Chapter 15 - chapter 15: cutting my losses

I quickly handed her a glass of water and watched as her complexion returned to normal.

"Sorry, sorry—my mistake. So, what were you saying about the money?" she said, her eyes still watering from choking.

"Next time, don't eat too fast. I'm not going to fight you for your food," I said, looking at her.

"Do you dare fight with me for food?" she shot back, glaring at me.

"So what did you say?" she continued.

I sighed. "Really, that's all I can do right now. Don't send me back. I don't necessarily have to stay here—anywhere is fine. Just let me recover my memory, and I'll pay you, no matter how much you ask." I watched her reaction carefully.

"No, no—you can't go just anywhere. You're very eye-catching. People will notice, and then I'll have to split the money," she said quickly.

"So?" I prompted.

"Fine, I accept your proposal. But you can't stay here—it's not proper."

I rolled my eyes at her.

"You'll stay with my boyfriend. He doesn't really like all this idol stuff, and his apartment is bigger—so it's the perfect choice, isn't it? He's nice too," she added proudly.

Would you stop bragging about your boyfriend? This is why they shouldn't let children date, I thought.

"What is it? Is it because you don't remember your girlfriends?" she said, deliberately drawing out the s.

"Girlfriends?" I repeated, slightly shocked.

"Don't you remember? Your fanbase is filled with mostly girls—if not only girls," she said, taking the dishes to the kitchen.

I sat there, wondering. Girlfriends?

That's when she came back. "Yeah, a lot," she added. "Some call themselves your wives, some your girlfriends, and some just want to stay by your side and watch you smile."

She paused for a moment, then nodded to the side. "My friend Yuna is in the 'girlfriends' group."

"So which group are you in?" I asked, since she's also a fan.

"Me?" she said, pointing to herself. "Oh, I cut my losses early. I can't compete with that many girls, and I don't like heartbreak. So yeah, I took myself out."

She tapped my shoulder lightly. "I'm still your fan," she added, "just not in any of those groups."

I just looked at her and smiled—so I am indeed eye-catching.

She shot me a glare and rolled her eyes,

Then the phone rang. She lunged for it, her hand trembling slightly… and in that split second, the glass she was holding

hit the floor with a deafening crash, shards scattering everywhere.

Her eyes widened, panic flashing across her face, and I froze—half worried, half trying not to laugh.
