Chapter 36 - I stay busy

Ethan:

The car stopped in front of Ethan's office building.

A tall glass tower that overlooked most of the city. Inside, everything was already busy.

People moved quickly through the lobby, assistants carrying files and tablets, security guards greeting him as he walked in.

"Good morning, sir."

Ethan gave a short nod and walked straight to the elevator.

Work.

That was the easiest place for him to hide his thoughts.

Hours passed quickly.

Meetings.

Documents.

Contracts.

Most of the morning was spent discussing a large land purchase on the outskirts of the city. The project was important — a private development deal that required multiple approvals and negotiations.

Ethan sat at the long conference table, listening while one of his managers explained the details.

"The seller wants a higher price for the southern section of the land," the man said nervously.

Ethan looked at the map on the table.

"Buy it."

The room went quiet.

"But sir, the price—"

"I said buy it," Ethan repeated calmly.

No one argued after that.

When the meeting ended, Kai followed him back to his office.

"You've been working nonstop since morning," Kai said.

Ethan loosened the collar of his shirt slightly.

"I prefer work over unnecessary conversations."

Kai knew exactly what he meant.

But before he could reply, another manager entered the office quickly.

"Sir… there's a situation you need to see."

Ethan looked up.

"What kind of situation?"

The manager hesitated slightly before placing a file on the desk.

"It's related to one of the night clubs you own."

Ethan opened the file slowly.

Inside was a complaint report.

"A customer filed a formal complaint last night," the manager explained carefully.

Ethan skimmed the document.

The complaint came from a young woman who had booked a private VIP service in one of the exclusive clubs Ethan owned.

The problem wasn't illegal activity — the club operated within strict internal rules.

But according to the report, she was angry because the staff member assigned to her couldn't stay with her the entire time she requested.

The manager cleared his throat awkwardly.

"She's demanding compensation and threatening to create trouble for the business."

Ethan closed the file calmly.

"This is what you interrupted my work for?"

The manager looked nervous.

"She's claiming poor service and saying the club misled her."

Kai crossed his arms.

"That's ridiculous. The rules are clear."

Ethan leaned back slightly in his chair, his expression unreadable.

"Did the employee break any rules?"

"No, sir," the manager replied immediately. "He followed the schedule and left when his shift ended."

"Then there's no problem."

The manager hesitated.

"She's… very persistent. She wants to speak directly to the owner."

Ethan's gaze turned colder.

"I don't meet customers over service complaints."

Kai smirked slightly.

"That would be a very long line."

Ethan stood up from his chair.

"Offer her a refund and remove her membership."

The manager blinked.

"Sir?"

"If she's unhappy, she doesn't need to come back."

The answer was simple.

Clean.

The manager nodded quickly.

"Understood."

As he left the office, Kai looked at Ethan.

"You handled that fast."

Ethan picked up another document from his desk.

"I don't waste time on people who want attention."

Kai studied him for a moment.

"You're working harder than usual today."

Ethan didn't look up.

"…Just making sure I stay busy."

Kai already knew why.

Because if Ethan stopped working for even a moment—

His thoughts would go back to one person.

Yuna.
