Chapter 18 - Professionals vs. Pretenders

The Assault:

The Grand Commander stood on the roof, his cape billowing. "Target locked! Fire the Aegis-Buster Railguns! Show these 'Gods' the power of human ingenuity!"

BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

Three massive pillars of concentrated mana-steel shot toward the floating temple in the sky. Each one was designed to pierce a Level 9 shield. The world held its breath.

The Result:

On the screen, the Alpha simply raised a finger. A shimmering gold ripple appeared. The railgun slugs—worth billions of dollars each—didn't just stop; they melted into liquid slag before they even touched the temple.

The Alpha: (Voice booming with laughter) "Stupid monkeys. You think metal and sparks can touch the Architects of the Universe?"

The Alpha flicked his wrist. A wave of kinetic force blasted back down. The Association helicopters were tossed around like paper planes, and the "God-Killer" cannons on the roof exploded into scrap metal. The Grand Commander was thrown back, his expensive armor cracked and smoking.

The Courtyard Chaos:

"It didn't even scratch them!" Lucian screamed, clutching his head. "The Association's strongest weapon... it was like a fly hitting a windshield!"

Serina and Evelyn were staring up in horror as the golden clouds began to turn a dark, angry red. The "Budget Gods" were getting tired of the games.

Evelyn: (Turning to Alex, her voice small) "Alex... the professionals failed. If they can't stop them... who can?"

She looked at him, and for a second, she didn't see a slacker. She saw someone who looked bored by the very thing that was terrifying the world. Her hand subconsciously tightened on his sleeve. Please... just stay near me, she thought, her heart racing.

The "Inconvenience":

Allen: (Blowing on a hot churro) "Hey, Alex. The shockwave from those cannons just knocked over my napkins. And look... the dust from the explosion is getting on the sugar."

Alex: (Looking at his dusty churro, his smile slowly disappearing) "You know, I was fine with them being loud. I was fine with the bad fashion. I was even fine with the 'Heavenly Spear' lighter."

Alex stood up, dusting off his pants. The air around him didn't turn gold or red. It just became still. Not a single leaf moved. The screaming of the students seemed to fade into a vacuum.

Alex: "But getting dust on my snack? That's where I draw the line."

The Intervention:

Alex started walking toward the center of the courtyard, right in front of the kneeling Grand Commander.

Grand Commander: (Coughing blood, looking up) "Kid! Get back! It's suicide! We couldn't even dent their shield with a railgun! What are you going to do with a half-eaten churro?!"

Alex: "I'm going to show you why you should never trust a 'God' who needs a floating temple to look tall."

Alex: (Yelling up at the sky) "HEY! LAME-O! ALPHA-BET SOUP! YEAH, YOU!"

The giant face on the screen stopped its monologue. The Alpha's masked head tilted down toward the Academy. "WHO DARES SPEAK TO—"

Alex: "Shut it. You're boring. Your mana smells like cheap perfume and desperation. If you don't come down here and apologize for the napkins, I'm going to come up there... and it won't be for tea."

The Climax:

The Alpha was silent for three seconds. Then, the sky literally split.

"THEN PERISH, MORTAL!"

A beam of pure annihilation—ten times stronger than the previous bolt—shot down directly at Alex's head.

Evelyn: "ALEX, NO!"

Alex: (Doesn't even look up. He just holds up his half-eaten churro.)

The beam hit. But instead of an explosion, the light seemed to get sucked into the churro. The snack absorbed the entire world-ending attack like a sponge, glowing with a soft golden light.

Alex: (Taking a bite of the now-glowing churro) "Huh. Extra crispy. Thanks for the reheat."

He looked at the camera with a dark, terrifying smirk that made the Alpha actually step back on the screen.

Alex: "My turn."
