Chapter 7 - The Price of Power

The battlefield was silent.

Half the city was gone.

The ground was covered in bodies.

Black smoke and golden light still floated in the air like ghosts that refused to leave.

Lin Ye stood in the middle of the ruins, breathing heavily. His body was covered in wounds. His left arm was still broken, and there was a hole in his shoulder where a spear of light had pierced through.

But his eyes were still burning with dark energy.

Across from him, the Heavenly Envoy stood in the air, completely unharmed.

"You cannot win," the envoy said. "Your power comes from borrowed energy. Your body cannot handle it forever."

Lin Ye wiped the blood from his mouth and smiled.

"Maybe," he said. "But I don't need forever."

He stepped forward again.

The Difference Between Them

The Heavenly Envoy raised its hand and a massive sword of light appeared above the sky.

"This world belongs to Heaven," the envoy said. "All power, all energy, all laws — belong to Heaven."

Lin Ye stopped walking.

Then he asked a question:

"Then what belongs to me?"

The Heavenly Envoy answered immediately.

"Nothing."

Lin Ye was silent for a few seconds.

Then he nodded slowly.

"Good," he said.

"If I have nothing… then I have nothing to lose."

The dark energy around his body suddenly became more violent.

Far away, in the void, Mo Wudao watched this scene and said quietly:

"Good. Very good."

"A demon is not someone who loves evil."

"A demon is someone who has nothing left to protect."

The Second Form

The Demonic Script mark on Lin Ye's chest began to spread across his body like black cracks.

Pain.

Unimaginable pain.

Lin Ye fell to one knee, screaming.

The Heavenly Envoy did not attack. It simply watched.

"Your body is breaking," the envoy said. "Your power is killing you."

Lin Ye laughed while screaming.

"Of course it is," he said. "Power always has a price."

Suddenly, the black cracks stopped spreading.

They began forming strange patterns across his skin — like armor made of darkness.

A pair of black horns slowly grew from his head.

Dark energy exploded outward, pushing back all the angels nearby.

The Heavenly Envoy finally looked serious.

"New form detected," it said. "Energy level rising rapidly."

Lin Ye stood up again.

His eyes were no longer human.

Demon Warrior Form.

The Realization

In Heaven, inside the Hall of Judgment, the angels were watching everything through another mirror.

"This is bad," one of them said.

"This demonic system allows mortals to evolve during battle," said another.

"It converts pain, loss, and near-death experiences into evolution," said a third.

The six-winged angel spoke slowly:

"This is not a cultivation method."

"This is an evolution system."

Silence filled the hall.

That meant something terrifying.

If this system spread…

War would create demons.

Suffering would create demons.

Injustice would create demons.

Oppression would create demons.

And the universe had a lot of those things.

Back to the Battlefield

Lin Ye disappeared and reappeared in front of the Heavenly Envoy, moving faster than before. He punched upward, and the envoy blocked with its light shield.

BOOM.

This time, the envoy moved back slightly.

Lin Ye started laughing.

"Now we're talking," he said.

The Heavenly Envoy looked at him and said:

"You are not the one I should be concerned about."

Lin Ye stopped.

The envoy looked up into the sky — into the void beyond the裂.

"The one I should be concerned about… is the one who created this system."

In the Void

Mo Wudao was sitting on his throne, watching the battle like a man watching a chess game.

Next to him, the Great Demonic Script floated in the air, its pages turning by themselves.

On each page, names were appearing.

People from different worlds.

People who had found fragments of the Demonic Script.

Mo Wudao looked at the names and said:

"One world is not enough."

"One demon is not enough."

"One war is not enough."

He waved his hand, and more black lights flew into the universe.

"If Heaven rules through order…"

"Then I will rule through chaos."

He then said a very important line for the story:

"Heaven fears chaos because chaos cannot be controlled."

"But what they don't understand is…"

"Chaos can be guided."

He looked back at the battlefield where Lin Ye was fighting the Heavenly Envoy.

"And I am the one guiding it."

The Price

Back on the battlefield, Lin Ye's Demon Warrior form began to crack. His body could not handle the power for long.

The Demonic Script mark on his chest began to burn, and words appeared in his mind:

"Every power has a price."

"To gain more power…"

"You must lose something precious."

Lin Ye fell to his knees again.

The Heavenly Envoy raised its spear.

"This battle is over," it said.

Lin Ye looked up at the sky and asked quietly:

"Ancestor…"

"What should I give up?"

In the void, Mo Wudao answered calmly:

"That is your decision."

"That is the difference between my path and Heaven's path."

"Heaven demands faith."

"I demand a price."

Lin Ye closed his eyes.

He thought about his father.

He thought about his childhood.

He thought about the small hope he once had — that maybe one day he could live a normal life.

Then he said:

"I give up my future."

"From today onward…"

"I live only for revenge."

The Demonic Script glowed.

And Lin Ye's power exploded again.

The Heavenly Envoy realized something too late.

This war… was not just a battle.

It was an experiment.

And Heaven had just become part of it.
