Chapter 28 - Time Is A Slippery Slope.

It's now a new week later. So… one week has passed since he and Bella enrolled. The days have passed quite uneventfully.

Go to school, have class, lunch, class, drive home. Nothing special has happened.

Alice still asks him how his day was after school, and sends good nights and good mornings.

Silas sat on the edge of the bed and started out the window. Finally we are on plot territory again.

He stood up and walked into the bathroom. He now had a routine.

Wake up, shower, eat breakfast and drive to school. Simple and effective.

Silas was finished with the shower and walked over to the floor to ceiling windows and looked out.

He was standing it just a towel draped around his shoulders… he was overlooking the view on some alpha shit… (yeah it hurt to write that)

He walked into his mostly empty walk-in closet and looked at the sparse clothing.

Ehh~

He has been around most of these clothes… Silas looked at the clothes and found only two pieces of clothing he hadn't used. A pair of blue jeans and a dark red zip hoodie… you know one of those vintage 90s looking ones.

He hadn't really felt it… 'cause it's deep red, and he isn't a dark red type of guy. But… now he was kinda desperate, he felt like it was too early to start to wear the other clothes.

He sighed and grabbed them.

But!

After putting them on? The outfit was looking good. Not as flashy as he had thought. He was overreacting.

Silas walked downstairs and headed for the kitchen to eat his "beloved" sandwich. He hated that lump of dry wheat.

Silas finished making his sandwich and sat down at the kitchen island and took a bite of the sandwich.

He took out his phone and checked the messages. There was one from Alice and Kate… she started to send messages sometime last week.

He just responded politely back.

He put his phone in his pocket and took the last bite of the sandwich. Ohh no! How sad. Noo.

He stood up and put the plate in the dishwasher and picket up his keys of the kitchen island.

Walking towards the door he heard Viktor behind him.

"See you later, master."

"Yeah, don't cause trouble."

Silas said as he closed the door behind him. He walked over to his car and hopped in.

Time to pick up Kate. He has now driven Kate to school everyday, since their agreement.

Forks.

Kate House.

"Kate don't occupy the bathroom for this long." Sophie said with an exasperated expression.

"Stop stressing me and it will go faster." Kate responded.

Sophie against all odds listened.

A few minutes later Kate emerged.

"Finally, what took so long." Sophie said annoyed as she passed her into the bathroom.

Kate shook her head as she walked to her room. She needed to pick out clothes.

A few minutes later she had picked out an outfit and walked out of her room, where she was met with Sophie.

"Are you taking this long because of that boy that has been driving you?"

Kate flung her head to the side.

"How did you know about that?"

Sophie rolled her eyes.

"The house has windows, duuhh~"

Kate looked a little embarrassed.

Sophie leaned in and teased.

"Is he your boyfriend?"

Kate shook her head.

"No, no it's not like that… we are just friends."

Sophie nodded with her hand on her chin.

"Yes, yes, I see, just friends."

"Anyway… is he handsome?"

Kate looked at her with a raised eyebrow.

"Didn't the house have windows?"

Sophie rolled her eyes.

"I can just see that he is male, and drives a nice car, I don't have super vision."

Kate breathed a sigh of relief. If her sister knew how Silas looked she would never hear the end of it.

"Well, he's kinda handsome, not much." Kate lied through her teeth.

Sophie looked disbelieving.

"Then can I meet him? He has been driving you for nearly a week now, without fail, to and back from school."

"I have to at least know how he looks so I can tell the police if something happens."

Kate shook her head.

"No, we don't have time, and I don't think he wants to meet you."

Sophie looked offended.

"Why not!? Everybody likes me."

No. Certainly not.

"You have to let me see him or I will tell mom. You know how she gets."

Kate looked at her in surprise. She laid the mom card. She hated snitches… sigh, it's true what they say. You live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Kate was torn.

"Can… can I speak with him first? So after school, when he drops me off?"

Sophie looked thoughtful.

"Sure, I guess that works."

Kate sighed and walked downstairs like a deflated balloon. She was defeated.

Just when she had downed a glass of water in expiration a hong rang out.

Kate hurried to the door, grabbed her backpack on the way and ran out.

"See you later." Sophie shouted behind her. Kate felt a chill run down her spine.

Silas sat in the driver's seat and was changing stations when the door opened.

He looked over and saw her expression. He looked behind her and asked.

"Do you have a serial killer hunting you?"

Kate looked over.

"What!? No!"

Silas looked disbelieving.

"Then why do you look like you've been hunted?"

Kate shook her head like a rattle.

"You are imagining."

Silas looked back at the stereo and finally found the station he was looking for.

"Let's go." Silas drove off.

….

Mason County

Grisham Mill.

A man was running for his life.

Three elusive figures were flashing behind him.

As he exited a door and arrived outside he was caught between the three figures.

Ahhh~

A scream rang out and the guard was no more.

Silas drove into the parking lot and looked around for a parking spot. After some looking he found one.

As he and Kate stepped out, he spotted Alice across the parking lot.

She was smiling and waving at them.

Silas closed the car door and made his way over with Kate.

"Hello Silas, have you had a good morning?"

"Yeah, you?"

Alice nodded.

"Yeah, it's been good."

Kate on the side was selectively ignored by Alice.

"Let's go, your math class starts soon." Alice said and she grabbed Silas's hand.

Then as they arrived at Silas's locker Alice asked again.

"I know I asked over text but how has your weekend been?"

Silas took out his math book, calculator, pen and eraser.

"It's been calm, I've been mostly resting, the move has been quite taxing."

Of course this was a lie, he just had nothing to do. But he can't say then 'cause then he might be invited to stuff… which would be less than ideal.

Silas closed his locker and turned around, he looked back and forth and realized that Kate had disappeared somewhere.

"What are you looking for?" Alice tilted her head and asked in confusion.

Silas looked at her and smiled wryly.

"Nothing."

Alice then seemed to remember something.

"Are you still sitting with us this week? Edward is back, but the table is big enough for you and your entourage."

Silas nodded.

"As long as I'm still welcome." Of course he knew he was, all the Cullens he had met so far liked him. Emmett, Alice, Jasper, Ella and even Rosalie liked him. Although she was always reserved… she thinks I'm human.

Alice smiled.

"If you aren't welcome we can sit at another table."

Silas nodded.

"I need to get to math class."

Alice nodded.

"I'll walk you."

With that they walked side by side towards the math classroom.

Arriving at the math class, Alice said goodbye and hurried away. She also had class.

Silas walked into the classroom and saw Emmett already seated. He walked over and sat down.

"Welcome brother, has your weekend been good?"

Silas smiled and nodded.

"It's been quite enjoyable."

Emmett nodded.

"Yours?" Silas asked.

Emmett let out a laugh.

"Mine's been good as well."

Just then the teacher walked in.

Class start.
