Chapter 17 - He Didn't Like It

Aurora didn't answer him.

She kept her gaze locked on his shoes, his shadow casting over her.

Her body was cold and numb, her heart empty. She knew she was tickling the whiskers of a lion by refusing to respond to him, but Aurora was tired. So exhausted, she just wanted to sleep.

It would be nice if she could keep sleeping forever and not speak to anybody.

The hunger and pain she constantly felt would disappear, too.

Something warm was felt on her face.

Aurora belatedly realized it was her tears trickling down her face. She raised a shaking hand to erase it when a long and calloused finger wiped it.

"Do you love crying that much?"

A pair of silver eyes was looking intently into hers.

She blinked, not understanding his words.

"Crying won't solve anything. Trust me."

He seemed to believe in his own words, a conviction trusted and proven through his younger years.

Despite his harsh rebuke of her crying, his touch was gentle.
