Chapter 7 - chapter 7: Morning Tension

Morning came quickly at Will Stone Academy, but inside Dorm 7B, the air felt different from usual. The quiet rivalry from the night before hadn't disappeared—it had only settled deeper.

Brian was the first to wake up, stretching loudly.

"Another day, another chance for me to embarrass myself," he joked.

Renée threw a pillow at him. "You don't need a new day for that."

Dimitris laughed while tying his shoelaces. "At least he's consistent."

Amani checked her notebook. "Today is project day. We need to be serious."

Across the room, Daniel sat on the edge of his bed, still wearing the box. He had barely slept. His hands rested on his knees, fingers tapping nervously.

Near the door, Odin stood quietly, pulling on his jacket. He looked calm, but inside, his thoughts were racing too.

Then the door opened.

Luna walked in, already dressed for the day, her bag hanging over her shoulder.

"Morning," she said.

Everyone answered at once.

"Morning," Brian yawned.

"Finally," Renée said.

"Let's go," Amani added.

Daniel stayed quiet but gave a small nod.

Odin glanced at Luna for a second, then looked away.

The tension was small—but noticeable.

---

Outside, the group walked together toward class.

The courtyard buzzed with students preparing for the Group Project Challenge, something the teachers had been planning for weeks.

A large poster stood near the entrance:

"TEAM BUILDING WEEK — FINAL PROJECT TODAY."

Brian groaned. "Please don't let it involve water again."

Dimitris smirked. "You just don't like falling."

Renée crossed her arms confidently. "Relax. Group One always wins."

Amani nodded. "But we need coordination today."

Luna walked beside Daniel this time.

"You didn't sleep much, did you?" she asked gently.

Daniel hesitated, then shook his head slightly. "Not really."

"Thinking too much?" she asked.

He nodded once.

Luna smiled softly. "You worry too much sometimes."

Daniel's hands tightened slightly on the edge of the box.

Before he could answer, Odin stepped closer to the group.

"We should check the board," Odin said calmly.

Luna turned. "Good idea."

Daniel noticed it—how easily Odin spoke, how calm he looked.

Inside, Daniel felt a small spark of determination.

I won't just stay quiet anymore, he thought.

---

At the project board, the teacher stood waiting.

"Group One," she called. "You'll be working on the Rescue Bridge Challenge."

Brian blinked. "That sounds dangerous."

Renée grinned. "That sounds awesome."

Amani read the instructions carefully. "We have to build a bridge using limited materials… then cross it together."

Dimitris nodded. "Strength and teamwork."

Odin studied the materials laid out on the table—ropes, wooden planks, metal clips.

Daniel stepped forward slowly.

"I can… help with the structure," he said quietly.

Everyone turned to him.

Renée smiled. "Look at Daniel stepping up."

Brian gave him a thumbs-up. "Let's go, box-master."

Luna smiled proudly. "I knew you would."

Odin noticed the way Luna looked at Daniel.

That small smile.

That trust.

Something tightened inside his chest.

---

The challenge began.

A loud whistle echoed across the field.

Immediately, Group One sprang into action.

Amani organized the materials.

Renée gave loud directions.

Dimitris measured distances carefully.

Brian carried planks, nearly dropping one twice.

Odin tied strong knots with precision.

Luna checked balance points.

Daniel crouched near the center of the bridge structure.

His hands moved carefully, adjusting the supports beneath the planks.

"Hold that steady," Daniel said quietly.

Odin grabbed the side rope.

"Got it," Odin replied.

For a moment, the two worked side by side.

Silent.

Focused.

But aware of each other.

---

Halfway through building, one plank slipped.

Brian shouted, "Whoa!"

The structure tilted dangerously.

Luna nearly lost her balance.

Daniel reacted instantly, grabbing the loose plank and forcing it back into position.

Odin pulled the rope tight at the same time.

The bridge steadied.

Everyone froze.

Then Amani exhaled. "That was close."

Renée laughed nervously. "Okay… nobody panic again."

Luna looked directly at Daniel.

"You saved that," she said.

Daniel lowered his head slightly. "We saved it."

Odin glanced at him, surprised.

That answer… wasn't prideful.

It was teamwork.

---

Finally, the bridge was ready.

"Time to cross," the teacher called.

One by one, Group One stepped onto the wooden planks.

Renée first.

Then Dimitris.

Brian slowly, shaking.

"Don't look down," Amani warned.

Luna stepped carefully next.

Daniel followed right behind her.

The planks creaked slightly.

Then—

CRACK.

One support shifted.

Luna slipped slightly.

Before she could fall, two hands reached at the same time.

Daniel grabbed her arm.

Odin grabbed the rope beside her.

Together, they steadied her.

Luna froze for a second, heart pounding.

Then she stood upright again.

"I'm okay," she said, breathing deeply.

Daniel didn't let go immediately.

Neither did Odin.

For a second, the three of them stayed frozen.

Connected.

Then Luna slowly pulled her arm back.

"Thanks… both of you," she said softly.

Daniel stepped back.

Odin nodded once.

---

When the group reached the other side, cheers erupted.

"You did it!" Brian shouted.

Renée pumped her fist. "Group One wins again!"

Amani smiled proudly. "Perfect teamwork."

Dimitris crossed his arms. "Not bad."

The teacher clapped. "Excellent cooperation."

Luna turned toward Daniel.

"You were brave today," she said.

Daniel felt warmth spread inside his chest.

Across from them, Odin watched quietly.

He wasn't angry.

He wasn't upset.

But he understood something clearly now:

This wasn't just teamwork anymore.

This was becoming a rivalry.

Not loud.

Not obvious.

But real.

---

As the sun climbed higher above Will Stone Academy, Group One celebrated their victory.

But beneath the laughter and smiles, something deeper was growing:

Friendship.

Competition.

And feelings that none of them could ignore anymore.
