The examination room is clean and bright, nothing like the dim storage-room-turned-infirmary back at Oceania where Doc Harles would see to pack injuries with whatever supplies were left over after the ranked wolves had taken first pick.
This room smells of antiseptic and something floral ... lavender, maybe, and the examination table has actual padding.
Dr. Philipia closes the door and settles onto a stool across from me, her mini screen device resting on her knee. She types something and turns the screen so I can read it.
"High Alpha Sucre has requested a full health evaluation. Before we begin, is there anything you would like me to know? Anything you would like to keep between us?"
I stare at that last line for a moment.
Between us?
I have never been asked that before. Not by a doctor.
I shake my head and she stares at my eyes for a couple of seconds before typing something else.
"Is High Alpha Sucre truly still alive?"
