Lavenia's POV
I must've been sleeping so soundly that it took a ray of light streaming into the room to wake me up.
This time, I wasn't in Rayden's arms—he was nowhere to be found. He never ceases to surprise me with so many things—his life beyond being a businessman and an alpha, his preferences, and last night.
He, who had always seemed obsessed with me and so possessive, refused when I kissed him with the intention of making love. He held back, and for some reason, a part of my heart didn't feel rejected by him. Instead, I felt protected.
Next, I have no idea what he did after I fell asleep—maybe he satisfied himself or whatever—but one thing's for sure: he's not by my side right now.
I hurriedly got up and headed for the door when I heard a knock. Not sure if it was Rayden, I opened it half-heartedly. Sure enough, it was only Rayden's assistant standing before me now.
"Miss Lavenia," he greeted me.
"Where's Rayden?" I asked.
