Silence is the only sound for the remainder of the ride to the resident area, leaving the tinted window beside me as my only source of entertainment.
I never imagined it would be so far apart from the main packhouse.
We pass dozens of streets crowded with smiling strangers, all waving and craning their necks. Some cheer and jog alongside the carriage as we pass, phones raised, trying to catch a glimpse of us before we roll away.
As we get closer to the compound, the houses grow larger, finer, and the streets are no longer riddled with the homeless shuffling about. I spot the glint of glass and steel before the whole daunting complex comes into view. It's huge. Even with its clean lines and cold modern exterior, it's breathtaking. Manicured lawns and vibrant gardens filled with brightly colored flowers I didn't even know existed surround the perimeter walls, softening the intimidating structure.
