Chapter 64 - Chapter 64: The Future He Promised.

The city burned behind him as flames consumed shattered towers, while civilians, terrified, crowded the streets below. Guards maintained compromised defences, uncertain whether to engage in combat or retreat. Amidst this chaos, Caelum remained remarkably composed. Golden energy radiated around him, resembling sunlight encapsulated in human form, stable, untainted, and perfect.

This tranquillity instilled in Lyra greater fear than the monstrous entities. Because chaos could be restrained, but conviction could transform the world.

Caelum gazed steadily at Lyra.

"Join us willingly," he said, his voice seamlessly echoing across the ruined district, "or observe humanity self-destruct in its resistance to evolution."

A tense silence followed as onlookers waited anxiously for Lyra's response, including the awakened anomalies behind Caelum, who watched with a sense of faith rather than allegiance.

Rylan stepped beside Lyra and remarked, "He certainly deserves recognition for his dramatic entrance." Kael, ignoring the comment, kept his eyes fixed on Caelum. "He is dangerous," he said, with a negative tone.

Selene's expression darkened. "You have no idea," she replied. Caelum offered a slight smile. "You still fear me, Selene." "I fear what you have become," she responded. The golden-haired anomaly appeared slightly disappointed. "Still clinging to the old world."

A stranger then advanced, questioning, "Is this evolution?" he indicated the burning city, "People are dying." Caelum's expression did not change. "Growth always destroys weakness first," he stated.

This statement caused several civilians nearby to recoil, and some of his followers seemed uncomfortable. Yet Caelum remained composed. "Humanity fears anomalies because it fears change," he explained, addressing the frightened crowds. "They prefer to imprison power rather than understand it."

Lyra understood why others followed him they were convinced by his reasoned, logical discourse, which rendered him more dangerous. Caelum's gaze returned to her as he softly pulsed with energy around him. "You changed the system, Lyra, and now, people like us no longer need to hide."

Kael sharply intervened. "People suffer because of these awakenings." Caelum nodded calmly, "Temporary suffering," he replied. His words cast a chilling silence over the street. The hunter captain raised a weapon towards him. "You are responsible for the attacks beyond the city walls," he accused.

Caelum looked toward the distant battlefield. "Fear created those creatures long before my arrival," he said, then his gaze sharpened. "I am simply ending the illusion that the old world can survive." The pressure on the city intensified, causing some civilians to faint from fear. Rylan muttered, "I am beginning to despise this individual."

Lyra, however, remained focused. "Why create chaos?" she asked. Caelum appeared surprised. "Because peace was already dying," he replied, gesturing toward the humans and anomalies glaring at each other. "Observe," he said, lowering his voice.

"This world was destined to collapse, but from its remnants, we can forge something stronger." His followers nodded, silently convinced, not indoctrinated.

Lyra studied him carefully. "You believe that suffering justifies your vision," she said. "No," Caelum replied steadily, "I believe suffering is unavoidable."

This response resonated more profoundly than shouting, as parts of it felt truthful. Selene, now beside Lyra, warned, "Do not let him sway your philosophy. He always frames destruction as mercy."

Caelum looked at her with a flicker of emotion, regret, not anger. "You understand me better than anyone." Selene's eyes hardened instantly. "That is precisely why I left." Their tense exchange drew everyone's attention. Rylan blinked and said, "There is clearly a history here." Kael agreed quietly, "Too much history."

Lyra perceived the pain in Selene's expression and the disappointment in Caelum's eyes. They were not merely enemies but former allies. Before Lyra could speak, a terrified scream interrupted.

One of the newly awakened civilians lost control, and blue energy erupted violently from his arms amidst panic. People scattered immediately as the man looked horrified. "I cannot stop it!" he cried.

Guards raised weapons, but fear overtook reason. The man staggered backwards, unleashing unstable energy that damaged the street. Caelum then raised a hand, and a burst of golden light stabilised the energy within seconds. The man collapsed, crying, alive and unharmed.

The street fell silent as even the guards stared. Caelum lowered his hand and said softly, "This is what humanity truly fears." No one responded; they had just witnessed control, perfection, power without chaos. For a moment, some looked at Caelum with hope rather than fear.

Lyra recognised this and understood the peril. If Caelum continued saving people while kingdoms hunted anomalies, loyalties would form. The conflict would become ideological, no longer purely political.

Caelum glanced at Lyra one last time. "When you are ready to abandon a dying world, find me." Then he vanished, and his followers disappeared seconds later. The oppressive pressure on the city lifted instantly, leaving only silence and smoke. No one moved, for Aerindor had seen something terrifying, not a monster, nor a villain, but a future that nearly made sense.

Selene stared at the space Caelum left behind, whispering, "He is stronger than before." She then looked directly at Lyra. "If he reaches the Core first, the world will end."
