Elias stepped back with both hands raised near his chest.
"Easy, we are not here for your kid as a target. We are looking for someone with a shard exposed through the body, and I am guessing that means your son."
The man kept himself between Elias and the room behind him. His shoulders were narrow under the coat, but the stance belonged to someone who had held doors shut before. Elias lowered one hand.
"When you said too, who else came for him? I am sorry that happened, but I need to understand what kind of danger followed you here."
The man watched Elias's hand as if it might become a weapon.
"Start with names, because my name is Elias Kael and I came with the rescue team, not the people who hurt him."
He offered a hand. The man stared at it long enough that Yui shifted his weight beside Elias.
