Cherreads

Chapter 298 - 298

General Morgan was almost laughed into anger. "Will you accept being taken advantage of?"

"Definitely not, but Eddie is very rich. When he returns to the Federation, he'll sue me until I'm bankrupt!" Rachel said in a calm tone, carrying a hint of mockery, sounding nothing like she was worried about herself.

"It's fine, he doesn't have the ability to touch someone from my Federal Bio-Terrorism Countermeasure unit. You monitor him closely. If he makes any unusual moves, tell me immediately." General Morgan could only rely on his ace agent, who was usually neither servile nor overbearing and rarely showed a pleasant expression to anyone.

"Now that you mention it, he really has been acting a bit unusual." Rachel's tone held a trace of oddity.

General Morgan's heart skipped a beat. Could the matter of him colluding with the Greyhound Organization to attack Terragrigia have been exposed? "What is it?"

Rachel lit a cigarette and exhaled smoke. "Eddie brought his female bodyguard to the hotel. It looks like he's trying to take advantage of her. Don't you think this guy is sick? With so many Hunters and monsters here, doesn't he know how dangerous it is right now? Ha, men. I've had enough. If I stick with a lunatic like him, he'll get me killed."

To prevent her husband Eddie's whereabouts from being discovered, Rachel just spoke nonsense about everything and anything. Since Eddie already had a bad reputation, if she threw dirt on him now, no one would disbelieve it.

General Morgan was startled. He thought it was something serious. What the hell was there to talk about regarding taking advantage of someone? "You don't need to worry about that. Just try your best to ensure his safety and escort him back. If something happens to him, just document the scene well, and your responsibility will be greatly reduced."

After hanging up the phone, Rachel was patted on the back. Eddie said fiercely, "You dare to slander me, hmph. It looks like you really want to be taken advantage of. Go check if the data transfer is complete. We should leave."

Rachel rolled her eyes, looking very playful. No one else could see such a strange expression from her; only her man could appreciate her charm and beauty. "Wasn't I just buying you time? Hehe, I even gave birth to your daughter, hmph. Please note that I am your wife, so watch your tone when you speak."

On the other side, the followers of the Church of Light arrived at the Yacht, laden with supplies filled with cash and gold bars.

Pope Sadler still held several captured Leakers, and in his hand were two vials of scarlet T-Abyss Virus. These new types of monsters were very useful for his experiments.

The parasites were already formidable, but what he lacked now were high-end combat forces and talent.

Just then, a burly figure walked over from a distance. He had a hideous scar on his left arm, and half of his face was covered in wounds. The originally handsome and unrestrained man had become savage and terrifying.

"Pope, I have seized all the funds here, and I have also looted half of the armory," the savage man said.

"Very good, you have proven your loyalty. Krauser, I am very satisfied. Continue to complete my trials, and I will give you the highest reward—the power you have always desired!" Sadler laughed ferociously, and a tentacle waved beneath his robe, making it incredibly disgusting.

Chapter 488: Strange Threats Increased

Five hours later, Eddie returned to the Conference Building with Rachel. Some of the political representatives here had already evacuated via Yacht, but many more representatives had not yet left.

During the recent evacuation, ten regional representatives were attacked, and the entire escort team was wiped out. The attacker was Nemesis. The elusive Nemesis used guerrilla tactics, striking and then fleeing, making it impossible to track its movements.

When this nightmarish news arrived, all the regional representatives gave up the idea of escaping. Those representatives who had managed to escape by chance must have been celebrating with firecrackers.

"Are you saying we're now trapped in this damn place and can't get out?" a representative from the Middle East was angrily questioning the staff.

General Morgan walked over, highly displeased, and grabbed the man's collar. "If you're unhappy, you can talk to me. Don't take your anger out on my subordinates, you trash. If you don't want to wait, I can give you a gun, and you can go out yourself. The ships are waiting right at the edge of the city. Do you dare?"

The Middle East representative who was being questioned turned pale and then purple, clearly unable to bear the humiliation. "You! I will impeach you to the United Nations!"

"Oh really? The BSAA is under my command, and you want to impeach me?" General Morgan pushed away the representative, who reeked of money, and ignored him.

Although Terragrigia was still in a state of mass panic, the situation was temporarily under control. The Joint Fleet had already arrived and was setting up defenses on the periphery, arresting all speculators who tried to profit from the disaster. If they resisted, they were shot dead; there was no time for nonsense during wartime.

The Conference Building could still expect excellent security protection. The Marine Corps used assault boats for landing operations, constructing defensive lines here to prevent the escape of the bio-monsters.

With the deployment of troops, more Federal Bio-Terrorism Countermeasure soldiers were dispatched to this living hell for rescue operations.

The number of troops the BSAA could mobilize had reached its limit. They didn't have many main forces themselves, relying entirely on people like Chris to sustain operations.

Meanwhile, Claire had established a large Isolation Refugee Camp twenty kilometers away from the company to rescue the victims of this incident.

Her long-term rescue work had led magazines to name Claire one of the most beautiful women. Kind and loving—whoever could marry such a woman truly had smoke rising from their ancestral graves.

In the Conference Building's restaurant, Eddie was happily smoking a cigarette and eating lunch. Outside was still a living hell, but it was much better now; at least there were no human screams, only patchy bloodstains and burned vehicles testifying to the nearby disaster scene.

Lisa was still resting; she was exhausted. When it came to her work, she simply could not refuse, nor would she. Therefore, Jessica was serving as the bodyguard. There would always be a beautiful bodyguard by the man's side to ensure his safety.

Jessica stood gracefully behind Eddie in high heels, wearing a specialized gas mask. Only her beautiful, clear blue eyes could be seen through the transparent glass. Her eyes were icy cold. Even without seeing her full face, those beautiful eyes alone were enough to tell that she was a peerless beauty!

Ye Minzhi was also sitting opposite Eddie, smoking a cigarette. She had changed into casual clothes paired with eight-centimeter high heels. This outfit allowed her to maintain her charm while also being able to flee quickly in an emergency.

"Eddie, you went out for a stroll yesterday. Did you find anything?" Ye Minzhi asked with a smiling expression, a glass of red wine placed in front of her.

"Yes, there's a new type of virus, though I don't know what it's called yet. But the infected turn into squishy Slime Monsters, capable of emerging from ventilation ducts, and their skeletons can change at any time. So you'd better be careful—it might suddenly appear in the restroom!" Eddie chuckled mischievously.

Ye Minzhi did not blush but instead fell into contemplation. "As far as I know, the Greyhound Organization used to be an environmental protection group. They don't have the capability or the financial resources to develop a new virus."

Just then, General Morgan walked over. "So someone provided them with these criminal tools, is that right?"

Ye Minzhi said with a half-smile, "I never said that. It's just a suspicion. Anything is possible. Maybe some of them are world-class billionaires?"

General Morgan nodded and pulled out a Folder. "These are materials collected by my intelligence officer. The evidence shows that many wealthy individuals are funding the Greyhound Organization, and some might even be members of the organization!"

Eddie waved his hand, embracing Jessica who was seated, and picked up his wine glass, saying playfully, "I think Sir Morgan is mistaken. I am just a businessman and do not involve myself with these things. Even if you have evidence, it has nothing to do with me. You've come to the wrong person. This evidence should be handed over to the International Court of Justice."

Ye Minzhi also nodded and said with a smile, "Exactly. We are just businessmen, not Punishers. These matters are not something we can influence."

"I am simply telling you that you will serve as witnesses. In court, you will testify against these people so they receive the punishment they deserve!" General Morgan said with a serious expression.

"Forget it. Let others be the heroes of justice; I have no interest in that. I don't even know who they are. You can find someone else; don't come looking for me." Eddie waved his hand. He wasn't going to be used as a pawn.

"You won't consider it?" General Morgan narrowed his eyes, a dangerous glint flashing through them.

Eddie flicked his cigarette ash and said mockingly, completely unconcerned, "Forget you. Even if Simmons came right in front of me, I wouldn't agree. Are you trying to threaten me?"

General Morgan suddenly burst into laughter. "Not at all! How could I possibly threaten a renowned medical expert? I'm merely suggesting. Ms. Ye, what is your opinion?"

"You can communicate with our company headquarters. I can't make decisions on this matter; I'm just an employee. Please don't make things difficult for a little woman like me, old sir." Ye Minzhi cheerfully passed the buck, proving she was a non-stick pan when it came to trouble.

General Morgan grunted unhappily. "I have other matters to attend to. Please excuse me."

Watching General Morgan go find the other regional Senators, Eddie sneered coldly.

"It seems you don't think highly of him either." Ye Minzhi suddenly laughed.

"I'm not interested in this stuff, I'm just curious. The number of monsters keeps increasing. Yesterday, over three thousand Hunters were killed, yet the whole city still has so many Hunters today. That's very puzzling." Eddie looked out the window. He could clearly see a massive Cruise Ship anchored near the city's coast.

Chapter 489: City Sterilization Operation

Two days later, most of the troops had fully assembled in the city of Terragrigia, along with Heavy Tanks transported by sea. Nemesis was also located. Large weapons were used to corner Nemesis, guiding it into a designated blast radius.

As the fuse was ignited, a deafening sound erupted, and Nemesis, along with the Alpha Parasite embedded in its body, was reduced to fragments. The city's foundation was blown through, leaving a crater more than ten meters wide at the blast site.

It seemed Nemesis had been eliminated. If it survived being ambushed and launched into the sky by nearly a ton of explosives, it would only prove the poor quality of the explosives, not the tenacious vitality of Nemesis.

Eddie was also preparing to leave the city. There wasn't much left worth staying for, and he had collected everything he needed to. It was time to go!

Just then, Chris hurried over, found Eddie, and whispered, "Eddie, we need your help with something."
