A few days later, Dylan finally had enough.
He found Sharon after school near the lockers.
"We need to talk," he said.
Sharon sighed. "About what?"
"About why you've been avoiding me."
"I'm not avoiding you."
"Sharon."
She crossed her arms. "What?"
"Did I do something?" he asked.
She hesitated.
Then finally—
"I saw you with Kayla," she said.
Dylan blinked. "What?"
"You seem… close."
He stared at her for a second.
Then he laughed softly.
"You thought—"
"I didn't think anything," she cut in quickly.
"Yes, you did," he said. "You thought I like her."
Sharon looked away.
Dylan shook his head.
"Kayla is just a friend," he said. "She needed help with something. That's it."
Sharon frowned. "Really?"
"Really."
Silence fell between them.
Then Dylan stepped a little closer.
"The other day in the library…" he said.
Sharon's heart started racing again.
"You interrupted me," he continued. "But what I was trying to say is…"
He paused.
"I don't see you as my enemy anymore."
Sharon looked up at him.
"And?" she asked softly.
Dylan smiled slightly.
"And I don't think I have for a while."
Sharon felt her chest tighten.
The tension between them faded, just a little.
"Friends?" Dylan asked, holding out his hand.
Sharon looked at it.
Then at him.
Slowly, she smiled.
"Friends," she said, shaking his hand.
But deep down…
She knew this was more than friendship.
And judging by the way Dylan looked at her—
He knew it too. 💕📖
