Brian and Yuno stood still, watching the crowd leaving the Grimoire Tower thin out until no one remained; only then did the two of them temporarily leave the area. Waiting until they had confirmed that there was no longer anyone around, Brian and Yuno dared to approach the Grimoire Tower again late at night.
And luck smiled upon the two of them.
Since it was now midnight, no one was awake to guard the Grimoire Tower, or perhaps it could be said that this place required no guards from the very beginning. The nature of Grimoires is that they are books created by magic power; they are formed naturally, without human intervention, much like normal weather phenomena such as rainstorms or snowfall.
Even if one were to take a Grimoire out of the Grimoire Tower, the thief who took it would receive nothing but an empty book with no writing on it. Brian did not know whether Grimoires that had not yet chosen a master would vanish over time if taken from the tower by thieves. However, based on the fact that Grimoire Towers have existed for thousands of years alongside humans and remain full, perhaps Grimoires taken out in such a violent manner truly do vanish.
"Tsh... The door is locked."
Brian walked with Yuno to the entrance of the Grimoire Tower; he clicked his tongue upon seeing the door leading inside locked with a primitive padlock.
"Let me."
Yuno stepped forward, wind-attribute magic power slowly appearing in his palm. With a light touch, the lock was immediately sliced into many small pieces, falling slowly to the floor without making a sound.
Brian could have handled this lock by creating a key, but letting Yuno do it made no difference. After all, the two of them had no intention of closing the door politely or staying here after obtaining their Grimoires.
"This place is still the same as back then..."
Brian immediately exclaimed upon stepping inside the Grimoire Tower. When he was small, Sister Lily had led him and the other children from the orphanage here to watch others receive their Grimoires. After so many years, this place had not changed at all. Grimoires lay still on bookshelves covering the entire interior space, reaching very high, making the observer feel as though they were lost in a place like a treasury of human knowledge.
The sight here was truly magnificent, but Brian did not forget his main purpose for coming.
"Yuno, let's get our Grimoires and leave."
Brian spoke, walking near Yuno, who was standing dazed, looking up at the stacks of books arranged on the surrounding shelves.
"Yeah..."
Yuno simply replied. Afterward, he and Brian stepped into the central area of the Grimoire Tower.
As soon as the two of them stepped into the appropriate range, the entire tower began to emit a strange magic power, making both of them feel that something was coming to them—something that had just become deeply linked to the two of them.
Following that, two Grimoires emitting a blinding golden light slowly flew out from above the bookshelves. Brian and Yuno's eyes were fixed on the two Grimoires; they stared at them intently, not looking away even though the light they emitted was extremely bright.
And so, responding to the undisguised expectation in those eyes, the blinding light emitted by the two Grimoires gradually softened until they turned into two distinct colors for each book. One emitted an earth-yellow light, slowly flying toward Brian. One radiated a green hue, flying toward Yuno.
The light on the two Grimoires gradually faded. Right at this moment, Brian and Yuno each held a Grimoire of their own in their hands. And the symbol on the Grimoire of the two of them... was the four-leaf clover!
The three leaves of the three-leaf clover each represent something: Faith, Hope, and Love. Within the fourth leaf, there is Luck. The possessor of a four-leaf clover Grimoire is said to possess immense fortune, helping them achieve miracles that ordinary people could never reach. Only those who possess outstanding magical talent, with special abilities that make others turn toward them and watch, are chosen by the four-leaf clover Grimoire.
Brian and Yuno—both of these individuals were chosen by the four-leaf clover Grimoire. Magic power, talent, the favor of mana, and a determination with fierce ambition—both of them possessed all of those elite qualities.
"I knew it..."
Brian held his Grimoire in his hand, wearing a smile that anyone seeing would know he was in a state of extreme excitement. His eyes looked toward Yuno, unable to hide the fire of ambition burning in his soul.
"We are the chosen ones."
Saying these words, the magic power within him suddenly exploded—not too large for those outside to notice, but enough to make the Grimoire Tower vibrate. If it were a normal day, Brian would never act so impulsively and unnecessarily. But today was a special day; he wanted to be a bit willful.
As a person reincarnated into the world of Black Clover, Brian was not like anyone else in this world. He believed himself to be special—a uniqueness no less than Yuno's special origin. Since lying in his cradle, Brian believed he could do something great, that he would become a great figure in this magical world.
Brian's magic power was not inferior to Yuno's, and was even slightly superior. His magical talent was also no less, and his magical combat ability was even a bit stronger than Yuno's. Now that Brian had also received the four-leaf clover Grimoire that Yuno possessed, there was no reason for him to think he would be unable to do what Yuno could do.
Standing beside Brian, Yuno could not help but frown when he saw the look Brian was giving him. The other's eyes now contained an unshakeable determination.
"Hey, Yuno."
Brian spoke up at this time, "Do you still remember when I chased those thugs away to get your necklace back?"
Hearing Brian's question, the memory that Yuno always held onto, never letting it gather a speck of dust, suddenly appeared in his mind. A snowy day, two children standing under the moonlight, swearing to each other a determination—a great dream that perhaps no one in this world could truly achieve.
"Of course."
Yuno gave a laugh, his eyes looking straight into Brian's burning golden eyes, "You and I swore to each other that we would become the Wizard King, that we would change this world."
Saying that, Yuno reached his hand out into the air, directing his fist toward Brian, waiting for his close friend to respond. Seeing Yuno's fist in mid-air, the smile on Brian's face shone even brighter.
"You are an extremely special person, Yuno."
Brian put his fist out, bumping it against Yuno's extended arm, "I wondered if I could keep up with you in the future, but today I no longer have any doubt about that."
"What do you mean?"
Yuno kept the smile on his face; though he didn't understand, he did not suspect Brian's words had any ill meaning.
"I have learned how special I am."
Brian continued speaking. Just then, a blinding light once again began to emit from above his and Yuno's heads.
"I knew I was different from everyone around me, and now, I know exactly what that difference is."
Brian looked at the light shining on the shelf in the Grimoire Tower; Yuno followed his gaze, and he could not believe what he was witnessing. From within the bookshelf, a Grimoire flew out, rushing straight toward Brian. Its light was no less than the two four-leaf clover Grimoires from moments ago.
When the light softened, Brian and Yuno finally saw the appearance of this extraordinary Grimoire clearly. It was not a Grimoire like any other, nor was it a four-leaf clover Grimoire, but a Grimoire that had no cover. What was in front of Brian was just two pages with an extremely special spell already written on them. When Brian learned the effect of this spell, he felt very clearly that his future was brighter than ever.
"Though it might be a bit redundant, but..."
Brian looked over at Yuno, who was still fist-bumping him, "Yuno, do you still have the determination to pursue the dream of becoming a great person, to become my rival on that difficult path?"
Without needing to ask this question, Brian already knew what Yuno's answer was, and indeed it was so. Yuno did not hesitate to confirm his determination once again to Brian.
"I will become the Wizard King, the one who will change this world!"
Just like in the past, two teenagers stood inside the Grimoire Tower, fists touching, swearing together to pursue the dreams of both men.
