Leon's Pov
By the time I got home, it was already past midnight.
The drive back was quiet, but not the kind that calms you down. Every thought in my head kept overlapping with the next one until none of it even felt organized anymore.
Rico.
The maintenance supervisor.
The picture.
Ava.
The way Rico said people were starting to notice her.
I hated that sentence more the longer I thought about it.
The gates opened slowly as the car pulled into the driveway. I looked out the window automatically and immediately noticed one of the guards missing from his usual position near the east side entrance.
That made my expression tighten slightly.
I stepped out before Marvin could open the door properly.
The second thing I noticed was the replacement guard.
New face.
Too stiff.
Trying too hard not to look nervous.
I walked toward the entrance slowly.
"Where's Daniel?" I asked without stopping.
The guard hesitated.
"Family emergency, sir."
Interesting.
