Walking towards the house Silas couldn't help observing.
The garden was poorly taken care of… but maybe it's just Forks weather.
The fence was peeling paint, and so was the house.
Furthest down where the wood met the foundation the paint was cracking and peeling.
The house had probably seen its best days, unless someone took a few weeks to repaint and switch out some wood panels… its probably just going to continue deteriorating.
As they stepped onto the porch, Silas looked around, one thing that was positive was that it at least wasn't like a hoarder house. It was clean, no thrash or similar laying around.
Just as Kate was reaching for the door it flung open.
"Hello!"
It was Sophie.
Silas looked over, as he saw the woman standing in the doorway he raised an eyebrow.
She was objectively attractive. She was looking at us with a beaming smile that hid some mischievousness.
Sophie's gaze ran over the two, and then it stopped on SIlas.
"You must be Kate's friend I've heard so much about."
Silas raised an eyebrow and looked over at Kate.
"Really? You've heard a lot about me?"
Sophie smiled and nodded.
"Ooh yes, Kate talks about you all the time."
Silas felt incredulous. This can't be right? Is this still the same Kate?
"Really?"
Just then Kate stepped in.
"No! I don't… Sophie stop, you're embarrassing me and making Silas uncomfortable."
Sophie looked over.
"I am?"
"She is?"
Both Sophie and Silas were surprised. How come I didn't know?
Silas looked over at Sophie and she looked over at him, as their eyes met they burst out laughing.
"Haha, it's more like it's you Kate that is feeling embarrassed at being exposed." Sophie said.
Kate scowled.
"Stop!"
"You promised to be normal?"
Sophie looked at her.
"Then what am I? Also I didn't promise that."
Silas observed the increasingly fierce confrontation and felt that he needed to step in and smooth things over.
"Alright, it's fine, Kate it's alright, I understand she is only joking."
Kate felt relieved… but then, something felt wrong.
"Well…" But before she could continue Sophie interrupted her.
"She might not be talking about you, but she takes multiple times longer in the bathroom in the morning since you started to drive her."
Silas smiled.
Kate didn't respond, she just lowered her head.
Sophie smiled and led Silas inside.
"Here Silas, let's talk inside."
Silas nodded and walked inside.
Arriving inside it was completely different from the situation outside, it was clean, and nice. You could tell it was being well taken care of.
Silas followed Sophie into the living room.
"Here, you can sit anywhere." Sophie said as she pointed at the sofa.
Silas nodded and sat down on one end of the sofa.
Sophie smiled and sat down on an arm chair on the side, she was now facing him diagonally.
Kate walked in and sat down next to Silas on the sofa, she seemed a little nervous, like anything Sophie did could ruin her friendship with Silas… her only friend.
Sophie looked at Silas with interest.
"So? Silas, are you and Kate dating?"
Kate lowered her head in embarrassment.
Silas smiled, how straightforward.
"No, not as far as I'm aware, we're just friends."
Sophie didn't look convinced, but when she saw Kate's disappointed look she understood.
"So? You drive Kate every morning and you're just friends?"
Silas nodded.
"Indeed, I don't have many friends, so I have to take good care of the few I have."
Sophie raised an eyebrow. Few friends? She knew Kate was a bit of a loner, she never brought home female or male friends, she never cared for clothes or make up, like most girls.
It seems loners attract.
"Well, that's good enough for me."
"As long as you could give me your parents phone number in case anything happens, no offense, but I only have one little sister and I would be sad if anything happened to her."
Silas nodded, he understood. But his parents phone number? That was… difficult.
Sophie saw his expression and furrowed her brows.
"What, you don't want to?"
Silas shook his head.
"My parents are dead, it would be difficult for you to call them even if I gave you their number."
The room fell silent.
Kate looked over at Silas… she didn't know that. Now that she thinks about it… she doesn't really know much about Silas.
Sophie's frozen face turned embarrassed.
"Ohh, sorry, I… I didn't mean…"
Silas shook his head.
"It's fine."
"If you want to, I can give you my guardian's phone number."
Sophie felt a little embarrassed… but she needed a phone number to someone, otherwise who could she complain to if something happened to Kate?
"Yes… that will do."
Silas nodded and picked up his phone.
He was conflicted, should he choose Mikael, Viktor… or Cessian as guardian?
Mikael might be the best.
Silas sent a quick text to Mikael.
Silas text: If someone calls you asking if you are my guardian, you play along, alright?
Silas looked up at Sophie.
"Alright, are you ready?"
Sophie nodded.
Silas started to read Mikael's phone number aloud and Sophie typed it into her phone.
"Done?"
"Yes, thank you… and again sorry, I didn't mean to…"
Silas nodded.
"It's fine."
Just then Silas phone vibrated.
Mikael text: Alright master, don't worry, I will play my role perfectly.
Sophie looked up from her phone.
"Alright, why don't you two go to Kate's room and talk, I just need to contact your guardian to see that everything is alright."
Silas nodded and stood up.
Kate stood up and looked flustered. Her room? It wasn't cleaned!
Silas looked over at Kate and smiled.
"Lead the way."
Kate nodded and walked past him towards the stairs leading to the second floor.
Silas followed.
As they walked up Silas heard Sophie call Mikael.
While he was still lost in thought they arrived at Kate's room.
"Silas? We're here."
Silas looked over and saw a door decorated with some children's paintings.
He smiled and teased.
"You could paint as a child."
Kate shook her head.
"No, no, no."
Silas just smiled.
"Aren't you gonna let me in?"
Kate looked embarrassed.
"I haven't cleaned."
Silas shook his head.
"It's fine, I don't mind."
Kate reluctantly opened her door and led Silas inside.
As they stepped inside Silas was greeted by a surprisingly clean room.
When she said she hadn't cleaned he thought she meant like clothes everywhere… but it just looked lived in.
"It looked fine to me." Silas said.
Kate nodded. She was still a little embarrassed. She didn't know how much she should clean before bringing someone over.
Silas looked around, he saw an old tv, a bookcase filled with books, a desk with books on it, a messy bed, a half opened wardrobe, and a chair with clothes on.
Kate walked over to her bead and quickly made it.
"Here, you can sit here."
Silas nodded and walked over and sat down.
Kate sat down beside him.
Silas felt that she might have something on her mind.
"Do you have something on your mind?"
Kate nodded.
"I didn't know about… your parents."
Silas nodded.
"I never told you."
"It really isn't a big deal for me."
Kate nodded.
"I also want to apologize for my sister… if she put you in a hard position."
Silas smiled.
"It's fine, it just shows she cares."
Kate nodded.
Just then a knock was heard in the door.
Sophie looked in.
"Alright, I've talked with you guardian, it's fine."
Silas nodded.
Then he looked down at his phone.
"It's getting late, I should probably head home."
Kate was reluctant.
"Why don't you stay a while longer?"
Silas smiled.
"Maybe another day when we have made plans, but I really have some things to do this afternoon."
Kate nodded.
"I will pick you up in the morning."
Kate stood up and smiled.
"Alright. Let me lead you out."
Silas nodded.
They walked downstairs, and Silas said goodbye to Sophie then goodbye to Kate as he walked out.
"See you in the morning."
Kate watched as Silas walked over to his car, got in and sped away.
CHAPTER END.
