"Cut the crap. How do I know if you're for real? I could say I'm from the Federal Intelligence Agency. Let's get down to business." Hunk finished speaking and shot a cup on the laboratory table where Jettingham was hiding, shattering it.
Just as both sides were fighting fiercely, a stumbling figure walked in. It was the short, fat Chief Brian, holding a pistol, his face pale, coughing occasionally, and with bite marks on his body.
Jettingham raised his hand. This was a high-ranking official from Raccoon City; he had read the files. He signaled his team not to attack the man.
Hunk also ordered a cease-fire. He had witnessed Sergei and Brian's conversation and knew this guy was allied with the company's people, both having been bribed.
"Eddie! Where the hell did you go? Didn't we agree you'd save me when I got to the hospital? Damn it, damn it. It hurts so much, ah, Umbrella, these beasts!" Brian cursed incessantly.
These words caught the attention of the Echo Six Team members. It was that Eddie again. They heard he had already developed a vaccine. Many colleagues on the frontline needed this vaccine for treatment, but why hadn't they sought him out? Could it be that another team was responsible for it?
Caroline's beautiful eyes flickered a few times. It was news about her man again. It seemed no one in Raccoon City was unconnected to him.
"Huh, who are you people!" Brian discovered the Echo Six Team members and pointed his gun at them.
"We are the Marine Corps' Echo Team, here on a mission. Chief, please step aside. There are Umbrella armed operatives here." Jettingham had to warn him. He was truly foolish, wasting time here.
"Umbrella's people? They must know where the vaccine is, ah!" Brian began to twitch, collapsing to his knees. A G-larva then devoured Brian's flesh and burst out, growing into a monster in a short amount of time.
"Open fire!" Jettingham didn't hesitate, quickly raising his gun and firing.
The G-adult was forced to flee. The newly formed monster was still very fragile and needed time to gain combat effectiveness.
The direction of escape was towards Hunk's position. Hunk had no choice but to pull out a grenade, blasting the monster back, and then began attacking with his submachine gun.
Brian's death and the monster's formation happened in an instant. This prompted the Echo Six Team and Hunk's team to join forces and attack the monsters first, working together to eliminate the non-human creatures before resuming their internal conflict.
The G-Monster's vitality was extremely tenacious. Even a monster grown from a larva possessed considerable destructive power, and could even spit out larvae to attack, though these larvae were very fragile, dying almost instantly if stepped on.
The combined attack of both sides lasted for ten minutes. The powerful suppressive fire killed the newly formed monster.
At this point, some Zombie Dogs and Raging Zombies began to swarm them. Some zombies entered the hospital from the street, seeking refuge from the sun while also beginning to attack the hidden survivors.
"Hey! Over there, we need to unite now. Whatever you want to do, if we don't unite now and continue to fight, it's a dead end." Jettingham shouted.
"A temporary alliance. If you act against us, don't blame me for being impolite." Hunk didn't hesitate. Death God wasn't unafraid of death, but rather because he could always rationally use surrounding resources to survive. Simply put, he was just an ordinary person.
The battle outside the laboratory saw both sides constantly retreating into a laboratory room, closing the door to prevent further zombie invasion and attacks.
They were temporarily safe, but no one could guarantee how long this safety would last.
"Now we can talk." Jettingham put down his submachine gun, signaling he had no ill intentions.
Hunk also put his submachine gun behind him and raised his hands, but did not remove his helmet. "What do you want?"
"Do you know who caused this? This is Umbrella's doing! We have obtained some information. Why are you helping Umbrella!" Jettingham questioned.
"We are just mercenaries, paid to resolve problems." Hunk said indifferently.
"There's an opportunity now. I can help clear your names, but you need to assist us, or even join my team. Your combat strength is very strong; you don't need to help those lawbreakers." Jettingham suggested.
Recruitment was a given; talent would always be discovered if useful. If they were useless, they might as well die; living would just be a waste of food.
"Sorry, this can happen later, but not now. My family is under Umbrella's surveillance. Betraying them is equivalent to abandoning my family's safety." Hunk explained.
As the most elite USS unit under Umbrella, they received the highest salaries and used the best equipment. To prevent them from leaking secrets, their families would be controlled by Umbrella, which was normal, unless they were single. Single individuals would be restricted by other means.
"That is indeed a problem, but you forget, we are professionals. Rescuing hostages is our specialty. We can rescue your family, if you agree." Jettingham suggested. As a captain, he had to consider everything, and Hunk was also a top special forces operative. If he could join, it would certainly increase the team's survival rate.
Chapter 230: Lack of Self-Control
As Hunk's assistant, Lone Wolf was somewhat dismissive. Hunk's nickname, Death God, wasn't for nothing; being his teammate might mean not even knowing how you died.
"This matter can wait until my mission is complete. If I can't make it back alive, everything is meaningless." Hunk did not agree.
"That's fine. We can still rescue your family afterward, if you wish." Jettingham suggested, not giving up.
"Alright, I'll contact you then. Give me your contact information." Hunk nodded.
"What about you two gentlemen?" Jettingham turned and asked.
"We listen to our captain." Lone Wolf and Ghost had no objections.
Sienna was operating a computer in the lab. "I have good news for you. There's a small food storage room here, enough for our supplies. The bad news is that most of the zombies have poured into the building, and our living space might be further compressed."
"That's truly terrible news." Marisa wailed. Her personality was relatively optimistic; her bright red short hair showed that women who dyed their hair this color were usually passionate, cheerful, and easy to talk to.
"Zombies are also afraid of light? What does Hunk know about zombies and those monsters, having worked for Umbrella for so long?" Jettingham took out a can of mineral water and drank it.
Hunk looked at them. "You'd better go back and see if there's a vaccine. The mineral water you're drinking might be poisoned. After a period of incubation, you might turn into zombies."
"What!" Bala, the virus expert, looked at the mineral water in confusion.
"Don't worry, if I'm not mistaken, Dr. Eddie, who developed the vaccine, is also in the underground laboratory. We can definitely ask him to develop a vaccine for us, so we don't have to worry about infection. Even if we don't eat or drink, we can't last that long." Sienna smiled, as if she had discovered some secret.
Meanwhile, Ada had already woken up. As soon as she awoke, she was attacked by Eddie. The berserk Eddie seemed unable to distinguish teammates.
Three hours later, Eddie regained consciousness. Ada and Svetlana were sitting opposite each other. Both women elegantly held coffee, and there were some hamburgers on the table.
"Can these hamburgers be eaten?" Eddie felt very hungry.
Jessica nodded. "Yes, they are food found outside, edible."
Eddie quickly devoured the food. He was very curious why Ada and Svetlana weren't speaking. "What's wrong with you two? Are you full, or can't you eat?"
Ada said with a half-smile, "I can't eat. You've made me too angry to eat. I've repaid all I owed you, yet you lied to me, saying you didn't know about the G-Virus!"
"I didn't lie to you. I just didn't want to give it to you. I don't want to fund a love rival." Eddie explained righteously.
"Pfft! He's not a love rival, just an employer. And now, with Raccoon City like this, do you think there are fewer G-Virus samples flowing out? Isn't it smart to sell one while it's still valuable?" Ada sounded somewhat exasperated.
Svetlana's expression remained calm. A scar was left on her back, the price for the power she gained. It was hard to say if it was good or bad; at least she really couldn't wear a bikini anymore.
"Alright, I'll find the corresponding materials to make one for you. I can't give you the vaccine." Eddie also compromised. Ada was right; in the future, whether it was the G-Virus or the T-Virus, you could basically buy it if you wanted, the difference being the price.
"Our strength seems to have increased a lot. Is this because of the G-Virus?" Svetlana suddenly asked a question.
Eddie also frowned. "Hold on, let me check some data first."
After browsing Umbrella's data, Eddie felt very puzzled because when the vaccine was first made, William conducted brief tests. Many test subjects died after receiving the vaccine for a while.
Not a single one survived to gain superpowers, and not everyone was like Eddie, nor did they have Sherry's luck to gain some G-Virus enhancement and rapid healing abilities.
There would always be a few lucky individuals, but most people were just cannon fodder, poor cannon fodder.
"Our situation is quite special. With the T-Virus as a base, our physical endurance has increased by a level." As Eddie spoke of endurance, he seemed to notice Ada and Svetlana both looking somewhat angry, which puzzled him.
"Keep talking, why did you stop?" Svetlana snorted.
