smiled.

"Eddie will be assigned to Bravo Team. That's your team leader, Enrico. You can get to know the other team members privately. Alright, the new member has arrived, and today's training is over." Wesker finished speaking and turned to leave. He didn't want too much contact with these people, so he wouldn't feel bad when using them.

"You're Eddie. Very good, very strong. I'm Team Leader Enrico. Welcome to our family." Enrico greeted him with a smile. As an old hand who had worked at the police station for twenty years, he had rich combat experience and a strong sense of justice.
