Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: When the Sun Finally Fell

The final light of the sun dipped slowly behind the distant mountains, casting long shadows across the shattered clearing. The sky burned crimson for a brief moment before darkness began to creep across the forest. For three cultivators standing at the center of the battlefield, those last few seconds felt longer than the entire trial.

Lin Ye's heartbeat thundered in his ears as he rushed forward alongside Gu Chen. Across from them, Zhao Tian moved like a storm unleashed, his spiritual energy surging violently around him. The air trembled with the force of their final clash, each of them gathering every remaining ounce of strength for the decisive moment.

Their attacks collided.

The impact erupted like thunder across the clearing.

A massive shockwave burst outward, scattering dust, leaves, and broken branches in every direction. The ground beneath their feet cracked further as the three powerful forces collided head-on.

Lin Ye felt his arms shake violently from the impact. Pain surged through his body, but he refused to retreat. Instead, he forced himself forward, pushing through the resistance with pure stubbornness.

Across from him, Zhao Tian's eyes flashed with surprise.

Lin Ye's strength had increased again.

Not dramatically.

But enough.

Behind Zhao Tian, Gu Chen struck at the same moment, his palm attack perfectly timed to break Zhao Tian's balance.

For a brief instant—

The unstoppable Zhao Tian was pushed backward.

Three steps.

Four.

Then he finally regained his footing.

The clearing fell silent.

Dust slowly settled through the fading sunlight as the three fighters stared at one another, breathing heavily.

Lin Ye's arms hung loosely at his sides, his muscles trembling from exhaustion. His chest rose and fell rapidly as he tried to steady himself.

The demonic energy inside him pulsed violently.

The system flickered again.

Lin Ye clenched his fists tightly.

Still not enough to lose control.

Still within his limit.

Across from him, Zhao Tian slowly straightened his posture. His robe had several tears now, and faint bruises had appeared across his arms from repeated clashes.

But his expression remained calm.

For a moment he said nothing.

Then he laughed quietly.

"…Impressive."

Gu Chen raised an eyebrow.

"That doesn't sound like something you say to people you're about to defeat."

Zhao Tian shook his head.

"No."

His gaze shifted between Lin Ye and Gu Chen.

"It sounds like something I say to people who survived."

Lin Ye frowned slightly.

"What?"

Zhao Tian tilted his head toward the horizon.

"Look."

Both Lin Ye and Gu Chen instinctively glanced toward the sky.

The sun had vanished.

Only a faint glow remained beyond the mountains.

At the same moment, a powerful voice echoed across the entire forest.

It carried immense authority, spreading across the trial grounds like rolling thunder.

"Time is up."

The voice belonged to one of the Azure Cloud Sect elders overseeing the trial.

"The Inner Sect Trial has ended."

The tension in the clearing slowly dissolved.

No more attacks came.

No more spiritual pressure surged.

For the first time since the battle began, the three cultivators simply stood there, catching their breath.

Lin Ye exhaled slowly.

"…That's it?"

Gu Chen nodded slightly.

"The trial is over."

Zhao Tian dusted off his sleeve calmly.

"You two were lucky."

Lin Ye smirked.

"Luck had nothing to do with it."

Zhao Tian's lips curved faintly.

"Perhaps."

He glanced around the ruined clearing.

"The rankings will be decided by tokens and survival."

Gu Chen reached into his robe and pulled out his collected tokens.

Lin Ye did the same.

Zhao Tian glanced briefly at their piles.

Then he chuckled.

"It seems we're all passing."

Lin Ye stretched his stiff shoulders.

"Good."

Because despite the fierce battle—

None of them had actually wanted to die there.

Gu Chen looked at Lin Ye briefly.

"…Your control improved."

Lin Ye smirked.

"Don't sound so impressed."

Gu Chen shook his head.

"I'm cautious."

Zhao Tian stepped closer to them both, his gaze thoughtful now.

"This trial revealed something interesting."

Lin Ye raised an eyebrow.

"What's that?"

Zhao Tian pointed at him.

"You."

Lin Ye blinked.

"Me?"

Zhao Tian nodded.

"You grow faster during battle than anyone I've ever seen."

Gu Chen didn't argue.

Because it was true.

Zhao Tian crossed his arms.

"Which means one thing."

His eyes sharpened slightly.

"You're dangerous."

Lin Ye laughed softly.

"People keep saying that."

Zhao Tian smiled.

"And they're right."

For a moment none of them spoke.

Then Zhao Tian turned away.

"We'll meet again in the Inner Sect."

Gu Chen nodded once.

Lin Ye simply waved lazily.

"Try not to get weaker before then."

Zhao Tian laughed again before disappearing into the forest.

Gu Chen remained behind for a moment longer.

He looked at Lin Ye carefully.

"…Your aura is unstable."

Lin Ye shrugged.

"Still breathing though."

Gu Chen studied him silently.

"Just don't lose control."

Lin Ye smiled faintly.

"I don't plan to."

Gu Chen nodded.

Then he also turned and left.

Lin Ye stood alone in the ruined clearing.

The forest was quiet again.

But inside his body—

The demonic energy still stirred.

The system flickered once more.

[Bloodline Awakening: 83%]

Lin Ye stared at the notification for a long moment.

"…Closer."

Much closer.

But he didn't know yet whether reaching one hundred percent would be a blessing—

Or a curse.

Above the forest canopy, Su Qingyue watched the final moments of the trial with calm eyes.

The three geniuses had survived.

But her attention remained fixed on only one of them.

Lin Ye.

The faint demonic aura around him had not faded.

If anything—

It had grown stronger.

Su Qingyue turned away slowly.

"…The real test begins now."

Because once the trial ended—

The true struggles inside the Azure Cloud Sect would begin.

And Lin Ye had just stepped into the center of it.
