Chapter 12 - THE LATE NIGHT CONVERSATION

Maya's POV

Maya's bed felt like it was made of thorns.

She had been lying there for hours, staring at the ceiling, her brain refusing to shut off. Derek stealing supplies. The false witness. Kaden's paranoia spreading through the kingdom like poison. And the Territory War coming in two weeks.

Two weeks to find the traitor. Two weeks to fix everything breaking apart.

She gave up on sleep around midnight.

The halls of the Northern Kingdom were quiet and dark as she walked. Most people were sleeping. The guards nodded at her as she passed. She was the strategist now. The woman Kaden trusted. She could go anywhere.

The war room was lit by a single lamp. Maps covered every wall. Tactical charts. Enemy positions. Resource calculations. And in the middle of all of it sat Kaden, looking like he hadn't slept in days.

He didn't look up when she entered.

"You're thinking about the Territory War," Maya said.
