Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: When Darkness Takes Hold

Her expression darkened slightly then she let out a faint laughter.

"I know you're not scared but you shouldn't be in a face-off with Edward. Surely he might be big and scary on the outside but he's ten times more than that inside." She answered back dryly.

Evans crossed his arms, his expression indifferent.

"If you're done speaking, just leave."

She beamed and then stepped back slowly. "I'll be there tomorrow." She let out simply then added. "Whether you like it or not."

Just like that...

She was gone!

She didn't run nor did she walk.

It was as if she had disappeared into thin air.

Evans stood still,he was not amazed. This was not the first time he'd seen her do that but he was bothered about the strange lady's warning and Edward's challenge. He was not good at exchanging blows,it was a fact that Edward would beat the hell out of him if he decided to stand up against him.

Would he apologize?

He shook his head then ran his hands through his hair.

This is not the right time to back down. He is not a weakling as the mysterious lady said and he'd prove it.

"What is going on?"

He was startled for a few seconds, then turned his gaze in that direction. It was Jasmine. She was standing by the window and her eyes were on him. The lecture had ended unknown to Evans.

"I don't owe you any explanation." Evans retorted as he walked back into the hall while Jasmine's eyes were on him.

The practicals and other lectures went smoothly and even though Evans was preoccupied with thoughts of the lady and Edward, he paid attention. After lectures, students began heading home.

Evans removed his phone from his Jeans pocket as he stepped out of the building. Jane had texted him thrice and even called once but he was in class.

As he scrolled on his phone to text her back, the sudden shivering caught up with him.

Another vision was on its way!

His phone fell on the floor and he tightened his hands into fists.

"Not ....now" He muttered.

The other people passing beside him paid no attention to him, they were chatting happily as they walked past him.

His breath quivered as he raised his eyes to the sky.

The world around him began to blur and the laughter of the students faded...the conversations began to turn into whispers and gradually everything faded to darkness.

His mother had always told him to take a deep breath whenever the vision flashed into his head but it was too late.

Reality had faded.

Images began to flash and it was fast.

Very fast and disorganized.

He saw the basketball court...a sinister figure was standing before him.

Its eyes were glowing and as Evans tired of escaping, he could not. His body was tied.

A sinister smile crept on the figure's lips and as it stepped into the light, Evans saw its appearance.

The figure was built like a wolf and the face...the face was somewhat familiar.

Then suddenly a scream, from his own guts.

His heart pounded rapidly as the wolf-like figure pounded on him.

He couldn't move...he could not save himself.

He closed his eyes instantly and he gasped violently as he snapped back to reality.

Air rushed to his lungs as if he had been drowning and his knees gave way. He fell to the floor and his hands landed on the hard concrete.

Some students had taken notice of his condition.

"Should we call someone?"

"Are you okay?"

"Do you think he's asthmatic?"

Evans ignored them as he rose to his feet. His heart was still racing and his body trembling.

The vision meant only one thing.

He was in danger.

Could it be Edward?

He picked up his phone and headed to the parking lot. Students watching, hands pointing, and muffled whispers.

As he got to the parking lot, a scented handkerchief covered his nose from behind and before he could react, his sight blurred and his body gave way to the ground.

Before he blacked out, he saw Edward and his group laughing maniacally.

Darkness didn't come slowly.

It swallowed him whole.

•••••••••••••••••

He groaned.

Faint echoes crept in as he fluttered his eyes open.

Laughter.

It was faint then it gradually got louder...and meaner.

As his eyes opened, the pain in his ribs made him shut his eyes. They must have kicked him in the chest or probably done something to hurt him.

"The sleeping princess is finally awake."

A familiar voice said.

Evans opened his eyes again, this time widely.

His head throbbed violently and he tried to move but his body refused.

As his sight adjusted, the dark figures standing before him got clearer.

Before he could speak, a hard rod hit him on the shoulder and he let out a loud shout.

"Wakey wakey, brave boy." One of the guys from Edward's group said.

Evans looked down at his hands.... They were tied to the back of the chair he was seated on. His backpack was on the floor and his floor was with Edward.

"Well well," Edward said in a low tone as he crouched in front of Evans. A devilish smirk on his face. "It seems you've gotten yourself into trouble, haven't you?"

Evans clenched his jaw. "You are not a man of your word, are you?"

Edward furrowed his brows then scoffed. "We decided to make things quicker. It won't be great keeping you waiting."

Evans' breathing became uneven as he struggled against the rope used to tie him to the chair but it was futile. "Untie me, now."

The group laughed.

"Did you hear that?" Edward said as he straightened up. "This nerd and timid boy is giving us orders."

"I don't want trouble. I don't want to get involved with you guys, let me go...my mom would be worried." Evans let out softly.

Edward smiled. "Your mom?" He dropped Evans's phone on the concrete floor and then stepped on it. "If you mean the bitch that has been calling nonstop since...I can help you with that..

"Don't you dare call her that! You freak!" Evans cut in angrily but was hit with the rod. He groaned in pain as the pain in his shoulder got intense.
