Evelyn looked at the marriage certificate hidden in her bag and then at Michael's expectant face. If she went public now, she'd be branded a "married actress" before her first lead role. The industry was a fickle beast; silence was her only shield.
"I'll pass," she said, tucking her phone away. "Let them talk. Rumors die when they aren't fed."
After dinner, Evelyn donned oversized sunglasses and pulled up her collar, trying to vanish into the shadows of the hotel lobby. Michael watched her with a mix of amusement and annoyance. He hated the secrecy.
"Move back to the villa, Evelyn," he commanded as he steered the car through the neon-lit streets of the City. "It's been long enough."
"And Erica?" Evelyn questioned, her voice flat.
Michael was silent for a while.
"My mother came by two days ago. She's making things difficult. She threatened to cut ties if I forced Erica out before she's 'recovered'."
