Chapter 62 - PART 63 — The Line He Crossed

The night didn't feel normal.

It wasn't loud.It wasn't chaotic.

It was too quiet.

The kind of quiet that makes your instincts whisper—something is wrong.

Pixel walked alone.

Her steps slow.

Mind heavier than her body.

Everything from the morning still lingered.

Her confession.

Daniel leaving.

Stephan staying.

Nothing felt settled.

Nothing felt peaceful.

Her phone buzzed again.

Unknown number.

She frowned.

For a second, she thought of ignoring it.

But something—

something made her pick it up.

"Hello?"

Silence.

"Who is this?"

A breath.

Familiar.

Too familiar.

"Miss me already?"

Her heart dropped.

"Daniel…?"

A soft chuckle came from the other side.

But it didn't sound like him.

Not fully.

"That was fast," he said.

Pixel stopped walking.

Her grip tightened around her phone.

"Why are you calling from another number?"

A pause.

Then—

"Does it matter?"

Something felt off.

Very off.

"Daniel… what do you want?"

Another silence.

Longer this time.

Then—

"I want you to stop pretending."

Her chest tightened.

"I'm not—"

"You are."

His voice changed.

Not loud.

But colder.

Sharper.

"You think saying his name out loud makes it real?" he continued."You think choosing him… ends this?"

Pixel's breathing became uneven.

"Daniel, listen—"

"No. You listen."

Her heart started racing.

Because this wasn't the Daniel she knew.

"You don't get to walk away like that," he said slowly."You don't get to decide everything alone."

"I didn't—"

"You did."

Silence hit again.

But now—

it felt dangerous.

"Where are you?" she asked.

A soft laugh.

"You tell me."

Her stomach dropped.

"What?"

"Turn around, Pixel."

Everything froze.

Her body didn't want to move.

But it did.

Slowly.

Reluctantly.

And then—

she saw him.

Standing across the road.

Leaning casually against a car.

Like nothing was wrong.

Like everything was normal.

But it wasn't.

Because his eyes—

they weren't calm.

They weren't soft.

They were…

fixed.

On her.

Pixel's breath caught.

"Daniel… what are you doing here?"

He didn't answer immediately.

He just pushed himself off the car.

And started walking toward her.

Step by step.

"You shouldn't have said it like that," he said quietly.

Her heart pounded harder.

"Said what?"

"That you like him."

There was something in his tone.

Something unstable.

"Daniel—"

"I told you to choose," he interrupted."But I didn't think you'd choose wrong."

Her chest tightened.

"That's not fair—"

"No," he said.

"It's not."

He stopped in front of her.

Too close.

"You think he understands you?" he asked softly.

Pixel stepped back.

"I don't want to do this right now."

But he stepped forward.

Closing the distance again.

"You don't get to walk away again," he said.

That word—

again—

felt heavier than before.

"Daniel, you're scaring me."

For a second—

just a second—

his expression flickered.

But it didn't last.

"I'm not trying to scare you," he said.

"I'm trying to fix this."

Fix.

Her heartbeat spiked.

"There's nothing to fix."

His jaw tightened.

"There is."

"No, there isn't."

Silence.

Sharp.

Then—

he smiled.

But it didn't reach his eyes.

"Okay," he said.

"Then let's talk somewhere else."

"I'm not going anywhere with you."

That was the moment.

The exact moment—

everything changed.

Because his expression—

dropped.

Completely.

Before she could react—

his hand grabbed her wrist.

Strong.

Sudden.

"Daniel—what are you doing?!"

"Relax," he said quietly.

"I said let go!"

But he didn't.

Her panic rose instantly.

"Daniel, stop—this isn't funny!"

"I'm not joking."

And that—

that was the scariest part.

The world around them suddenly felt distant.

Muted.

"Get in the car."

"No."

His grip tightened.

"Daniel, you're hurting me!"

"Then stop fighting me."

Her heart was racing now.

Full panic.

"This isn't you!" she said desperately.

He leaned closer.

And whispered—

"This is exactly me."

Her breath stopped.

Before she could scream—

before she could run—

The car door opened.

And everything blurred.

Unknown Location

Dark.

Quiet.

Closed.

Pixel's eyes opened slowly.

Her head hurt.

Her body felt heavy.

The first thing she noticed—

was the silence.

The second—

was the unfamiliar room.

And the third—

"Finally awake."

Her heart jumped.

Daniel.

Sitting across the room.

Watching her.

"Daniel—what is this…?"

Her voice trembled.

He stood up.

Walked slowly toward her.

"You needed time," he said calmly.

"So I gave it to you."

Her breathing became uneven.

"This isn't time. This is—"

"Don't say it."

His voice turned sharp again.

"Don't turn this into something ugly."

Her hands trembled.

"It already is."

Silence.

He crouched in front of her.

"You're just overwhelmed," he said softly.

"You don't actually want him."

Her chest tightened.

"Yes, I do."

That was it.

That one sentence—

Something snapped.

He stood up abruptly.

Ran a hand through his hair.

"No," he muttered.

"No, you don't."

"Yes, I do!"

Her voice broke.

But she didn't stop.

"I told you the truth, Daniel!"

"Then it's the wrong truth!"

The room filled with tension again.

"You're confused," he said, pacing now.

"You always do this—you overthink, you panic, you—"

"Stop deciding things for me!"

Silence crashed again.

His breathing was heavier now.

"I know you," he said quietly.

"Better than anyone."

Pixel shook her head.

"No."

That one word—

hit harder than anything.

"No," she repeated.

"You knew me."

He froze.

Past tense.

"I still do," he said.

"No," she whispered.

"If you did… you wouldn't be doing this."

Silence.

Long.

Heavy.

For a moment—

he didn't respond.

And in that moment—

you could see it.

The crack.

Not in his anger.

But in him.

"I'm not trying to hurt you," he said finally.

"Then let me go."

His jaw tightened again.

"I can't."

That answer—

terrified her more than anything.

"Why?"

A pause.

Then—

very quietly—

"Because if I do… I lose you."

Her heart sank.

Because this wasn't love.

This was fear.

This was control.

And that made it worse.

"You already lost me," she said softly.

That line—

Destroyed something.

His expression changed again.

Slower this time.

Darker.

"No," he said.

"I just haven't fixed it yet."

Ending Hook

Because sometimes—

the person who can't let you go…

is the one you need to escape from the most.

And the scariest part?

He doesn't think he's doing anything wrong
