Alas, noone comes.
An hour passes. Then two.
The sun went down, the moon arose.
She's staring at the flowing water of the river remembering how many times her parents played catch by using her as a ball when they're in pool and she was a kid.
She was a giggling mess. They never let her go.
She slowly comes to term that they're never going to come running to her again. That she might never get those surprise hugs everyday that are not very surprising.
This is a new world. She is Akira here. Her past life is gone. Her family, her achievements everything is gone.
But.... but what her parents taught her, they're with her.
" Tara, life is a beautiful thing. Every part of life be it sadness, loss, happiness, greif, fun, wins , they all make it beautiful. In future, if me or your dad die someday, don't be sad. Every life that is born will eventually go. But the thing is, whatever life you have, you should enjoy it. Live it to the fullest. And remember, your happiness is everything we dream of. Live your life your way. If anyone comes being an ass, slap them on the face. Your parents are more than capable of handling the concequences."
Her mother's words echoed in her head.
She smiled at that.
They allowed her to completely rely on them while teaching how to rise alone.
Be it the 3 hour physical excercise every day in the name of yoga and kungfu or the healthy and delicious food full of fresh fruits and vegetables with no animal cruelty with a full can of curd or the early morning study and random debates on controversial topics that came out of nowhere and rarely ended with a proper solution while eating breakfast or dinner, they prepared her for everything.
She gets up to head to Aya's house only to realise she's lost and just lies down again.
A few more hours pass and she's counting the stars in the sky until the mosquitos introduced themselves.
And she did what her mother taught her. Slapping them on their faces or in this case, to their deaths.
Little did she know her little self discovery time is creating chaos and lawsuits are being initiated due to the disappearance of the golden goose .
" Mam, our patrol teams are in search of your niece. You need to calm down. "
" How can I ?! She's like a daughter to me! If anything happens to her, I don't know what I will do.
I'm telling you it's Arisa's family who kidnapped her! They have an eye on her property! " She threw the blame on her sister genuinely believing that is the reason.
She wants the property. Nobody can stop her from taking it. It may take some time but it will come to her soon. If Arisa is put out of the legal game with this situation, then she won't have to worry about losing Akira's guardianship.
Her grandparents parents were deemed too old to care for that brat. And her mother's family side only has her uncle who is heavy gambler and was judged unfit to raise a kid by the court.
Now the only competition is Arisa, Aya's sister. They're both the younger sisters of Akira's father. During the court hearing, the judge stated that Akira would be staying half of the year with Aya and the half of the year with Arisa.
'What a fool. Since she already admitted that brat in that pathetic school in her neighbourhood, Arisa cannot take her away. '
At this point, Akira finally moves from her spot and looks for 'a trusted adult ' which she clearly doesn't trust to help her find way to the closest police station.
As she walks on the street, she finds who she classified as a hero who looks like a red winged chicken and approaches him.
" I'm lost. "
Hawks was in a patrol. It's almost 11pm. He was about to head back to his agency to let the next one to take shift in his place when he stopped spotting some disturbance in the street due to his echolocation.
Normally, people would've already went back to home by this time. Which means it's someone with a midnight craving, night shift or a criminal. But the echo of the footsteps, heartbeat and breathing sounds too light to be of an adult and too calm to be of a lost child.
So he thought it would have been some dwarf human.
But his musings soon came to a stop when the supposed to be dwarf human came to view. She looked like she's searching for something.
'A night prankster? ' He mused.
The kid spotted him after she came closer to his location after which she approached him and said " I'm lost " in with a tone that stated complete lack of any emotion beyond boredom.
Hawks was speechless for a second before a massive wave of interest took over him.
