The explosion shook the entire city. Flames erupted from the eastern district, illuminating the night sky with a red glow as panic-stricken screams echoed throughout Aerindor once again. Lyra immediately turned toward the city.
"No…"
Smoke rapidly ascended above the rooftops. The captain of the hunters cursed sharply. "What has occurred now?" A wounded guard approached the wall, struggling to breathe. "It is the prison district—!" He nearly collapsed. "Something attacked the lower city!"
Panic quickly spread among the civilians. External shadow creatures reacted instantly, growing more powerful and feeding off the fear permeating Aerindor. Selene's expression darkened.
"This appears to be coordinated." Kael looked toward the burning district. "Someone orchestrated this chaos from the outset." The rogue anomaly, now weakly breathing beside Lyra, suddenly grasped her wrist. His voice trembled.
"They promised us freedom…" Lyra looked down sharply.
"Who?"
The man swallowed painfully,
"A group…"
Black blood stained his lips. "They call themselves…" Before he could finish, a black blade pierced directly through his chest from behind. The battlefield froze.
The rogue anomaly's eyes widened in shock before the blade vanished instantly. The man collapsed lifelessly into the dirt. A young girl screamed.
Lyra's heart sank instantly. She spun around immediately, but saw nothing, no attacker, no energy trace, nothing. The stranger's expression became grave.
"Assassin."
Selene appeared disturbed for the first time since arriving in Aerindor. "That was not an ordinary movement." Rylan examined the dead anomaly. "They killed him before he could disclose anything."
Kael immediately moved closer to Lyra. "This indicates that someone powerful is already within the city." The hunter captain issued orders without delay. "Seal the inner districts! Do not allow anyone to move alone!"
However, Lyra remained silent, staring at the lifeless rogue anomaly. He had been afraid, manipulated, used, and now murdered before revealing any truths. The little girl cried beside her father's body; her sobs were more painful than the ongoing battle.
Lyra knelt slowly beside her. The child looked up with tear-filled eyes. "Why did this happen?" Lyra could not answer, as she no longer understood. The system, awakenings, monsters, and hidden voices were all manipulating people. Things now felt larger, darker.
Suddenly, Selene gripped Lyra's arm firmly. "We must leave." Lyra frowned.
"What?"
Selene looked toward the burning city with unusual urgency.
"Now."
The stranger sensed it too, narrowing his eyes toward the eastern district. "There is another anomaly." Rylan blinked. "Please tell me it is not another giant monster."
"No," the stranger replied quietly. "Worse."
Then, the night sky over Aerindor split open—not physically, but emotionally. A crushing pressure spread across the city like invisible gravity. Everyone could feel it.
Guards dropped to one knee; civilians screamed in terror. Even Kael struggled slightly against the force.
Lyra looked toward the burning district and saw a figure floating above the flames—a young man, perhaps twenty years old, dressed in white, with a calm expression and golden eyes that glowed softly. Unlike previous anomalies, his power felt stable and controlled, yet terrifyingly calm.
He gazed at the city below, emotionless, before speaking. "Fear accelerates evolution precisely as predicted."
A profound silence ensued. "This was not panic but cold observation, as if Caelum were watching an experiment unfold."
"No…"
Lyra looked at her sharply. "Do you know him?" Selene whispered a name: "Caelum." The stranger reacted immediately. "That is impossible." The floating man's golden eyes gradually shifted toward Lyra, then he smiled slightly.
"Finally."
The pressure intensified instantly, causing buildings to crack and glass to shatter. People fainted from sheer force. Kael stepped protectively in front of Lyra.
"Who is he?"
Selene's voice trembled for the first time. "He is the first successful artificial anomaly." Silence. Rylan stared upward. "This is extremely concerning."
Caelum slowly descended through the burning air like a king arriving at his throne. The hunter captain raised his rune spear immediately.
"Halt!"
Caelum barely glanced at him. Then the spear shattered into dust from the pressure alone. The captain staggered backwards in shock. Caelum finally landed in the centre of the destroyed street, calm, perfectly composed, yet utterly terrifying.
He stared at Lyra."The system has changed because of you." Lyra met his gaze carefully. "And?" Caelum smiled softly.
"Now, humanity can finally evolve." Behind him, more glowing figures appeared within the burning district, dozens of stable anomalies, not frightened civilians or corrupted monsters, but followers.
Selene's expression darkened completely. "The Fracture faction…" Caelum spread his arms slightly. "We are the future this world fears."
The city trembled around them; humans and anomalies stared at each other through the smoke, fear in their eyes. Lyra understood that the true war had arrived not between monsters and humanity, but between two different visions of the future.
Caelum looked directly at Lyra and said calmly, "Join us willingly… or watch humanity destroy itself trying to resist evolution."
His golden aura expanded across the burning city.
