The roar echoed through the entire forest. The giant foot's descent kicked up a cloud of dust that blotted out the sky. Beasts of all kinds fled in terror.
The scene was utter chaos.
A golden magical sphere floated in midair. In the instant the giant foot had fallen, Chase had reacted quickly. He had put up a barrier to protect the Edo Chase team from being blown away by the shockwave.
"What is this..."
Edo Freed and the others stared at the suddenly appearing white giant foot. Their faces were full of shock. They never imagined the thing sealed in the altar would be so massive.
The diameter of the foot was at least a kilometer. Its surface was clearly visible. Its height was even more staggering. It reached up into the clouds, like a giant pillar connecting earth and sky.
Before this incomprehensibly giant thing, they looked like ants. Like they could be crushed at any moment.
Fortunately, the giant foot did not seem to have a will of its own. It remained still, more like a structure than a living thing.
But could humans really have built something like this?
"The magic power here is so dense. Compared to this, the entire capital seems insignificant."
Edo Chase held a device that was blinking. His voice was excited. "If I am not wrong, this is what we have been looking for."
"A white giant foot standing on the earth. I never thought something only mentioned in ancient texts actually exists."
Edo Gildarts's breathing quickened. He did not look away.
As a scholar who studied Edolas's geology, he had guessed what it was. But the ancient texts had little information. He did not know why it existed.
"Senior from the other world, do you know what this is?" Edo Laxus asked.
Everyone looked at Chase.
"I have a guess. But we need to go to the top to be sure." Chase pointed up.
He had never seen this thing in Edolas. But it reminded him of something from the original story.
Face.
The Council's ultimate magical weapon. In Elentear, where magic was so dense it created the White Mage, Face appeared as giant hands growing from the ground.
In Earthland, Face was a giant face. In Elentear, it was giant hands. In Edolas, maybe it was giant feet.
"Then please take us to the top, Chase," Edo Gildarts said.
Edo Freed and the others were also excited. After two and a half years, they would finally have an answer.
"I... I just developed a fear of heights. I will stay here and wait for you."
Edo Chase crouched down and covered his head.
No one was surprised. They looked away in embarrassment.
Chase did not give his counterpart a chance to refuse. He waved his finger. The golden sphere shook. It shot up into the sky.
"AAAAH! We are going to die!"
Edo Chase screamed.
Soon, the forest below was just a green blur. They could see mountains and rivers.
The sphere broke through the clouds. They reached the top of the giant foot.
The wind was strong. The air was thin. Edo Gildarts and the others felt uncomfortable.
They had never been this high before. They had no magic.
But they did not have time to enjoy the view. What they saw was even more shocking.
A giant face. Too big for the clouds to hide. A white landmass shaped like a human face.
Just as Chase had guessed. This was Edolas's Face.
"The top of the giant foot is something so strange..."
"Hey, Gildarts. Is this really something that should exist in our world?"
They were speechless.
"Look! There is a floating island on the forehead!" Edo Evergreen said.
They looked. There was an island floating in the air. It looked lonely against the smooth white face.
"That must be where we find our answers," Chase said.
The golden sphere flew toward the island.
The island was bare. It was covered in craters and ruins. There were no plants. Only some moss.
They landed.
The island was not big. The ruins were dark red. The only sound was the wind. It was quiet. Too quiet.
Edo Bickslow had been making fun of Edo Chase for being scared. But now, he was scared too. He walked behind Chase.
He saw bones. Skulls. Buried under the ruins.
The ruins were dark red because they were stained with blood.
There had been a terrible battle here.
"No. Looking at the bones, there were several battles. Over a long time."
Edo Gildarts was not as scared as the others. He examined the bones.
Then, he stood up. "Be careful. There might be others on this island."
"They are already here," Chase said.
He clenched his fists. His magic power rose.
Before Edo Gildarts had realized the danger, Chase had already sensed it.
CRUNCH. CRUNCH.
Footsteps came from a pile of bones and rocks. Slow. Steady.
The silence made them sound even more ominous.
Edo Chase was terrified. Chase was calm. He was ready to fight.
He had not expected to get new cards in Edolas. If he found a strong opponent, it would be a bonus.
Even if he lost, he could get everyone out safely.
There was no one in Edolas who could kill him instantly.
Then, the owner of the footsteps appeared.
Chase was no longer calm. His whole body tensed.
The setting sun was blood red. It cast a long shadow.
A tall man stood on the hill. He was covered in scars. He wore a necklace of bones.
His torn black cape fluttered. His dark blue hair was unkempt. His dark face had triangle marks on the sides.
There was no doubt. This man was...
"The World Guardian, Acnologia?!" they all shouted.
Chase, who had been ready to summon Slifer: "???"
They were right about the name. But "World Guardian"? What was that?
