Jade's eyes fluttered open, fear written all over her face, almost like waking from a dream. He was right there in front of her, and although it was out of fear, she wrapped her hands around him. Van, who had also been worried, exhaled first. He was hesitant but then hugged her back, relieved that at least she had woken up.
The nurses were amazed, their eyes fixed on the scene like something no one had expected to see. They exchanged glances, wondering who Jade was to the boss that he cared so much, enough to receive a hug from her.
"Are you okay, Jade?" came his voice, low and soothing. Only then did Jade's eyes widen in realization. She was hugging him. The moment it hit her, she withdrew from him and shifted farther back into the bed. At first, Van assumed that she was going to apologize, and he did not want her to.
"No, no, it is okay," he said, reaching out his hand to her. "It is okay, I do not mind. I just want to know if you are okay."
