Chapter 19 — Midnight Confessions
Day 9 in the Sahara Desert.
The camp looked completely different now.
The new tents stood strong against the evening wind. Fire stands were again placed around the camp boundary, and a big central fire burned steadily.
After the storm and two exhausting days of recovery, everyone finally had energy again.
Which meant only one thing.
Chaos had returned.
The smell of dinner spread through the camp as Percy stood beside the fire holding a large cooking pot like a proud chef.
"Dinner is served!"
He dramatically lifted the lid.
Everyone gathered around immediately.
JJ crossed her arms.
"You didn't cook that."
Percy looked offended.
"I supervised."
Ash rolled her eyes.
"You cut one onion."
Percy pointed proudly.
"Leadership is about delegation."
Cin laughed.
"Bro, you cried while cutting that onion."
"IT WAS A STRATEGIC TEAR."
Laughter exploded around the camp.
Meanwhile Ash, JJ and Zein were actually serving the food properly.
"Careful," Ash said, handing bowls around.
"Everyone gets equal portions."
Percy immediately leaned toward JJ.
"Baby sistah, give me extra."
JJ slapped his hand.
"No."
Percy gasped dramatically.
"You betray your brother like this?"
Aries grabbed Percy's bowl and filled it halfway.
"That's enough for you."
Percy stared at it.
"I am starving."
Keifer smirked.
"You ate two hours ago."
"THAT WAS A SNACK."
Across the fire, Alex and Lyra were laughing quietly.
Alex nudged her.
"Your best friend started a war over vegetables yesterday."
Lyra grinned.
"She will do it again."
Right on cue—
Care looked suspiciously at the food bowl.
"Who used preservatives in this?"
Cole sighed loudly.
"Oh no."
Ren laughed.
"Here we go again."
Care pointed at the food packets nearby.
"These ready-to-cook packets are full of preservatives."
Cole shrugged.
"They're food."
"They're chemicals."
"They're convenient."
"They're unhealthy."
"They're edible."
"They're terrible."
"They taste good."
The group burst out laughing.
Gorya leaned toward Thyme.
"They argue like a married couple."
Cole and Care immediately shouted together—
"WE DO NOT."
The fire crackled as laughter spread again.
But in the middle of the chaos—
Ace leaned toward Care and Mia quietly.
"Tonight."
Care raised an eyebrow.
"What about tonight?"
Ace looked toward Zein across the fire.
She was laughing at something Allison said.
His voice softened.
"I want to tell her."
Mia immediately smiled.
"Oh."
Care leaned back slightly.
"You're finally confessing."
Ace nodded.
"After six months… I think it's time."
Care smirked.
"What's the plan?"
Ace spoke quietly.
"Wake her at 2:00 AM."
Mia's eyes sparkled.
"A midnight date."
Care grinned.
"I like it."
Ace looked serious again.
"You two help me wake her up."
Mia saluted dramatically.
"Mission accepted."
Care nodded.
"Consider it done."
None of them noticed that MJ was quietly watching the conversation.
Or that Percy had already started listening.
Within ten minutes—
Half the camp knew about the plan.
---
1:55 AM
The camp was silent.
The desert sky was filled with endless stars.
Inside the girls' tent—
Everyone appeared asleep.
Except three people.
Care slowly opened her eyes.
Mia sat up beside her.
Lyra whispered,
"Is it time?"
Care nodded.
"Two minutes."
JJ murmured sleepily.
"What are you three doing…"
Ash whispered,
"Go back to sleep."
JJ grumbled and turned over.
Outside—
Ace stood nervously beside the fire.
Ren, Kavin, MJ, Alex, Percy and Keifer were hiding behind the nearby sand ridge.
Percy whispered excitedly,
"THIS IS BETTER THAN A MOVIE."
Keifer covered his mouth.
"Shut up."
Back inside the girls' tent—
Care gently shook Zein's shoulder.
"Zein."
Zein groaned.
"Mmm…"
Mia whispered.
"Wake up."
Zein slowly opened her eyes.
"What happened?"
Care smirked.
"Someone's waiting."
Zein frowned.
"At this hour?"
Lyra pushed her lightly toward the exit.
"Go."
Still confused, Zein stepped outside.
The cool desert wind brushed against her face.
Then she saw him.
Ace stood near the fire.
For a moment she froze.
"Ace?"
Ace walked toward her slowly.
His voice was soft.
"I wanted to talk."
Zein looked around.
"At two in the morning?"
Ace smiled slightly.
"The desert is quieter at night."
He gestured toward the dunes.
"Come."
They walked slowly across the sand.
Behind the dune—
Twenty students secretly followed.
Percy crawled dramatically through the sand.
"This is history."
Ren sighed.
"We're spying on our own friends."
Percy whispered.
"I regret nothing."
Back on the dune—
Ace and Zein sat on the sand.
The stars above them were endless.
For a moment neither spoke.
Finally Zein broke the silence.
"You dragged me out here for something serious."
Ace looked at the stars.
"You remember our first night in Hell University?"
Zein nodded.
"The Bloody Night."
Ace nodded slowly.
"That was the night we decided to protect each other."
Zein smiled faintly.
"Six months ago."
Ace looked at her.
"Six months of surviving that place together."
Zein's voice softened.
"You saved me three times."
Ace shook his head.
"You saved me four."
They both laughed quietly.
Ace took a deep breath.
Then finally spoke.
"Zein… those nights were brutal."
His voice became steadier.
"But the only reason I kept going…"
He looked directly at her.
"…was you."
Zein froze.
Ace continued.
"I thought it was just survival."
He smiled faintly.
"But somewhere along the way…"
His voice softened.
"I fell in love with you."
The desert went silent.
Zein's eyes widened.
Behind the dune—
Percy grabbed Keifer's arm.
"HE SAID IT."
Keifer shoved him.
"QUIET."
Back in the moonlight—
Zein stared at Ace.
"You're serious?"
Ace nodded.
"Completely."
For a moment she said nothing.
Then slowly—
She smiled.
"You idiot."
Ace blinked.
"What?"
Zein laughed softly.
"I've been in love with you for months."
Ace stared.
"Wait—what?"
Behind the dune the entire group gasped silently.
Mia whispered.
"I knew it."
Zein shook her head smiling.
"Six months protecting each other every night…"
She looked at him warmly.
"How could I not fall for you?"
Ace laughed in disbelief.
Then—
Zein pulled him forward and kissed him.
Behind the dune—
Percy exploded.
"YES!"
Everyone immediately dragged him down into the sand.
Ren groaned.
"You ruined the moment."
Gorya laughed quietly.
Lyra whispered excitedly to Alex.
"Finally."
Care watched quietly from the back of the group.
A small smile on her face.
Cole stood beside her.
He noticed.
"Happy?"
Care nodded softly.
"They deserved that."
Across the dune—
Ace and Zein were still sitting under the stars.
For the first time in months—
no Bloody Night.
No danger.
Just the quiet desert.
And a love that had survived Hell itself.
