The next morning at Will Stone Academy, the campus felt louder than usual. Students gathered in small groups, whispering and glancing toward Class 7B.
Something was spreading.
A rumor.
Inside the classroom, Group One sat together as usual: Daniel, Luna, Renée, Amani, Brian, Dimitris, and Odin.
Brian noticed it first.
"Why is everyone staring?" he whispered.
Renée glanced toward the door. "Yeah… that's not normal."
Dimitris frowned. "Something's off."
Amani closed her notebook slowly. "They're looking at Daniel."
Daniel stiffened slightly, his hands tightening against his desk.
Luna turned toward the hallway just as two students passed by, whispering loudly enough to hear.
"That's him… the one with the box."
"I heard he hides his face because of something scary."
Daniel froze.
The room went quiet.
Odin's jaw tightened slightly.
Brian slammed his pencil down. "Okay, who started that nonsense?"
Renée crossed her arms. "Someone clearly has too much time."
Luna leaned slightly closer to Daniel.
"Ignore them," she said softly.
But ignoring it wasn't easy.
More whispers followed as students passed the classroom door.
"He never takes it off."
"What if he's hiding something weird?"
Dimitris stood up slightly. "If anyone says that again, they'll deal with me."
Amani placed a hand on his arm. "Sit. Fighting won't fix this."
Odin spoke quietly but firmly. "We handle this smartly."
Daniel stayed silent.
Inside the box, his breathing grew heavier.
They're talking about me…
---
Later that morning, the teacher entered.
"Class, settle down," she said.
But even during the lesson, whispers continued behind Daniel's back.
Brian leaned closer to him. "Don't listen to them."
Renée nodded. "They don't know anything."
Luna added quietly, "We do."
Daniel nodded slightly.
But inside, his confidence felt shaken.
---
During lunch break, the situation got worse.
As Group One walked toward their usual spot under the tree, a group of older students blocked their path.
One of them smirked.
"So… you're the box guy."
Brian stepped forward immediately. "Back off."
Renée stood beside him. "Yeah, find something better to do."
The older student ignored them and pointed at Daniel.
"What are you hiding in there?" he asked mockingly.
Dimitris clenched his fists. "Say that again."
Odin stepped slightly in front of Daniel without speaking.
Amani whispered, "Don't start trouble."
Luna stepped forward calmly.
"Leave him alone," she said firmly.
The older student laughed. "Or what?"
For a second, the air felt tense.
Daniel's hands trembled inside the box.
His breathing grew faster.
He wanted to speak.
But fear held him still.
Then Odin spoke.
"You heard her," Odin said calmly. "Leave."
Something about his voice made the older student pause.
After a moment, the group backed away, still laughing but no longer blocking the path.
Brian exhaled loudly. "That was too close."
Renée shook her head. "Idiots."
Dimitris muttered, "Cowards."
---
They sat under the tree in silence.
No jokes.
No laughter.
Just tension.
Finally, Daniel spoke.
"I'm sorry," he said quietly.
Everyone turned toward him.
"For what?" Luna asked.
"For causing trouble," he replied.
Renée immediately shook her head. "No way."
Brian added, "You didn't do anything wrong."
Amani nodded. "Rumors are their mistake, not yours."
Dimitris crossed his arms. "We've got your back."
Odin spoke last.
"Always," he said.
Daniel lowered his head slightly.
Inside the box, something shifted.
Not fear.
Not shame.
Determination.
---
Later that afternoon, another announcement came over the loudspeaker.
"Attention students," the principal's voice echoed.
"Tomorrow begins the Inter-Class Team Challenge. Teams will compete in skill, teamwork, and problem-solving."
Renée's eyes lit up. "Now that sounds exciting."
Brian groaned. "More chances for me to fall."
Amani smiled. "More chances for us to win."
Dimitris cracked his knuckles. "I'm ready."
Luna glanced at Daniel.
"So are you," she said gently.
Daniel hesitated… then nodded.
Odin looked between them, thoughtful.
Tomorrow would test more than teamwork.
It would test courage.
Confidence.
And maybe…
Secrets.
---
That night, Daniel sat alone near the window again.
But this time, he didn't feel small.
He felt ready.
He touched the edge of the box slowly.
They think I'm hiding something scary, he thought.
Maybe it's time they learn the truth.
Outside, the lights of Will Stone Academy glowed in the darkness.
And tomorrow, during the Inter-Class Team Challenge, something big was about to happen.
Something that might bring the truth behind the box closer than ever before.
