The crimson eyes remained fixed on Dean.
The air inside the bunker became almost impossible to breathe.
The blue light of the Covenant Blade pushed back against the darkness pouring from the First Gate.
Two ancient powers.
One chamber.
One Keeper.
Dean took a slow breath.
Then, without looking away from the Gate, he spoke.
"Ben."
"Yeah?"
"If this goes sideways..."
Ben smirked.
"...when has it ever gone straight?"
Dean couldn't help but grin.
"Fair point."
The silhouette stepped closer.
Each movement sent shockwaves through the bunker.
Yet it still remained hidden within the shadows.
Almost as if reality itself refused to reveal its true form.
Kaelor immediately knelt.
Not in submission.
In mourning.
"Forgive us..."
Dean looked at him.
"Who is that?"
Kaelor answered without lifting his head.
"His true name has been erased."
Silence.
"We called him..."
He hesitated.
"...The Nameless."
Even Asterion tightened his grip on his celestial sword.
Malach slowly stepped beside Dean.
"Do not listen to him."
Dean frowned.
"Why?"
Malach looked into the abyss.
"Because he doesn't attack your body."
A pause.
"He attacks your will."
The Nameless spoke again.
Its voice echoed directly inside every mind in the bunker.
"Keeper..."
Dean closed his eyes for a brief moment.
Then sighed.
"You know..."
He looked toward the darkness.
"...I'm seriously getting tired of that nickname."
Ben laughed.
Even Asterion allowed the corner of his mouth to lift.
For the first time...
The Nameless paused.
As though it had never expected humor.
Dean took one confident step forward.
The Covenant Blade blazed brighter.
"If you've got something to say..."
He pointed the glowing sword toward the abyss.
"...say it."
Silence.
Then—
The darkness exploded.
Hundreds of black chains shot from the Gate like living serpents.
Asterion charged first.
His celestial blade carved through the nearest chains, sending sparks of white fire across the chamber.
Malach followed, forming glowing sigils in the air.
Walls of blue light appeared around the remaining celestial chains.
Ben opened fire with salt rounds.
The blasts did little damage...
But they slowed the advancing darkness.
Dean ran straight toward the Gate.
The Covenant Blade cut through shadow after shadow.
Each strike illuminated the chamber.
The Nameless remained motionless.
Watching.
Waiting.
Dean finally reached the edge of the abyss.
The creature looked down at him.
For the first time...
Its face became visible.
Dean froze.
It had no face.
Only darkness.
Two crimson eyes floating within an endless void.
The Nameless tilted its head.
"You are afraid."
Dean answered immediately.
"Yeah."
The creature seemed surprised.
Dean smiled.
"Only idiots aren't."
He tightened his grip on the Blade.
"The difference is..."
Blue light erupted around him.
"...I don't let fear drive."
With a roar, Dean plunged the Covenant Blade into the stone at the edge of the Gate.
Ancient runes ignited across the entire chamber.
The six remaining celestial chains burst into brilliant blue light.
The Nameless stepped backward.
For the first time...
It retreated.
A massive wave of energy exploded outward.
The bunker shook violently.
Books flew from shelves.
Lights burst.
The Gate began to close.
Slowly.
Painfully.
The Nameless let out a roar that shook the foundation of the bunker.
"THIS IS NOT YOUR DESTINY!"
Dean pulled the Blade free.
He stood at the edge of the abyss.
Bruised.
Exhausted.
But unbroken.
He looked directly into the crimson eyes.
"Maybe."
He smiled.
A true Winchester smile.
"But it's my choice."
The Gate sealed another few feet.
The Nameless disappeared beneath the darkness.
Its final words echoed through the chamber.
"The Seventh Chain has already been marked..."
Silence.
The crimson glow vanished.
The bunker stopped shaking.
The six chains hung motionless once again.
Everyone stood in stunned silence.
Ben finally exhaled.
"...Please..."
He leaned against a wall.
"...tell me we won."
Kaelor slowly looked toward the final remaining chain.
Unlike the others...
Its runes no longer glowed blue.
A thin crimson crack spread across its surface.
His expression fell.
"...No."
Dean followed his gaze.
The Seventh Chain had changed.
It hadn't broken.
Not yet.
But something had touched it.
Something had left a mark that should have been impossible.
Asterion whispered, almost to himself:
"The seal has been corrupted..."
Far away...
Beyond Heaven...
Beyond Hell...
Beyond even the First Gate...
A pair of crimson eyes opened once more.
And somewhere, a voice whispered a single word.
"Soon."
