The next morning was worse. I had barely finished dressing when the first messenger arrived at my door. By the time I reached my office, three more were already waiting outside. And that was only the beginning. Everyone seemed to need something from me.
My desk, which had been reasonably organized the previous evening, was now buried beneath an avalanche of parchment. Scrolls were stacked in crooked piles across the surface, several sealed letters sat waiting for my signature, and two clerks stood near the door holding additional documents like they were afraid to put them down.
I stopped in the doorway and stared at the chaos. For a brief moment, I considered turning around and walking straight back out. Unfortunately, being Alpha meant that I could not afford that luxury.
"These arrived before dawn," Tala said, gesturing toward the piles of paperwork. "Most require your direct approval."
