"Alright, Buneary, let's battle! Piplup, I'm counting on you!"

Dawn couldn't contain her excitement any longer. Seeing the adorable Pokémon in the clearing was the spark she needed. She sent out Piplup, her heart set on making this her very first successful capture in the Sinnoh region.

"Piplup~"

The blue penguin, still slightly distracted by the lingering taste of Brock's breakfast, waddled onto the field. It let out a small, puff-chested roar at the Buneary, wanting to wrap this up quickly and get back to its bowl.

However, the battlefield remained oddly silent. Buneary didn't even glance at Piplup. Her large, soulful eyes were locked onto Pikachu, her expression one of pure, unadulterated adoration.

"Pika?"

When Pikachu tilted his head in confusion, Buneary's face turned a shade of crimson that rivaled a Tamato Berry. She immediately curled her butter-colored fur over her face, shivering with a mixture of shyness and delight.

"Exactly as I thought," Ash muttered, scratching his head. "Pikachu's 'Natural Charm' is more effective than a Master Ball."

"Waaah!!!"

Brock suddenly erupted into a waterfall of dramatic tears, startling everyone. "Even Pikachu is getting romantic attention! Where is my big sister? Where is my destiny?!"

"Brock, please," Ash groaned, patting his friend's shoulder. "You're envying a yellow mouse. Have some dignity."

"But is that even allowed?" Dawn asked, her brow furrowed. "I mean, they're completely different species. Can a rabbit really fall for a mouse?"

"Love knows no boundaries!" Brock shouted, striking a dramatic pose. "To cross the lines of biology for the sake of the heart... it's beautiful! It's poetic!"

Ash ignored the theatrics and focused on the Buneary. He knew this rabbit wasn't just a pretty face; her movements were fluid, and her level was clearly higher than Piplup's. If Dawn tried to win through brute force, she was in for a rude awakening.

"Piplup, use Peck!"

Piplup's beak glowed with white energy as it lunged. Buneary, seeing Pikachu watching, decided it was time to show off. She winked in the mouse's direction, then launched a lightning-fast Jump Kick. The impact sent Piplup sprawling across the grass.

"Bubble Beam, now!" Dawn countered.

Piplup unleashed a torrent of sapphire bubbles. Buneary didn't dodge; she inhaled and released an Ice Beam that froze the bubbles mid-air, turning the attack into a glittering, useless sculpture. The freezing energy continued forward, pinning Piplup's feet to the ground in a block of ice.

"Oh no! Piplup!" Dawn cried.

Buneary seized the moment. She used Bounce, soaring into the air before descending with her ears curled into tight, powerful coils. She slammed a Dizzy Punch into the immobile penguin. The ice shattered, but Piplup stood up swaying, its eyes glazed over and spinning.

"It's confused," Brock noted. "That Dizzy Punch scrambled its senses."

"Recall it, Dawn," Ash suggested. "In this state, Piplup will only hurt itself. Use the Poké Ball to reset its condition."

Dawn reluctantly pulled Piplup back, her shoulders slumping. "I lost again. I'm never going to catch my first Pokémon at this rate."

"Who says you have to use force?" Ash said, a mischievous glint in his eye. He pointed toward Pikachu. "Sometimes, the best strategy isn't a move—it's an attraction."

Dawn looked at Pikachu, then at the Buneary who was currently performing a victory dance while blowing kisses at the yellow mouse. A slow, 'little devil' smile spread across Dawn's face. She walked over to Pikachu and began whispering a plan.

"Ash, are you really going to let her use Pikachu as bait?" Brock asked, watching as a reluctant Pikachu was led toward the blushing rabbit.

"A capture is a capture, Brock. My first Pokémon wasn't a battle either," Ash said, thinking of the "baby Rayquaza" (Butterfree) he had befriended in Viridian Forest.

Dawn stood before Buneary, presenting Pikachu like a grand prize. "Look, Buneary! This is Pikachu. He's very brave, very strong... and he's going to be traveling with me. If you want to be with him every single day, all you have to do is join the team."

"Mimi!" Buneary's ears stood straight up. She looked at Pikachu, who gave a shy, awkward wave. The promise of constant proximity was too much to resist.

She hopped forward, her eyes sparkling. Dawn held out a Poké Ball, and Buneary didn't even wait for a struggle. She tapped the button herself, disappearing into the red light. The ball shook once, purely for form, and clicked.

"I caught a Buneary!" Dawn shouted, hoisting the ball toward the sky.

"Pikapi..." Pikachu sighed, realizing his quiet life was officially over.
