The iron gate creaked with a soft, grating sound.
As the load reached its limit, the iron door was completely pushed outwards, breaking away from where it was embedded in the wall, and then thrown forward with force.
With a loud clang, the large iron door, wide enough for six people, crashed down, a display of strength and showmanship that left people speechless.
"How crude!" Moira frowned, but when Eddie looked over, she gave a thumbs-up. "But I like this kind of crudeness."
"Let's go, stop daydreaming. We need to hurry; I don't want to eat dinner here." Eddie continued to scout ahead, a triumphant expression on his face. Showing off like this was quite thrilling and satisfying.
Ada had been cross-referencing the map and acting as a guide the entire way. After last night's events, she was very calm today, a little languid, and not particularly keen on moving.
As the group prepared to reach the dining hall, in another direction, several people were being chased by Zombies and Zombie Dogs. Five men and one woman, all with traces of blood on them, though it was unclear if it was from the Zombies or themselves.
Whoosh! A Zombie Dog quickly tackled a man, then immediately began to bite him. Subsequent Zombie Dogs joined in the biting, and the man, who had initially struggled, quickly lost all signs of life.
"Ode!" A man angrily grabbed an iron shovel and struck a Zombie Dog. Although he managed to drive one away, he was quickly overwhelmed by a surging tide of Zombies.
A White man in a suit ran while shouting, "Please help us, thank you."
Claire looked and said, "Eddie, I don't think that man is a bad person. I received an email from Leon before; he said he had a friend who was a private detective, and he also seemed to have gone missing after investigating Umbrella's evidence. He looks similar to the person in the photo."
"Then let them hide in the building; we don't have time to deal with them." Eddie picked up a handgun that had been hanging from a deceased guard Zombie and fired a shot at a Zombie Dog that was running to chase the others.
Bang! A single shot, a direct hit. With his eyes fixed on the Zombies, his evolved vision allowed him to see far, making it no difficult task to blow up a fast-moving Zombie Dog.
Clang, Ada pulled out a grenade, pulled the pin, and threw it directly. The grenade flew an exaggerated distance of three hundred meters, exploding precisely at the designated time.
The explosion caused two walls to collapse, and the fallen bricks and tiles blocked the path. This level of precise control was unparalleled.
Originally, several people had escaped together, but now only three remained: two men and one woman. The woman was pale and somewhat frail, appearing undernourished.
"Thank you, thank you, you saved us, I am…" The man's words were interrupted by Eddie.
"Now is not the time for such things. Let's go to the place we need to see first." Eddie waved his hand.
"The restaurant door is locked. This is where Umbrella's guards and staff eat, so we can't get in," the frail girl said.
The restaurant's main door was locked, bolted from the inside, and also secured with two large alloy padlocks on the outside handles.
"Can't open it? There's no door I can't open in front of me." Eddie said, then immediately delivered a kick.
The crude method of opening the door, the immense strength, and the explosive force directly sent the alloy door flying outwards. Even the Zombies wandering inside were knocked flying and crushed by the door.
Such an exaggerated scene left the three of them dumbfounded. What the hell was going on?
Chapter 310: Android Army
"You guys follow along. If you don't move, the Zombies will catch up." Claire shook her head helplessly, only able to remind the three stunned individuals.
After entering the restaurant, Moira pulled up the iron door, which weighed at least a ton, yet she handled it with great ease. In just a few movements, she re-secured the iron door and pulled over a heavy bar counter to block and support it.
The restaurant still contained a large number of Zombies. From their attire, some of these Zombies were residents of the island, while others were researchers here, all of whom had died without exception.
The restaurant was enormous. It was unclear why an island would have such a large restaurant.
"Something's not right with this restaurant; it's so big. Are there really that many people on this island?" Eddie wondered.
"Yes, but the restaurant isn't open to the public. Part of it is used for food processing. Many residents work here, and the pay here is also the highest," the frail girl said.
The group arrived at a VIP private room. "Alright, it's safe here. Now you can tell us who you really are. State your identities clearly, and then we'll discuss other matters." Eddie crossed his arms, his gaze unfriendly.
"My name is Lotte, and this is my sister Lily. He's an outsider who came to investigate Umbrella's facilities on the island, and now he seems to have amnesia. My sister and I are residents of Sheena Island. Thank you for saving us. Everyone has turned into man-eating monsters. About half a month ago, we don't know what happened." The man shook his head, looking pained.
"Did someone attack this island?" Ada frowned.
"We don't know. We only know there seemed to be an explosion, and then no one thought it was strange. The facility would have some explosions and monster howls every day. The mayor's explanation was that they were filming a movie, and this was Umbrella's chemical plant and filming base," Lily added.
"It's likely that something caused an internal disturbance, which then spread the T-Virus. Is your drinking water natural spring water or tap water?" Christine analyzed on her wrist-mounted computer, a new and improved version that Suzuki Yoko had helped her modify.
Ada looked on with some envy. She actually quite liked the team atmosphere of Eddie's group; at least someone was in charge of logistics, which provided great security for adventurous women like them.
"The residents on the island all drink tap water, but we're relatively poor and can't afford the water bill, so we can only fetch mountain spring water with our father," Lotte said, lowering his head a little sheepishly.
"Poverty is nothing to be ashamed of. I was poor once, and I'm still poor now. Be confident; you might not be poor in the future." Eddie suddenly offered some inspirational words, then observed the two carefully.
"You two don't seem to have the potential to mutate into Zombies, like those walking dead outside. You stay here. We still have things to do. If we have time, we'll come back for you." Eddie finished speaking and was ready to depart.
At this moment, the somewhat confused detective Ark took out a magnetic card. "Wait, this is a magnetic card for the underground research facility; it can be used to open doors. I remember now. I received a commission from a client to collect information on his wife's work environment here, to see if his wife was cheating."
"You know Leon?" Eddie suddenly asked.
"Leon? Of course, we were college classmates. He went to Raccoon City to take up his post after graduating from the police academy. I couldn't stand that atmosphere, so I came out on my own to be a private detective. I prefer freedom." Ark calmly recounted his past.
"You still have combat capability, right? Protect these two survivors; we have a mission to do. This is a Federation secret; don't ask about it, and don't tell anyone. Can you do that?" Eddie said sternly.
"Thank you. Although I'm laid-back, I also have my professional ethics. My uncle Kevin is a police officer in Raccoon City. If I have any problems, you can go find him," Ark said, patting his muscles to assure him.
"No wonder. But let me tell you something, Raccoon City has already been nuked. It's the same as here, turned into a living hell. Your uncle is fine; I saved him. If you have time, remember to treat me to a meal." Eddie finished speaking, left the gun and magazines he had picked up earlier for them, and then left the restaurant with the women.
"Haha, absolutely!" Ark seemed to recall something else and pulled out a memory card, handing it over. "Wait, these are some materials about the island's facilities that I collected. Take them; I hope they're helpful."
Eddie took the memory card and tossed it to Christine, then locked the door. "Just stay put and be quiet. There's still food inside, enough for you to last a few hours."
Christine began to examine the memory card. Inside was a panoramic map of the underground facility beneath the island. "This is the facility map. What we need should be eighty meters underground. There are many cultivation tanks here, likely for cultivating Tyrant prototypes."
With the map, the group entered through a hidden elevator in the restaurant. Although there were stairs, there was no need for them; the facility here was still very well-preserved.
The elevator arrived at fifty meters underground. Going further down required authorization.
Christine was trying hard to crack the authorization. "It still needs a little time, about ten minutes."
"Then let's go out and take a look first. Can you crack it while walking?" Eddie asked.
"No problem." Christine followed him out of the elevator.
It was a bit messy here. It seemed the experimenters had all turned into Zombies, and there were also some strange creatures, twisted monsters that seemed to be a genetic combination of fish and humans.
In the distance, there were bursts of gunfire, seemingly indicating an intense battle, and a human voice was shouting.
Sneaking closer, they could see a group of elite soldiers forming a battle line at the gate guarding the stairs. They held riot shields, and the personnel behind them, armed with assault rifles, were working hard to take down the continuous stream of attacking Zombies.
Christine scanned with a special instrument before whispering, "Those are special androids. They should be Umbrella's cannon fodder troops, their latest invention."
The android troops were not the silicone items sold online, but humans created using cloning technology, without brains, controlled only by computer chips. At the same time, a substance that would melt and explode was made using the T-Virus. Upon completion of a mission or death, a special setting would trigger, causing them to self-destruct or melt, destroying evidence.
Chapter 311: A Heavy Punch from Eddie
"Yoko has connected. She and January have already cracked the facility's systems here. We should return!" Christine said, looking at her wrist computer.
